Clicked in to purchase tickets from the official IMAX website. Drove an hour to the theater only to find that I had been sold standard 3D tickets and was deeply disappointed. I had already seen this version of the film, which was fantastic and would recommend to all that it must be experienced in the theater in order to get the full effect. However, the overall system MovieTickets.com has in place coming from the IMAX website must be improved. Frankly, one wouldn't expect to be sold Samsung when they log in to the Sony website. I am very disappointed in MovieTickets.com for their lack of thorough quality assurance and will likely look for alternatives to purchasing tickets here in the future.

Return of the Jedi is the best movie I ever saw in the theatre. The cutting edge special FX, the hype, the anticipation, the story lines- made it the most submersive, rich fictional movie enviroment ever in relation to its time.
This is the best I have seen since then. It not only makes a completely fabricated enviroment and characters, but makes them so real that 15 minutes into the movie your mind no longer challenges the legitamacy of any of it.
There are no forced 3D scenes like in lesser 3D movies.
Go see it NOW because the home system necessary to enjoy this fully may not be out for 20 more years.

I know I am by far in the minority in my opinion about this movie - but here goes - - I found the 3-D annoying and not only was it distracting, but not appreciably any better than it was in the 1950s when I also donned 3D glasses. The story line was okay, but not remarkable. And - there was way too much violence!

When I saw Avatar 3D, I was really nervous about it, since I have had a fear of 3D movies ever since I was a little girl. The second I saw the tiniest of details popping out at me subtlety from the screen, I was hooked. The environment surrounded me, and I felt like I was actually on Pandora, experiencing everything as it happened on the screen. This just enhanced the beautiful story, and I wanted to see more of this exquisite world, even as the credits rolled. I had great fun seeing this film, and also explaining all of the different features of Pandora and the Na'Vi to my grandmother, who was also present at the time. This movie was a wonderful experience, and I would gladly go to it again and again.

I watched the movie way after it was started, so had time to listen for comments. Many people didn't like it and said as if the subject line is not interesting. So I wasn't expecting much when I went to watch it last night. But it so topped my expectations. It was beautiful, inspiring. Every detail of the movie was so well thought that you really felt as if Pandorra, that planet, exists. I really recommend it to see. It's yet another achievement of the cinematography, and it's just getting better and better. Also the 3D was an amazing asset. Enjoy whoever hasn't seen it yet, though, as was said on the Golden Globe awards, you are probably the only one who hasn't :)

I can't overemphasize how visually beautiful and interesting this film is. But as they say in the theater, you leave humming the scenery. With an original storyline, this film would be fabulous. But with a rehash of Pocahantas, Dancing with Wolves, etc., Cameron missed a major opportunity.
If you can see it in the theater in 3D, go. Otherwise, it's a toss-up.

I do not usually get into the Sci Fi type of films but I must say that the special effects in this movie took my breath away. I found myself feeling as though I was experiencing it and not just watching. I do not agree with some reveiws that said the story was bad. It is a story as old as history and should be told over and over again.

I saw this in a Real 3D Theater which is a MUST. This is the most visually stunning movie you will watch. James Cameron and his team have pulled out all the technical stops. If you are familiar with his work you will know the story is always secondary to the technical backdrop of the picture you are watching. What makes this 2hr and 40min simple story bearable is the living environment that surrounds you. This drives this movie more than anything else. James Cameron delivers a modern technical epic flawlessly. I hope this is the beginning of a new age in cinema. It will be interesting to see how Peter Jackson, George Lucas or the Wachowski brothers respond to this new challenge.

I am not usually a science fiction person, but went to have the experience. I appreciated the message. The war scene seemed a little to violent and loud for my taste. I would recommend getting a seat toward teh back to improve the 3D effects - we were seated to close to the front.

The technology is a dazzling achievement; mostly one can't tell where real action ends and animation begins. However, at the heart of any good movie is a good story, and this one is formulaic and predictable. For an unusual visual experience, I expected a more creative story line. The other major flaw is the running time: close to 2 hours 40 minutes; deft editing could have chopped 30 minutes. Remember the 1977 Star Wars? Two hours and one minute and fabulous. If you're simply looking for a visually transporting experience with action, go see Avatar.

Bottom (top) line: You have to see this movie. In theaters. Even if you might not like it. Because no other screen will do it justice, and you can't catch it later.
This movie is pretty much like everyone else has describe: amazing visuals, overdone plot. If you've seen Pocahontas, you know what's going to happen in Avatar.
But that doesn't matter. The reason you see this movie isn't because of the plot. While watching, you don't even care that it's unoriginal. What truly matters are the visuals. I'd disagree with one of the posters below who suggested that the 3D was not necessary. It is definitely subtle, but that's what's amazing. Everything looks more real, but you don't even realize why. That's artistry.

I loved this movie! I am not a sci fi fan at all but was very pleasantly suprised. It was so much more than a "kill the aliens" film. Although it is a lengthy movie it is by no means "long". The visual effects are awesome!

James Cameron has definitely outdone himself with his blockbuster release of Avatar. This movie has mind blowing special effects, a multi-dimensional and well developed plot, and an uncanny ability to share with its audience the subcutaneous connection the Avatar shares with the land. Cameron's creative imagination is truly genius. A big thanks to all the special effects designers and specialists who had the ability to take Cameron's ideas and make them into a reality. I'm not a sci-fi buff, so had no real desire to see the movie. Friend asked me to go with her, and was I ever glad I did! The visual effects were stunning. I found myself moving my head as I tried to look around trees, and almost batting away falling embers! Though the story has been told many times before (think Fern Gully), it held my interest and the theme is one that is quite timely.

Story is a little thin (and overdone) but the special effects are amazing. Plus, it is a fun movie to watch, especially on the big screen. 3D was nice, but not sure it is completely necessary.

Cons: This is a very long and drawn out movie. This could had been a lot better if it was only 2 hrs. 3 hours is rediculous. I definetly couldn't watch it again.
Pros:Excellent story line, 3D graghics are outstanding.The technology displayed through out the movie is amazing. I cannot wait til we reach this level of technology in real life. If you are a Gadget Geek.....you will love this movie.

I waited to see this, as I was hesitant that it was as good as everyone said it was. But last night I saw it in 3-D and loved it! The movie brought you to a place that seemed to real, so believable, that I was in awe the entire time. It keep my interest for such a long movie, and was sad to see it end! Hope there is a sequel.

Best movie I have seen in years!! 3D was fantastic! Completely worth every penny! I think IMAX experience would be even better. The language was a little more colorful that needed. I don't think it enhanced the movie in any way. Still, I would see it again and again. Will definately be buying this one on DVD!!

This is an amazing feast for the eyes told by a master story teller. The writing is not going to win any screenplay awards (that should go to the Cohen Brothers this year for A Serious Man), but like Spielberg, it's a great story told in amazing fashion. First off, the money is on the screen. The CGI is so believable, you must see this in a great theater (the 3D is also a great addition to the experience). You fall in love with the characters and Cameron creates a world that you wish you could just go live in and be a part of. Like I said, it's storytelling at its best. You must see this movie and you must see it in the theaters. This movie will loose a lot on DVD (I don't care how good your home entertainment system is). Enjoy.
