This was a very good movie. I would have rated it very good rather than excellent but choosing between good and excellent, I had to go for the latter. The movie was a bit slow in the beginning but when it picked up, it kept my attention. I was truly entertained throughout the movie.

Avatar will not change the way I view or think about movies. The hype for this flick was too over the top and the plot and character development were rather simple. The 3D was cool but didn't in my opinion add that much to the movie. Another sticking point was why was the character of "Grace" (Sigourney Weaver) smoking? What did that add to the plot? Nothing! Finally, if this story is set in the future (2025?) what makes James Cameron believe that the "fist bump" will still be around? Wishful thinking?

I saw Avatar on a normal screen and loved it, I actually would have watched it from start to finish again right after it had ended. I loved it. Then I saw it 3D and although I still love the movie and the story, theres just so much going on that the 3D takes away from it. Unfortunatly you have to focus on what they want you to focus on with the 3D glasses because everything (besides the focus point) is blurry. Theres just so many amazing things you miss out on. All the wild life and the plants and everything, when I orginally saw it my eyes wondered and I loved it, with the 3D you dont get the chance to. Is it "cool" yes but if your interested in more than "cool" I would see it without the glasses

Thus far, everyone has told me that this was THE best movie they've ever seen. But for me, I didn't get it. The 3D effects are stunning, but the animation itself looks very cartoon-like. The plot was almost exactly like Pocahontas mixed with Ferngully and Dances with Wolves. Not too mention it's drastically racist. My grandson and I loved this movie. It is spectacular on so many levels. I absolutely love this movie. This is actually the 8th time I have seen it.
The story may not be new, but the telling of it is just amazing. It sets a new standard for movies going forward. See it in a theater in 3D- it won't be the same on disc.
Despite what I consider to be an unfortunate ad campaign- this isn't just a blue space alien shoot-em-up. It is a beautiful love story and adventure film with real heart, set in an incredibly realistic, stunning and lush alien world. I don't personally know anyone who hasn't been deeply moved by this movie in some way.
Even if you don't think it is your "kind of movie"- go see it anyway, you will probably be surprised!

The BEST movie ever. In 3-D is the only way to see it too. I have seen it twice so far and getting ready to take my 17 yr. old grandson. You really feel like your flying. I am still in awe of how far 3-D has come over the years. You are really there. TOTALLY AWESOME!!!
