So it had great special effects. The story was completely predictable with no suspense whatsoever. The avatars become real characters to you - but so did the characters in Shrek. Honestly, I was looking at my watch. It was very beautiful but this movie proves that hype works.

The 3D and film wizardry makes this a movie worth seeing. The message is also admirable. However it is also a little simplistic and nintendo-ish. I guess the current generation of gamers will feel at home with that aspect. It was an entertaining movie but certainly not the best.

While the movie was visually striking, there are serious holes in the plot.
The story takes place 140 years in the future, and man has figured a way to create these huge beings by combining the DNA of both species, and then transfer the consciousness of a human into this being. Pretty heady stuff. At the same time, man has not come up with a less intrusive way to mine "unobtainium" than via scorched earth? We have to level this forest and displace all these different species to get to this mineral? C'mon, man!!
And this does not even get into the problems of this being a blatant rip off of 1992's FernGully: The Last Rainforest. (Watch the trailer on IMDB after you see Avatar.) Or Dances With Wolves, or Pochahantas.

I really didn't think I would care about seeing a movie about blue people - not sure why ... thought it was not my thing. This and the rumor that the story is not that compelling left me waiting to see this in week 4 - in still a crowded theater. I could not have been more surprised at how much I enjoyed this movie - and the story is great / classic storytelling in a new world ... Though don't take kids under 12... it is more dialogue driven than it appears and think many of the younger kids were bored.

3D certainly has come a long way since the original "13 ghosts" back in the early sixties, but unfortunately in this case the plot did not match the technology in its grandeur. That's ok - the effecfts were well worth the price of admission, but the story line left me feeling a bit under-whelmed. Certainly no Oscars for th writing in this one !

OUTSTANDING. I actually found myself getting vertigo as the characters climbed into the floating islands. The biright colors, sounds, plot, drama and suspense were fabulous. I only wish I could experience this movie again and again in the theater as a smaller screen will never do it full justice. A great movie.

A word of caution to those prone to motion sickness, the 3D/Imax version of the film left me queasy and sick to my stomach due to the fast action and movement of the film. It went away when I closed my eyes, which is not a great way to see a film. I will need to see Avatar without the 3D/Imax effects to determine if I like the film.

I loved the forest that was created for this tribe. I would love to be able to visit a place like that.. I am not sure if the writer was trying to make a comment on how some "miners" go about getting their "goods" but it seemed pretty "to the point" and sad that this does take place in our world.. and it was shown on another world. the romance was a nice touch. This fit every family member, action, romance, beautiful scenery, science fiction.

James Cameron has done it again in creating this groundbreaking CG/Live action film. The story line was very predictable, although the cinematography helps to distract from that for the most part. Our 8 year old did not want to see this film because it is not "his Avatar (the Japanese Anime)", once in the theater and the movie started he was totally captivated! Avatar as a movie was obviously a major breakthrough in 3D technology, and computer animation. The story line is well done as well. That being said it has some typical Hollywood flaws. Its filled with so-Cal new-age religion & was quite obviously written from the perspective of a liberal watching the war in Iraq during the George Bush Administration (i.e. all of the anti-war rhetoric before the "Corporation" makes their attack). It was an obvious show of disdain for the American military expressed through a vision of the future. Many backwards messages in this movie (as is typical these days). Obviously a sequel is in the works. Does there really need to be a warning for "some smoking"?

The movie was a great visual experience. The 3D effects were awesome. I really enjoyed the overall experience, except for the plot. The writer of this movie must have been watching "Dances with Wolves" when he/she wrote the movie. Nonetheless, the $10 I spent on the movie was well worth it.

My wife and I went out to catch a movie and were interested if Avatar in 3D lived up to the Hype. All I can say is we were immeresed into the movie from start to finish. When the movie was finished, the theater applauded and we listened to viewers nearby recapping the movie. The 3D technology was seemless and not forced. You really could feel like you were part of the action. It was amazing!!! Not to mention, a thoughtful message.

As everybody seems to say, the plot is somewhat predictable, but it still very much holds your attention, and I found myself wishing that the movie would continue. I really loved the experience.

This movie left me in awe in all aspects. I saw it twice and would see it again. It left me sad since it reminded me so much of the Native Americans and how our Mother Earth used to be. So much to learn in this movie and apply. A must see!!!!
