Took my grandson and his friend (13yr. old) to see Avatar. I enjoyed it as much if not more than they did. I thought the special effects were fabulous. I also enjoyed the story behind it. Happy to have gotten to see it. I certainly would give it a thumbs-up!

RealD 3D was crisper, cleaner with good sound. IMAX was blurry but had better sound. The visuals were breathtaking (What is James Cameron’s issue with Earth or human beings? In all his movies, Earth is either decimated by machines, just referenced by an earth crew visiting an alien world, or a piece of earth rises up and sinks a ship of humans?!) AVATAR’s underlying message of violently supplanting indigenous populations for personal gain is potent but not unique. The story is reminiscent of Pocahontas; but that to me is not the reason to see the movie. The epic qualities, scale and technical feats are worth seeing on the big screen in a theater. I’m sure some of that grandness will be lost at home even on the highest def TV.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

My wife and I were both bowled over by the quality of this movie -- characters, cgi and 3D. After a few establishment scenes, the action begins and simply does not let up until the ending credits.
Everyone has seen at least one variation on this particular plot, such as Dances With Wolves. Still, it was very well done.
We were both particularly impressed with the quality of the 3D effect. Nothing like the 3D from the 20th century. My only "complaint", and its a small one, is that I initially felt as though my eyes were crossing. Once my eyes learned how to adapt to it, no further difficulties.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Avatar in 3D is worth paying the price to watch it on the big screen. The effects and design are beautiful. The story is very cliche but fun and does not at all get in the way of the visual experience. Any symbolism or inner meaning beyond the obvious is mashed up and ambiguous. Feel good, have fun, have something to think about and discuss on the way home.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Initially, I didn't have any great desire to see this film. To me, an Avatar is a cartoon character on Yahoo Messenger that you create to represent yourself. My gosh, was I ever wrong. This film was FANTASTIC! The colours, special effects, and realism blew my mind. And they sure have come a long way with those 3D glasses too. I'm planning to see it again and get an even better seat by coming early. It sells out real quick. In addition, while most films today focus on bedroom behaviour and gory violence, this had everything in good taste. A definite A+ in my book.

This is one of the best movies that I have seen over the last few years. Despite it being a bit longer than usual, I just didn't want this movie to end! As I came back to my day-to-day reality after the movie, I realized that it is a pity that 'we humans still don't learn'! Without giving out any spoilers, I hope that this movie will make at least a small progress towards sustainability on earth.

I will use my wife's description she heard from someone else. "Dances With Wolves" In space. Good story line, great effects, see it in 3D, definitely worth it. I read someone else saw it in 3D 3 times and seat location matters. We sat on the edge of the row, and I could see effects, but they probably were better in the middle.

I would really give this movie 4 1/2 stars. It receives such a high rating mostly due to the 3D quality of the film and overall film production of the movie. I am generally a skeptic, but was happy to find myself believing in the story about blue people and flying monsters because it looked so good. My only complaint would be that some of the storyline was predictable.

We loved this movie so much that as a family, we've seen it 3 times. Until yesterday, I didn't realize that your seat in the theatre makes a difference when watching it in 3D. The previous viewings, we sat about 10 rows back, in the middle and found the 3D action scenes incredible. Yesterday, we were on the far side of the theatre and the movie vis\ually wasn't as stunning;; which didn't affect the whole movie and its story but I did notice the difference immediately.
If you have a choice, sit in the middle!!

The ability and imagination to create and immerse you in a complex, but credible fictitious future world was superlative. Technically I would rate it 5 stars+.
Better still the computer animated Avatars convinced you to immediately accept them as real people with emotions and attractive human traits, despite their out-of-world appearance. Again 5+ stars.
My only complaints are:
a) Too many dimly lit scenes - unfortunately common in such animations
b) Way overly-long and repetitive battle scene - although a technical tour-de-force, one quickly yearned to get back to the fascinating "people" aspect that was the strength of this Sc-Fi movie and leaves acres of room for further, even more subtle exploration
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Wow, I lost count how many times I said that during the movie. I didn't want it to end, I wanted to stay behind and live in the forest. The 3d effects linger with you after you leave. Best movie I ever saw! I am 48 and took my daughter who is 10 to see it. I thought it was just going to be another movie that I was going to force myself to watch for my daughters sake. Boy was I wrong!

I've seen Avatar twice...in the IMAX and in the 3D theaters. I'm not a huge sci-fi fan, but I was totally amazed by this movie. The 3D effects, the vivid colors, even the story line. WOW! AMAZING!
The first time I was so amazed that I had a hard time taking it all in. The second time I found myself going through the emotions - laughing, sitting on the edge of my seat, and even shedding a tear or two.
I hope that there's an Avatar 2 somewhere in the future...

It was visually stunning and worth seeing in 3D. The word of mouth on this movie really had me excited to see it. I thought it was a good movie but not the "BestEver" that I was hearing from others. I didn't really care for the story. I thought the story was stale, therefore the movie, while entertaining, just seemed too long. I went with my teenage kids and waiting for their opinions first. We all were on the same page.

I have viewed this movie twice! Once with my husband and then with my son, who was severely jealous of us seeing it without him!
I have to say that 3D is the way to go. The graphics are so good and I would not want to miss the action with the 3D involved.
I thought seeing it twice would be boring but it definitely was not! A must see for anyone who likes action, a good story line, and has hope.

Cameron's new world is a breakthrough in movie making and the journey through it is the real treat of this movie. Unfortnately, the time spent creating this fantastical world must have left him short on plot lines, for the story arc was predictable and all too familiar. Avitar is worth seeing on the big screen in order to appreciate the beauty of the movie, but don't expect any plot twists or character develpoment that you haven't already seen (Braveheart comes to mind).

Avatar 3D was very good, and shows both the heart and lack of heart by the human race. Both greed and appreciation.
The special effects of watching in 3D really made it a must. My eyes got tired in the beginning for a few minutes but I adjusted and the movie went faster than I expected. I would love to be able to see this at home in 3D as well! I can hardly wait!

A long, long time ahead . . . in a place far, far away . . . Dances With Wolves reappeared, except, in this case, Al Gore was elected. What "the party line" is depends on your perspective. In this case the "party line" is the Al Gore party line come to politicize us once again when all we want to do is just enjoy the movie. Yes, there are morals to the story, sufficient so that I was deeply moved. But please, leave the "party line" out of it. The critics are correct, this is juvenile story telling at best. I went into the movie expecting all the e pyrotechnics and it mostly delivered. I thought there would be more of the "out in the audience" 3-D than there was but it was still a great experience. This is not a kids movie.

I'm tired of hearing people say that Avatar has predictable characters, or an unoriginal plot, or manipulative aesthetics. Most of these people couldn't name five movies with the same plot without resorting to oversimplifications. And since when did we start discounting movies because they fit into their genre or asked us to feel strongly? Stop buying the party line, and try to see this movie as a myth, a story which accesses deeply important elements of who we are: the possibility of transcending our circumstances, the condition of living in a world we are estranged from but hope to be reconciled to, the challenge of protecting our home. The image is the story. Go live in Pandora for a while and try to come back without the party line.

Cameron does the hype justice in terms of how visually stunning this film is. I recommend that you see it in 3D. I did not see it in IMAX, but I can only imagine that it would be that much more exciting and beautiful! As for the story, Cameron hasn't broken any new ground. Is it in any way an original storyline? No. It is a storyline we're all familiar with and because of that, the audience can more easily wrap themselves up in the entire experience. Is it the most amazing film I've ever seen? No. It is worth seeing? Absolutely. Should it win an Academy Award? Certainly, but not for Best Picture.
