My wife isn't the type to enjoy science fiction films. Usually she just puts up with them for me but this one she actually enjoyed. Now myself as a sci-fi fan I can tell you I really enjoyed it and I can say I enjoyed it far more than Avatar. With Avatar I was just Ooing and Ahing the whole time but the story in Tron was really something with enough originality along with beautiful cinematography to make it a great ride.
Bottom Line: This is a great movie that takes the original and uses it as a launchpad to explode into something amazing. The 3D is done so subtly and tastefully it doesn't at all feel like a gimmick here. There's even a "warning" at the beginning of the film letting you know there's some parts of the film that are done in 2D on purpose, classy stuff.
Side Not: Fans of The Big Lebowski will enjoy the few nods that are present from Flynn.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Story wise, if you've seen Dances With Wolves then, to some extent, you've seen this movie once already. Generally it has story elements from that movie that will make it feel very familiar to you if you've seen it before.
The technology in this film was mind blowing, the 3D really made the experience all the more enthralling.
The final verdict is unless you have a boat load of cash to convert your home theater to 3D later this year get out and go see it with your family in 3D now. It's worth the expense as you'll have things to talk about regarding the movie for sometime after it.
