I went with my daughter & some friends & we all thoroughly enjoyed the experience & the movie was very good. I've read other cricisms of the movie & didn't experience those faults but can see their points-of-view upon reflection. But this is a must see movie & I look forward to more like it. There is nothing that compares to this fantastic film. The characters are very believable and moving. The two main Characters in the movie do a wonderful job. The Female Avatar that Jake is inspired by in the movie deserves a Oscar award. When she speaks about her people or the creatures, you began to feel and see what she experiences. If this movie came out during E.T. and there was no True 3D technology; this Film still would have came out on top! There is no Si-Fi- Adventure movie that can compare to this title. Make sure you are well rested and have plenty of snacks.. this is a long movie, but once you get sucked into this story (which does not take long) the time goes by and you wish there was more! Well Done!

Story wise, if you've seen Dances With Wolves then, to some extent, you've seen this movie once already. Generally it has story elements from that movie that will make it feel very familiar to you if you've seen it before.
The technology in this film was mind blowing, the 3D really made the experience all the more enthralling.
The final verdict is unless you have a boat load of cash to convert your home theater to 3D later this year get out and go see it with your family in 3D now. It's worth the expense as you'll have things to talk about regarding the movie for sometime after it.

I thought Polar Express Imax was unbeatable. Avatar 3D was right there without "being in your face" type 3D. Like a fist coming at you, etc. The story line no different than the Star Wars line with a big BUT! This movie had a "save the planet" secondary story. I applaud Cameron for bringing this in multiple levels. Can't wait for more like it! Only down side...a bit long

I really did enjoy the movie - even at my age - but I was a bit disappointed in the 3D. I remember 3D at DisneyWorld and 3D in IMAX. This 3D didn't even compare. I remember objects coming out to you in the former 3D. This was just ok. In fact I tried to take the glasses off, but , of course, couldn't watch it without because it was fuzzy. A friend of mine said she actually got sick because the 3D was so realistic. I didn't see it that way.

Up - The animation is fabulous. The Avatar/Driver premise is brilliant. The world of the Na'vi is spectacularly created. The subtle use of 3D allowed you to feel that you were there. The acting was exactly right for the film. (It would have been hammy in almost any other type film.)
Down - you knew the story from the beginning because you've seen it a million times. The characters were predictable and some, particularly the military, were too one-dimensional. It became tiresome to see over and over again about just how lousy almost all humans are while other species are ideal.
The positives here are FAR greater and the whole is a very good movie.

Amazing movie. I'm not one for suspended reality movies, but this movie tied in reality with fantasy better than any I've ever seen. There were so many parallels between the current global issues and what was going on in the movie. If you follow the story, you can make the connections yourself. The 3D is not your father's 3D. My 17-year old son and I saw the 3D version last night and thought it was terrifically entertaining. It immersed us into how the world can look to people trying to survive as others attempt to change their way of life. This is reminiscent to what happened to the Native Americans in North America when they had what "we" wanted. It is definitely worth seeing this moviw!

At least I found out what half a billion dollars worth of cheese looks like. Three stars only because of the technical accomplishment, but zero stars for doing anything with all that technique. The plot seemed to have been swiped from Steven Seagal's reject scripts pile. The only aspect of the movie that was not at least a thousand times too much was the subtlety. The story had some possibilities, but all of them were lost in the obvious. What is the point of the 3D? For an enchanted forest milieu, normal vision worked pretty well for Pan's Labyrinth. See only to be familiar with a cultural landmark.

AVATAR was by far one of the best movies I have ever seen, absolutely amazing. There were no slow moments and the story was extremely good. This was my first 3D movie ever and I am so glad I choose it. I was especially happy with the fact that the boy got his girl and they lived happily ever after.

A fairly long movie with plenty of action and a good plot that keeps you awake. The 3D effect was cool but I think it wouldnt make much of a difference watching it without the 3D. The colors were very vibrant in the world of Pandora and there are no R-rated scenes or nudity so it's perfect for the kids as well. Besides action, there were humorous moments as well as a couple of sad moments. Overall a good movie, worth watching at a theater!

I don't get all of the fuss around this movie. Sure, some of the effects are pretty neat, but it is definitely not worth anyone's time or money.

I resisted seeing this movie for a while and I shouldn't have.
It is an awesome movie. The 3D took a little time to adjust and get use too but was well worth the extra price of admission.
For me the story was original, well written and the special effects the new standard by which other movies will be judged.
I don't buy DVD's, except in the rare occasion that I truly enjoy a movie and this will defiantely be one to get.
If you haven't already seen it, GO... You wont be disappointed.
