This was one of the best experiences of my life. When the trailers first started coming out, my bf said that he wanted to absolutely see this movie. When it finally was released, I purchased us tickets to the IMAX in San Antonio. AND it was worth it. If you go see this movie, take the time and buy IMAX tickets. I wouldnt have wanted to see it any other way. It was definitely worth the drive for us. For about 2-3 hours afterwards all we could say was WOW...

This was an excellent movie, all around from the soundtrack, plot/story-line, special effects, design, etc...
At first I found myself rooting for the military presense and then about half-way through I switched sides right along with "Jakesully."
The movie reminded me of Dances with Wolves, but set way in the future. Wes Studi might have something to do with that.
The 3D effects were amazing--I expect more and more action/animated movies to follow this trend.

There was no 3-d scene where you feel something is coming on you. Go for normal version and save money. This is definitely not a kids movie. Could have been done using actual people with make-up instead of all animation. Its pure sci-fi movie with all animation effects.

3D was great fun visually. Lots of action. Mostly a fun, enjoyable movie. Plot was somewhat predictible with tension between the Corporate/Computerized machine-like species (that's us) vs. the Live-In-Harmony with Nature species (that's them). Where will the hero's loyalty lie? Will he be a hero, or anti-hero?

This movie has the most incredible computer generation and special effects of any film created in history. However, its incredible graphic display does not take away from the storyline which is epic and breathtaking. Occasionally it can feel overdone, but after all, this is a James Cameron movie and it's worth it. Sam Worthington's performance is excellent. The only reason I would not give this movie a 5 is simply that the core story itself is very similar to others done previously. However, I would emphasize that no one has EVER done that basic plotline like this.

The movie as a whole is amazing. The 3D immersed you in the alien world. The plant life, insects, animals were really well done. The story is not bad (been done before) but still entertaining. My one gripe is the aliens being too American Indian in nature. Bows and arrows, riding horses, whooping and war cries, painted faces etc. This detracted me from feeling like i'm in an alien world. I wish they'd remove that obvious reference. Made different weapons, maybe using their tails. Rode the wild cats instead of horses etc. Great movie to me except for that one annoyance.

I give the movie and "A" for special effects and an "F" for plot, storyline and characters. Also numerous plot holes exist such as why (spoiler alert) the aliens chose to take on the main character as one of their own even though he does not speak their language and says he is a marine. Then they are surprised when he "betrays" them.
Also was annoyed with Cameron's numerous anti-American messages in the movie. There are direct references to the war on terrorism and the U.S. treatment of American Indians. While there are a valid arguments to be made about these issues, Cameron's over simplification and heavy handed moralizing comes across and patronizing and hypocritical. Hollywood needs to stay out of politics.

While the story line is not new (Dances With Wolves in space), the 3D effects are excellent. I am old enough to remember the 3D movies from the 50s and this is far superior in terms of color rendention and image quality. I felt like the 3D enhanced the movie and added visual depth unlike the 50s movies which used the technology to showcase the 3D special effects. Overall a very good movie; I highly recommend it.

An animator told me that Avatar had to be seen in 3-D. True. The visuals are jaw dropping and amazing. They bring you into a new world.
Acting range? Limited. Humor? Forgettable. Story line? A little too close to Princess Mononoke..but if you come away worrying about those things instead of the experience, you may have difficulty letting go.
This film will sell thousands of 3-D television sets.

Simply put, "AVATAR" is the BEST movie I have ever seen in my 47 years. I saw it the first (of two times) time in Imax 3D and was blown away by this visual feast! I really had only a small idea of what the storyline was actually about, so I entered the movie with a very open mind.
I was in awe of the differing aspects and special effects. As a fan of Spiderman, The Matrix, World of Warcraft, Dances With Wolves, and the Mech Warrior computer games, I was in sensory overload Heaven!
There is something for everyone in this epic. I have seen it twice now, also in 3D, but not Imax. I really hope it will be released to DVD in 3D format.
James Cameron has raised the bar HIGH for anything that follows!

Overall this was a very good movie. My daughter (14) and son (9) wanted to go. I'd say for the 9 year old, he commented that he liked the movie a lot, but he did also comment that there were a lot of bad words and was wondering why they had to have those in movies :) The 14 year old liked it to and was glad she went.
There are several flavors, normal, imax 3d, digital 3d and real 3 d (or something like that), based on digging around, we selected the 'real' one and we enjoyed it.

I was a bit skeptical on this movie (figured it was all just hype) but in the end, the storyline was decent enough to hold my attention and the special effects blew me away. If you're going to watch it, do it right and watch it in the theater and def in 3D!

This movie was way more than I was expecting. The writing was good and the acting was too. Even though it was a long movie it didn't seem like it. The ending was predictable and the 3D wasn't as good as what you get at Disney World or IMAX. The cost was also $13 which is a bit much. Most likely due to the glasses. Overall a great movie and very entertaining. Not good for kids though.

While I understand that some people said the 3D made them a bit dizzy, if you pulled your glasses down a little and back up you were fine. Acting and special effects were so well done that you forgot it wasn't real. I held on to my 3D glasses because I want to buy the 3D version on video. Great interpretation of a basic good vs. evil/greed story line with enough action to satisfy the younger set and enough moral fiber for the family. I give it a FAB9 (out of 10)
