This is the best movie I have ever seen, and I have seen it 20 times as of this writing.
It is amazing because of the technology and passion that went into creating the amazingly realistic world of Pandora and the Na'vi. It is also thought-provoking because of the clear message it sends. It turns a mirror on us, as humans, and many people don't like what they see.
Everyone should really see this once. Don't watch it with expectations- watch it for the wonderful bit of movie magic that it is. Most of the bad reviews I have read are from people who had expectations going in that weren't met. This is NOT like every other Cameron movie. It is NOT just an alien battle movie. It is NOT just a war movie.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

I absolutely love this movie. This is actually the 8th time I have seen it.
The story may not be new, but the telling of it is just amazing. It sets a new standard for movies going forward. See it in a theater in 3D- it won't be the same on disc.
Despite what I consider to be an unfortunate ad campaign- this isn't just a blue space alien shoot-em-up. It is a beautiful love story and adventure film with real heart, set in an incredibly realistic, stunning and lush alien world. I don't personally know anyone who hasn't been deeply moved by this movie in some way.
Even if you don't think it is your "kind of movie"- go see it anyway, you will probably be surprised!
