Simply put, "AVATAR" is the BEST movie I have ever seen in my 47 years. I saw it the first (of two times) time in Imax 3D and was blown away by this visual feast! I really had only a small idea of what the storyline was actually about, so I entered the movie with a very open mind.
I was in awe of the differing aspects and special effects. As a fan of Spiderman, The Matrix, World of Warcraft, Dances With Wolves, and the Mech Warrior computer games, I was in sensory overload Heaven!
There is something for everyone in this epic. I have seen it twice now, also in 3D, but not Imax. I really hope it will be released to DVD in 3D format.
James Cameron has raised the bar HIGH for anything that follows!
I absolutely loved this movie! I don't read reviews ahead of time or buy into the hype surrounding Heath Ledger's death as the reason for the massive draws for the opening ticket sales.
That said, Ledger NAILED the part of The Joker like nothing I ever expected. He was brilliant in his depiction of this crazed madman we love to hate! It was rather poignant to see this as his "swan song", and there will never be another portrayal of The Joker as Ledger has managed to pull off. The bar has been set extremely high for whoever may follow in this role.
But The Joker is not the only reason I loved this movie. I had no idea that there would be two villains in this great summer flick! "Two Face" was excellent, and a far cry from Tommy Lee Jone's comical venture in the earlier incarnation of the same. The effects were just awesome.
Great supporting roles by Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman and Maggie Gyllenhaal round out this adventure.
And last but definitely not least, we can't forget our Caped Crusader ... Batman ... as well played as ever by Bale. The part seems to be made for him, or vice - versa! I really enjoy the darker tone of the Batman franchise, and hope that future versions of ALL the comics we see come to the big screen follow suit!
Enjoy yourself for the summer thrill ride that is "The Dark Knight"!
Saw this on opening night, after much anticipation watching the previews the last few weeks. What a huge disappointment. My wife begrudgingly went along with me. If it hadn't been for her with me also, I probably would have walked out. Cheesy "horror" effects just to gain the "R" rating I guess. I am not much of a Shyamalan follower, and certainly after this, not a fan. It was very slow, not suspenseful even when it was SUPPOSED to be suspenseful. Non-ingenuous deaths; too many suicide-by-gun ... it got tiresome. Shyamalan's first and best shot at an "R" rated movie failed miserably in my view. I won't even rent this bomb on DVD when it comes out. Too bad. I had such high hopes for this, too.
I saw this last night at the midnight showing at the local AMC 24. What a great movie ... I will see it again to be sure. I know nothing at all about Ironman in its comic book form, (not a fanboy), so I didnt have to worry about tearing it apart for accuracy like I did Spiderman (which I grew up on and LOVED all of them!). This movie was very good and Robert Downey Jr. made his mark. The effects were fantastic. As computer graphics become more advanced, movies from comics are just awesome. You will really enjoy yourself on this ride, "Ironman" ... have fun, sit back ... and ENJOY!
