3D effects were amazing. The story was the usual, good vs. evil, but contained many modern day parallels that should make one think hard about who we are and why we do the things we do. The acting was a little weak at times but it wasn't that important in the scheme of things. All told, I would consider this a truly great movie.

Stunning, quick moving and surprisingly good date movie! Politics were a little over the top, but we agree with the other reviews that the visual effects will make you very forgiving. You feel completely immersed in this world thanks to the 3-D, and worth the $12 ticket to see in the theater!

Loved it! The special effects and the Na'Vi characters were so real that one gets completely lost in the movie immediately. The story was well done and amazingly believable. The film' s almost three hour length, without intermission may be problematic for some viewers, but most of the audience remained glued to their seats through the entire performance. I thought that the visuals were fabulous and I was not off-put by the 3D format as I thought I would be. The acting was so so, except for Sigourney Weaver;s performance, as one would expect.

I usually hate predictable movies - and Avatar IS predictable. But this movie is about indulging, not analyzing. There are some elements that will make you groan, primarily the heavy-handed political statements and the obvious parallels to current events. But you will forgive this movie for that. You will forgive it because it will leave you longing for Pandora, longing for the love that exists between the two lead characters, longing for meaning in our own existence on our real-life planet Earth and longing for the end to our own conflicts in a momentous and defining way.
Overall this is definitely a movie that you will enjoy for some very basic and simple reasons. Nothing complicated about Avatar, and that is quite alright.

My wife and I were blown away by the effects and the 3D was outstanding--there were times we literally ducked from objects coming toward us. The story was predictable, but it still held our attention and we were able to suspend our disbelief because of the great special effects. If you liked Star Wars movies, you're going to really enjoy this one even more, I believe. I totally recommend it to people of all ages.

Avatar exceeded my expectations! I do not watch movies more than once and I have gone to the movies to watch this in 3D twice so far. The IMAX version was surreal!! The floating jelly fish, amazing nature scenes, connection to nature and passion of the people stirred my soul. Excellent and very entertaining! You get sucked right into their world really early on in the movie. The visuals, sets and special effects were amazing. Definitely the best movie of its kind so far. I agree with many of the Hollywood movie critic's about the story line and while really familiar (Dances with Wolves, etc) - it was still good and worked well for this movie. They could have backed off some of the language given I took my 2 young boys - but nothing too bad and overall a great experience!!

Ok, so I went to this movie with anticipation that I had just wasted $12 on a goofy pair of glasses and some stupid special effects... Wow, was I ever wrong! The 3D really enhanced the movie incredibly! I mean the movie itself would have been stunning and fun to watch even in regular projection (The story, while predictable held my attention through the entire 3 hours, and the visual effects were incredible, transparent and believable) but the 3d added a level that I have never experienced before.
All in all a great movie experience and well worth the trip, and expense. The only thing that would have made it better to me would have been iMax 3D, that would have been wild!

I didn't think I would like Avatar. When I saw the previews I was not impressed. But the story line captured me. I loved the beauty of the graphics and was really upset when I had to take my son to the men's room and concession stand. I can't wait for it to come out on video even though I saw it in 3D. The only downfall was that it was expensive. I paid $12 for a matinee.

I honestly loved the movie and would watch it again. It's a mix of action, fantasy, science fiction, romance and I just had to love the graphics. The imaginative world was made real but it was a wow factor. Gotta love it. I recommend it to all. I would even bring my little daughter to see it. It does have some intense stuff but its not gory.
