While the movie was good, it fell short of all the hype. The special effects were good yet I thought there could have been more "3D" action otherwise the movie would be just as good without it. The overall message was a good one, however the storyline lacked depth which I expected due to the length of the movie.
From a cultural perspective I thought it was disappointing to once again have a white male "savior" for a culture that seemed to be other than white.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

We saw this in 3D and enjoyed the computer generated graphics. They were truly awe inspiring and full of imagination. Hence, one of the stars. The second star is for some of the acting which was well done. The story itself was weak, politically motivated and boring. I nodded off at least six times. Even my ten-year-old son thought it was dull. Unless you adore ANY scifi/fantasy film, you shoud stay home or see something else.

The visuals were amazing as expected. Unlike any other movie to date. I found myself zoning out like I was there on this fantasy world. The Avatar characters looked real, not like the typical animation characters. The story was interesting, but I had so many questions...like what if your Avatar dies?..what happens to you? Stuff like that. The action was top notch. This is an action flick, hands down. And it was done well. In the end, the story was a bit predictable, but you don't see a movie like this for the storyline.

Avatar 3D is a movie with a point-of-view(TM) that it sells hard with every gee-whiz special effect in the modern Hollywood arsenal. The villain is Western civilization. The heroes are Western scientists and "salt-of-the-earth" types who reject the rapacity of their culture, and lend the saintly (Native American surrogate) indigenes their empathy and hyper-macho-ness to save the day. Of course, the technology making all this wowie-zowie (TM) possible rests on 250 years of industrialization and environmental exploitation. That said, the film is watchable, and it makes some valid points about the greed of our culture. (Yes, Virginia, there are corporate sociopaths like Parker Selfridge...lots of them...working for us.)
Yes, I recommend this movie.

The only good part of this movie was the visual effects. The writing is terrible, and the acting (especially Sigourney Weaver) bad. The cursing was all unnecessary. It was preachy (uh-oh, the big bad corporations out to kill the environment for money....) and the "military" was stereotyped as mostly ugly thugs with a bloodthirsty commander. Did anyone else catch the name of the Avatar god? Say it backwards and you have "Yahweh." . It was such a mindless piece of cliche garbage that I hope James Cameron looses his $500 million shirt.

One of the BEST movies I've ever experienced. My first impressions: amazement @ the intensity of the graphics & mild annoyance (thought this would be just a tree-hugger film). It was so much more than that. Despite the inevitability of certain plot lines, the story was told in a touching, endearing manner; the main characters believable & well developed. It was so well done that I didn't leave with the feeling I knew the end at the beginning. There was something for everyone in this film: a love story for the romantic, fast paced adventure with graphic violence (don't take young children) for the action fan & enough gadgetry in the animation and overall story to delight the sci-fi fan. If you see one movie this winter, see this one!

This is the first movie I've ever left wondering when I could go back to see it again! I NEVER want to see a movie twice. The visuals in 3D were amazing, the imaginary world in which the story takes place is absolutely stunning. Story was very fun. (I don't see the need to interpret as a political statement as some are doing - I think it's just a FUN movie.) Definitely see it in 3D if you can.

Avatar 3-D was one of the best movies I've ever seen. James Cameron transported us to a world of incredible beauty and the movie totally exceeded my expectations! This is usually not my sort of movie but, man, what a visual experience. Must see it in 3D. It got a little long, but its length meant that there was "something for everyone"--battle scenes, love scenes, adventure, coming of age, eco-anthro-sensitive cultural scenes, science-geek stuff. This is a groundbreaker, whether you like it or not.

It was the first time to experience a 3-D movie. I really enjoyed the effects of being part of the movie. There were times I wanted to reach out and touch the special effects.
The movie itself was perfect for the this type of effects. The theme had many types of meaning related to it. and left the audience very emotionally touched.
My special respects to the director for sharing his talent with the public. I cannot wait for the blu-ray version.

This is the best movie I've seen in years!! Although almost 3 hrs long, it had everyone in our group riveted from start to finish. It's got macho violence but also a traditional love story. Then there's the environmental and native culture themes that's makes you cheer for the underdog.
We saw this in 3d which took a little getting used to at first, but really enhances the truly amazing special effects.

I thought Avatar was fantastic overall. The visuals were amazing and not once did I feel I was looking at CGI. The movie is a little long and the pacing in the middle was a little slow, but the end was so action packed and exciting.
This is a movie you have to see in a theater and if possible in 3D.

For someone who is not a big sci fi fan, Avatar was amazing. It combined stunning 3D effects, with a plausible story line....with a great love story, as well!
The reason for my rating of 4 stars instead of 5, is that the movie was unnecessarily long. 45 minutes could have easily been cut, without losing any of the incredible rewards this movie delivers.

I watched Avatar with my two sons and two grandsons. All of us thoroughly enjoyed the movie. I took my sons to see the original Star Wars, and Avatar is the Star Wars for their sons' generation. It was truly like going to another planet for three hours, and none of us wanted it to end. Avatar may have spoiled us for going to see other movies because this one sets the standard of enjoyment so high. You can analyze this movie to death if you want to, and some reviewers have taken that route, but you could do that to the Mona Lisa too, and it wouldn't change the fact that it is a masterpiece. Thanks to James Cameron for having the patience to wait until the technology enabled him to make Avatar the way it should be made. Great movie!!!

When i first heard of Avatar and was viewing the trailers, I was thinking it would be a fun movie with alot of great CGI. After seeing Avatar i know have to say that it is the best movie of my lifetime. Avatar has a story that challenges our thoughts of what life is. It shows what is right and wrong. It shows that not everyone is after the same things. The film never was slow or boring and i was not ready for the story to end. The idea of living and interacting among another species was amazing. That love is more than skin and bones. At first it was about winning and by the end of the movie it was about life and how people should be. Well done

Even if the story was terrible (which it isn't) this movie would be worth every dollar! It is visually gorgeous and the 3D was exquisite. On top of that, the story was beautiful. Well I must say, this was the most intense, and best 3D Graphics I have ever seen in a movie. Felt like I was on a rollercoaster that never ended. That being said I have to laugh at the mind of James Cameron the director of this film, is he a Shirley McClain, One with Nature Wacko? I felt like the movie had a great story line, but was pushing the New Age Religion on everyone, he should just keep his stupid New Age religion to himself, God is not one with everything!!!! God just created everything!!!!
