This must be what the audiences at the Wizard of Oz must have felt; slack-jawed awe. I couldn't breath, blink, I didn't know where to look, scared to miss anything. Movies are an escape to world not yet discovered. This is the best film I have ever seen. The plot is not original, it is the plot of Dances with Wolves among others. The dialogue is at times lacking. But the visuals are beyond my poor power to describe. Cameron has done what he did with Terminator, The Abyss, Titanic. He has redefined movies.

I was awestruck and mystified by the overall makeup of the film. This movie was spectacular to watch and a delight even though it was long. I don't think the movie would have expressed itself correctly without being that long. The special effects where astounding and the characters were very believable. I would recommend this movie to everyone, especially those that have never seen a 3D movie before like me!!! Bravo!!

Overall this movie is very good. i will go see it again in the theater. Seeing this movie in 3D is a MUST. The technology they used is by far better than any 3D movie i saw before. The computer animation was the best i have seen as well. There are 2 parts to this movie. The storyline and the technology to make the movie. Technology is 6 out of 5 stars but the storyline is 4 out of 5 stars. the storyline was better than i thought it would be. It could have been better, but it is good. my review title kind of describes the storyline. Both parts of the movie have been meshed so skillfully. Even though this movie is 2 hours and 40 minutes, i found myself immersed in the story without being distracted by the technology.

Pros: 3D added nice details and immersive experience without any of the motion sickness feeling that can sometimes happen with 3D. Visually this was an amazing movie - head and shoulders above anything else I have ever seen. The special effects were flawless - just incredible detail. THe action was fun and exciting, the story engaging. Overall, it was absolutely everything a big Hollywood blockbuster should be.
Cons: A few cheesy lines here and there. A couple slow scenes in the middle.

Avatar unfortunately fails at everything it attempts to do.
The 3D is blurry in the foreground and background, so it ends up being an annoying distraction.
The plot is a lame, less inventive rehash of themes from Battle of the Ewoks, the Matrix, and Alien. A big disappointment considering Cameron's genius.
The human acting is also lame, seemed weird to even have those "real life" scenes. Are we redoing Mary Poppins here.
All in all, just a "gee whiz", "look mommy what I can do" featuring the latest CGI -- and the CGI was great -- just mainly ruined by gratuitous use of npot-ready -for-primetime 3D.
I'm a BIG fan of Cameron, so I will try to forget he did this flick.

I never heard of Avatar until I saw the previews. I have no complaints about this movie at all! Amazing scenery and storyline. They described the Avatar world's ways very very good. The colors were unimaginable. Recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen a decent movie in awhile!

Overall I thought the movie was great. The digital features were above all others I've ever seen. Pandora was structured and detailed very well and the action sequences were very smooth in 3-D. But the world James Cameron has created is more than simply a feast for your eyes. Although the screenplay is somewhat simple, it incorporates a number of moments that leave you clinched in suspense & drama. It also succeeds in bringing out multiple emotions of despair, anger, rage, disbelief, and love. The two main charaters, Jake & Neytiri (Sam & Zoe), were an excellent cast. The overall experience made it feel much less than the 160 minutes would seem to indicate. I even found myself tearing-up a bit in the final scene, just like when I saw "Little Danny" at the end of Michael Bay's "Pearl Harbor". It was a technical masterpiece; & should be a blockbuster for Cameron & Co., both in theatres, & on Blu-Ray!

This movie did not dissapoint! I was initially concerned about bringing an 8 year old child to the movie, but aside from a few random swear words, this was a wonderful family movie. It met my son's (11) need for action/adventure, my daughter's love of pretty animals and fantasy and my love of delving into the human conflict. The movie industry is currently banging out apocolyptic/end of world movies feeding into the 1212 hysteria. Those movies have no point, other than increasing an already anxious global conscienceness. Even after 2 hours and 40 minutes I wanted more. Finally a movie with a message that I can use with myself and my familiy towards bettering ourselves and our environment.

Just saw the movie this weekend in real3D, and its a very long drawn out movie. i walked in with no expectations what so ever. The visual FX are nice, and its use of vivid colors was the best part of it. Sigourney Weaver smokes throughout the whole movie, other than that, its definitely a kids movie and suites people of simpler minds. The plot is not as exciting as the trailers suggest and the marketing hype surrounding this movie is way overdone. would not watch this again, or recommend anyone to see it in the theater. sorry if i burst anyones bubble but this movie is JUST HYPE with no real content. there are so many other better movies playing, please go see another.

Avatar had excellent special effects. The science fiction concept of humans "driving" alien bodies to interact with alien races is exciting and well conceived. The storyline however of the aliens being connected to the "earth mother" and the natural force surrounding of nature on that planet mimics another movie called "Fern Gully" right down to the destruction of the main tree that was their home.

Five stars standing up. This was the most amazing show I've seen of any kind. Watched it at an AMC theatre that had excellent sound quality and provided us with nice/quality 3D glasses. This may have made some difference, too. Long show but never boring at any point. Kept my attention. I trully thought this movie was revolutionary and will win multiple awards in recognition. Highly recommend to all.

Awesome movie!!!!! I don't normally go to Sci Fi flicks, but since James Cameron was involved I thought I should check it out. It certainly delivered!! The story line was so spiritual to me. As a christian, it encouraged me about Heaven & the afterlife which I believe is real. Go see it and look for the deeper meaning.

The advertisements were absolutely correct - This is a whole new way to experience movies. Incredible graphics, much improved 3-D action, and WWooww - what a ride. We'll be seeing it again and will purchase it when it comes out.

The 3D version of Avatar is a visual marvel and is totally engrossing for the entire two hours and forty minutes. But, since Mr. Cameron spent 750 million dollars on this film, couldn't he have set aside a few million for someone to write a decent screenplay? The story is totally predictable and derivative: unworthy of the film's visual effects.

This movie has ruined me for all other flicks. Seeing it for the first time at IMAX was phenomenal! It was well worth the money they put into it and totally satisfied my inner geek. We had the best experience at the theater too. They made it as easy as possible for us to get our tickets and when we wanted to exchange from just the 3D to IMAX because we couldn't find how to designate online, they exchanged them with minimum hassle.
