RealD 3D was crisper, cleaner with good sound. IMAX was blurry but had better sound. The visuals were breathtaking (What is James Cameron’s issue with Earth or human beings? In all his movies, Earth is either decimated by machines, just referenced by an earth crew visiting an alien world, or a piece of earth rises up and sinks a ship of humans?!) AVATAR’s underlying message of violently supplanting indigenous populations for personal gain is potent but not unique. The story is reminiscent of Pocahontas; but that to me is not the reason to see the movie. The epic qualities, scale and technical feats are worth seeing on the big screen in a theater. I’m sure some of that grandness will be lost at home even on the highest def TV.
