Avatar 3D is a movie with a point-of-view(TM) that it sells hard with every gee-whiz special effect in the modern Hollywood arsenal. The villain is Western civilization. The heroes are Western scientists and "salt-of-the-earth" types who reject the rapacity of their culture, and lend the saintly (Native American surrogate) indigenes their empathy and hyper-macho-ness to save the day. Of course, the technology making all this wowie-zowie (TM) possible rests on 250 years of industrialization and environmental exploitation. That said, the film is watchable, and it makes some valid points about the greed of our culture. (Yes, Virginia, there are corporate sociopaths like Parker Selfridge...lots of them...working for us.)
