I'll cut through the chase! This is one of the best movies I have seen in a very long time. Not only are the special effects and story plot outstanding, but all the background and scenery were simply breathtaking. Sigourney as well as the whole cast did an outstanding job in their respective roles. I can't say enough good things about the movie. Absolutely fabulous!

We went and saw Avatar in 3D, and it was a very good movie. The 3D effect did help bring out the details of the scenery, the natives and some of the action. There was never really any slow points in the movie which makes you so involved in the movie. I really didn't think i was sitting for about 3 hours.

This movie was great for both my husband and I. It had something for everyone: a lovely story line, action/adventure, science fiction, and beautiful graphics. As a scuba diver, it reminded me of the ocean reef. The 3D was the most sophisticated I have seen yet, and I am an avid movie watcher. lI could be okay for some children 8 to 10, but not all.

Wow. Just. Wow.
1.The entire movie was like a 2.5 hour visual feast.
2. Great story but with some obvious holes in the plot...and some missing scenes.
3. Leftist metaphors and rhetoric like "evil corporations", "love your mother (earth)", puppet military, man the destroyer. Cameron had some axes to grind about early American indians, colonization, the environment and virtues of simple tribal existence. A clear intent but not overly politicized.
4. Great job of making us viscerally feel for the Na'vi and how they were connected with their world and all things living in it.
Summary: Amazing. Stunning. Astounding. Breathtaking. Incredible. A visual feast.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

There aren't many movies that you walk out of and say "Wow!". This is one of them. So many special effects movies have a lousy story behind them and it's all about the effects. but not this one. The effects are beyond amazing, but the nice thing is that the effects don't overpower the story. They're an integral part of the story.
Be sure to see in 3D, as it adds so much to the look and feel of the movie.

In a word, breathtaking. Everything you see in this movie is incredible. The colors are vivid and eye poping, The action is intence and the special effects are the best I have seen to date. That being said, as I read in another review this movie is "Dances With Wolves" on another planet with ten foot tall blue aliens instead of Native Americans. It was a good story, good ending, good acting and the best visual effects to date.

This film was well worth the 12 year wait from Director James Cameron. Visually stunning (cliched I know), the 3D effects were awesome, and the world of Pandora is absolutely enchanting.
This tale is an allegory to the "Indian" wars in the US and todays war in Iraq. It's "How the West Was Lost".
The storyline was totally engaging and the actors were top notch. I especially enjoyed Sigourney Weaver and Sam Worthington and Stephen Lang as the villain.
It was like seeing Star Wars for the first time.
I loved it and plan to see it again in IMAX 3D.

Seeing this movie in 3D made the planetary and battle scenes more engaging. The message behind the movie (no war for resources) came through strong. The story line was predictable except for details like the method of bonding with "plant & animals" but I enjoyed the movie overall.

If you enjoy movies that transport you into another world for a few hours this is a must-see. the special effects are so real and so beautiful, I'd say at least 85% of every scene is visually perfect. Though there are some elements of the plot that are much too predictable, the storyline, drama and action are excellent, almost radical even.

In one word, AWESOME! James Cameron has truly drawn a new line in the sand in special effects and story telling! Almost three hours long and never once did we move in our seats! We saw it in the 3D version which had it's pros and cons. In the pro's column, the 3D effects are natural, seamless and non-intrusive. There are none of the stereo-typical 3D gags just for the sake of wowing or shocking the audience. It's just there and you are quickly lost IN the world Cameron has created. The only con was probably not the fault of the movie. At my theatre, the movie was too dark as in, lacking brightness. Maybe they needed to turn up the brightness level on their projector for the 3D and just didn't, I don't know.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Planet concepts fantastic, add 3D and really be "wow-ed". As others have noted, didn't seem like a near-3hr movie, held my interest. The plot was pretty predictable...tree huggers win, bad guy goes down. I think the best part of the movie was wondering..."now, how did these people come up with these ideas?"

I wasn't sure what to expect on the story, plot, or the CG special effects. My wife was also dubious since she doesn't usually like special effects driven movies. We both found the story line to be compelling and lost ourselves in the characters. Also we found the visuals to be stunning and very believable. It didn't even need the 3D treatment in my opinion to be a successful movie. We are in our 60's and don't see movies in the theater twice, but in this case we plan to make an exception. 4 thumbs up.

This movie was beyond a doubt the absolute best movie I have ever had the good fortune of seeing. The visuals were absolutely stunning, I saw the movie in 3D, and while I'm sure it's amazing in 2D, the 3D experience is a must! Well worth the extra dollars for the glasses, I would have paid double the price and counted the money well spent. The plot was basic, yes, in that it's about evil humans wanting to ruin another planet besides earth, but it achieves a certain kind of elegance as well, and some moments are so poignant you cannot help but feel a thrill run up your spine. Cinematic perfection has been reached, Bravo James Cameron, Bravo.
