Avatar looks good! In fact, it looks great! But, the reason people have called it "Dances with Smurfs" is because the story is the weak point. It really is close to "Dances with Wolves" meets "The Smurfs".
Cameron knows visuals. His ex wives know story. He never learned that from them. The story is okay; it is one you will be familiar with and you will never be surprised.
If you want a great and amazing story, see either "The Hurt Locker" or "Inglorious Basterds". If you want a visual feast (and you have to see it in 3D), then try Avatar. The visuals mostly make up for the predictability of the story. You should enjoy some popcorn with your eye candy.
