This movie is great for all people of (most) all ages! This film is packed with all sorts of movie greatness! The nature aspect of the movie is breathtaking--unprecidented in terms of integrated graphics. There is plenty of action for you combat feens, and futuristic technology for the tech-geeks out there (even I was impressed). This movie sends a great message, and forces you to be more cognisant of where our resources come from, and at what measures. Overall, a very fantastic film that will blow your mind :)

I'm sorry to say I have a hard time staying in a 2 hour 40 minute epic I'm trying to understand how those old epics like Ben Hur could be tolerated or how people watch those very long operas.I have an issue with this movie because of recurring Indian reincarnation garbage and a somewhat negative portrayal of Native American peoples as well. Blue godlike beings is too much like the Mahabharta. The word aweh is a rudimentary deriviation of what the ancient people called God in our own earth history. Ok 3d movies aren't anything new since they had this since the fifties. I watched the Terminator show in Universal Studios which is better since you have a auditory and sensory emulsion which this movie unfortunately doesn't.

The special effects in 3D were mind-blowing. I was in my own little world , well Pandora actually. Well written.. mix of action, drama, romance, and a message for all humankind to ponder. This is quite possibly the best movie I ever saw, and I'm 39. Make sure to see it in 3D with the RealD glasses. I'm going back to see it on the IMAX screen!

Truly imaginative and entertaining film on many levels with superb 3D display. There is good vs evil, a beautifully evolved love story, outstanding action adventure, triumph over adversity, great bravery and heroism, imaginative and expansive scientific concepts and state of the art use of technology that surpasses anything done before. Language was completely acceptable and violence intelligently subdued. Cameron is a truly great and sensitive Director. There are several really nice messages in this film. The realism draws you in and the images are beautiful. There are several performances at Oscar nomination level along with its Direction, Screenplay and methods used to create this ground breaking masterwork of Cinematic Art. 6 stars!

Avatar is NOT just a movie, it is a mental and physical experience that will not soon leave your heart, mind or body. The 3-D is spectacular, the likes I've never seen before. Unlike other 3-D movies where you merely watch the cute little visions and tricks, Avatar's 3-D immediately sucks you INTO the movie! It is as if you are PART of the movie, not merely watching it! You become a Na'Vi, you feel for the Na'Vi, you are completely immersed in their world as if you are THERE. The 3 hours felt like 1, I could have sat in that theater for another 2 hours without checking the time. Completely blew me away. Outstanding creation! Will see it again.

After the movie, as the credits were rolling I turned to my wife and said that's the best movie I ever saw. Since then I've retracted a bit, but that's the impact the movie had on me. It is simply movie making at its best. I particularly like movies that maximize the potential of the medium. Movies like Hook and Brazil and the first Star Wars come to mind. This is one of those movies. The imagination that created the life in that film is astounding. The plot is enough to sustain interest for the two plus hours but its the idea of the thing that captured me. Plus the not so subtle message about greeed decimating the planet had resonance as well.

Avatar depends upon stunning visual effects to paper over a paper thin plot, but those effects are only evolutionary not revolutionary. While the native people are unique, the machinery and weaponry of the humans pays homage to Robocop and Star Wars. Still, a good piece of escapist fare.

The 3D experience of Avatar (my first 3D ever) was fantastic. Particularly the scenes in the forest with the creatures there. The insects flitting about felt like they were right in the theatre. The story was the weak part. White man shows courageous but yet more weak-minded natives the Way. But the effects made up for some, if not all of the familiar story line. More violence than I like. This is not a movie I would've taken my kids to when they were younger than 11 or so. There were some younger kids sitting behind us who were crying and screaming at some of the more graphic scenes.

First, let me come clean about something: I didn't want to like this movie. It seemed like everyone who watched it came away either extremely impressed or depressed. I am firmly in the camp of the former.
The visuals are breathtaking, stark, vivid. The 3D is an excellent touch. For long moments I would forget where I was and would be completely immersed in the film.
The story is excellent. I've heard a lot of gripes about it being another Pocahontas. In defense of the film, let me say there are only so many themes to choose from; it's the telling of the tale that sets it apart from other movies of its kind.

The special effects were great as advertised. However, you may miss some of them when the story puts you to sleep during this 3 hour snoozefest.
The tired story is borrowed from many movies (Dances with Wolves is one) with borrowed lame dialogue ("get some") and others that would make this unwatchable if not for the 3D effects . If you must see it, see it in 3D to come close to getting your money's worth.

A truly wonderful movie in all respects. A well told story with mind-bending graphics that serve the story, instead of taking it over. The movie creates an entire world and draws you into it. Possibly the best movie experience I have ever had.
And those who complain about the message should read their history books!! Seriously.

The premise of this movie is "they " have something that we want & "we" will do anything to get it, including killing, destroying the environment, etc.Once this plot line became apparent (very early in the movie) I was disgusted...only stayed til the end so not to disturb the other people in my row.

Avatar looks good! In fact, it looks great! But, the reason people have called it "Dances with Smurfs" is because the story is the weak point. It really is close to "Dances with Wolves" meets "The Smurfs". Cameron knows visuals. His ex wives know story. He never learned that from them. The story is okay; it is one you will be familiar with and you will never be surprised. If you want a great and amazing story, see either "The Hurt Locker" or "Inglorious Basterds". If you want a visual feast (and you have to see it in 3D), then try Avatar. The visuals mostly make up for the predictability of the story. You should enjoy some popcorn with your eye candy.
