When I tried to buy tickets for the Christmas day IMAX showing, they were all sold out so I went to the early show of the Real D 3D. The theater was packed even though I arrived 30 minutes early and had to sit in the second row towards the side, Even though I would rather have been somewhere in the middle, I was totally blown away with the visual images, story line, pacing and effects. This film is truly amazing and stunningly beautiful. Congratulations to James Cameron, Vince Pace, and Stan Winston for setting the bar on what all 3D films should look like in our future!!!

The most visually stunning movie I have ever seen. From the first moment you know you are in for a defining moment in cinematic history. perhaps the highest compliment I can give is that after a few minutes you forget you are watching a 3-D movie as you are totally immersed into this bold new world. The 3-D never seems to be too"gadgety " and it helps the story line rather than try to wow you with technology.
That being said, the story line is in itself compelling, if not original. I feel the movie could have been trimmed by 15 or 20 minutes.
My advice is go see Avatar, but bring a seat cushion and get to tthe theater early to get a comfortable seat. Enjoy the ride!

Was better than expected. Solid delivery. Story well developed. Visual experience was incredible. This will definitley set the bar for future movies especially with the sci-fi catagory. Look forward to see waht happens next. See it 3D while you can. The 3D experience is very balanced and not over the top. The special effects and 3D are as good as advertised. The FX are great; but they do not overwhelm the story or make up for the lack thereof.
Yes, the story is one that has been done before. Yes, it protrays certain people in a bad light. My suggestion is that if you do not want other people looking upon you as the bad guy then stop being the bad guy. Either that or kill and or subjugate everyone who does not agree with your point of view. After all, might makes right.
There is a moral to the story. Unfortunately some people have no morals so they don't get it.

First I'll admit that it has been a long time since the prospect of great special effects and brilliant action sequences was enough to get me to go to a movie. I'll also admit that Avatar had the best 3-D I've ever seen and the CGI was perfectly seamless. It is great looking.
But it is not even a good movie. No matter how terrific a movie looks, it still has to have an engaging story or at least interesting characters. Avatar has neither.

Thought I simply get to see this move the best way possible – In 3D and in a DeLux seating theater… One of the best movies I have ever seen. Totally worth the extra cost (for 3D version). I was transported. Nothing especially original about the plot line, except the location. But the drama and the animation were riveting. It's a long movie, but didn't feel like it at all. Very highly recommended.

Story: feels familiar; no surprises; you've seen it before in other movies. Cliche, as are the one-dimensional characters. Cinematography: beautiful, sweeping, epic, every shot real or CGI or both: seamless, alluring, major visual storytelling here. Acting: meh. Believable, as far as you need a comic brought to life to be. FX: a major step up, but not perfection. Cameron wisely avoided too many scenes mixing humans w/ aliens/avatars and wisely shot live action to look as much like super-CGI as possible - but the shots with blended technique give the lie to the illusion. And what gives, Cameron? Doesn't anybody SWEAT anymore?

I was simply in awe of the creative mind that wrote, developed, produced and made the movie into the creative masterpiece that it has become overnight! I thought the Lord Of the Rings Trilogy was a work of genius, the Avatar surpassed that and then some! The imagination works overtime to understand and interpret the artistry that unfolds before you! The storyline isn't complex, but that's not a bad thing. The action wasn't too much too watch. It wasn't too brutal. My heart ached at the thought of greedy businesses deliberately ad purposely destroying the lives , and existence of a race of people all for personal, financial gain. The creative genius is astounding! What will Mr. Cameron do next? I'm looking forward to his next works!

I do not usually wait in lines for movies, dont really see the point however I made an exception with Avatar and I am glad I did. This movie was simply amazing. It was so realistic I totally forgot that the Na'vi and most of Pandora's wildlife was all animation. Everyhting felt real. I saw the 3D version and it was very interesting but I dont think you need to see it in 3D to get a good experience. So go out there, stand in line and watch. You will be happy you did.

Good direction, acting and story. Visually, this movie is the best ever. I recommend seeing it at a digital 3D venue. I've heard so much hype about the "technology" used to make this movie. Big deal. The reason this movie is worth seeing is because it has an interesting story, good editing, great visuals, good cinematography and good music. You get lost in the movie in the first three minutes. BEST MOVIE EVER. I don't know why people are giving out false statements saying that this movie has a common story. I'm pretty sure that there isn't a movie that can be likely compared to this one.
Visually: Breathtaking graphics.
Story Line: Touching, Great use of perspectives
Overall: Leaves you wanting more

I have seen this twice now. 1st time was with my husband and my 15 yr old son who truly loved the movie although he did not immediately connect with the political (and other) under tones. My husband was expecting it to be "stupid" and "childish" and was "pleasantly suprised." Yesterday we went again to see the 3D version with my parents.. to quote my mom it was "the best movie EVER!".. my father agreed.. My husband was in awe and started telling all his friends to see it in 3D if they could. It was 10x's better in 3D. This is an ABSOLUTELY wonderful movie! I don't know about being the best EVER.. but for sure this is a top 20 movie ever!

It was a good movie. But the 3-d effects weren't great and the movie was too bloody long. I was bored half way through. The story could have been told in an hour less time at least. Rent it on dvd so if you get bored with it you can turn it off and not have to pay an arm and a leg to get in.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Incredible animation and use of the Live 3D to enhance the action and even add a light moment or two makes this the best 3D movie I've seen since Beowolf. But the story plot is rather thin and the action moves back and forth with little attention to continuity, which makes this a somewhat less than perfect experience. Overall, a great holiday movie and be sure to buy tickets to the 3D showing as there were a lot of disappointed people at the theater who had inadvertently bought tickets to the non-3D showings of this movie.
