I saw the movie in Real 3D and it was amazing. The alien vistas are beautiful. The filmmakers inspired oohs and ahhs from the audience at several points in the film. The movie is long, (2:40) but the story, while predictable, keeps you interested the entire time.

Imagine taking the scripts for "Billy Jack" and "Dances with Wolves" and putting them in a blender. Oh, and add ample portions of silly New Age spirituality, stereotypical characters, and a hackneyed plot. What would you have? Avatar.
The visuals are spectacular (we saw it in 3D), but everything else about the film is completely forgettable. To be honest, I didn't actually mind the stupidity of the film as much as I should have. I guess the world created by Cameron is so engaging that I didn't care that the inhabitants of that world are a bunch of dipsticks. But still, it would have been better if the whole film was done in the native language of the Na'Vi. Without subtitles.

This movie has some of the best special effects I have ever seen, and with 3d, its even more amazing. Cameron has triumphed in inventing a new form of film entertainment. BRAVO! I believe this is the best movie I have ever seen. I am a social studies teacher and was able to apreciate the use of US History and the lessons being taught regarding greed plus the threat of violence and genocide. "unobtainium" -- brilliant!
I also thought this was one of the most beautiful movies I have ever seen. I intend to see it again with everyone I know even if I have to pay for the tickets. I recommend to everyone that you see it in 3D and keep your glasses -- you will use them again.

My wife wants to see it again. That says it all. The 3D made a good story awesome. As an author, though, I thought the back and forth between the human realm and the Avatar (the dreamer) was the new aspect to science fiction story writing. 3D did not make that part better, because it didn't have to.

Took our adult kids and spouses to see Xmas weekend. We saw the 3D version. Don't know why anyone would NOT see this version. The movie was absolutely phenomenal. We saw Avatar and I was worried about the talk of being "sick" and I felt none of that. The movie was very entertaining and fun. It was very creative and amazing with special effects. Really a magical movie. Mesmerizing. I've seen it twice, I have to see it again. I will say that the story line had some annoying flaws. All the cheap shots at capitalism, technology, corporatism were just not necessary. For instance the soulless frat-boy, ceo who practices his putting while spewing gems like "they're fly bitten savages" is just corny - a paper thin cliche. Same for the homicidal marine captain who is yet another cliched caricature which this movie abounds with. Whatever, I still loved it!

Loved it! Different. Thought provoking. Political inferences from our time and also perhaps from a time when the U.S. was being created and the current occupants were facing the invasion of the "whites." Rated appropriately too. Some of the scenes were hard to explain to younger kids and if you are thinking to bring a child under 5 yrs - it could be disturbing on one hand and on the other hand -because it is almost 3 hrs long - a young one probably wouldn't sit still for the whole movie. Overall I can't wait to see it again. Well worth it! Saw it in 3D.

Our entire family of 5 from our 75 year old grandmother, to our 10 and 8 year old daughters truly loved this movie. It is a rare combination of sci-fi and love story and both story lines work seamlessly. It never dragged on and it was always engaging. There are fight scenes and some bad language but it did not frighten our girls who usually don't like violence. The storyline was fresh and new but totally believable. I highly recommend this film to all ages.

Visually, Avatar is a stunning movie. Unfortunately, it is also preachy and pretentious. Themes of greed and mass consumption, to the detriment of the environment and humanity in general, were conveyed in a much more subtle and tasteful way in Wall-E. I’ve never written a review b4. However, THIS movie is fantastic, riveting, worth writing here. It will go down as one of the ground-breaking classics of all time. Those who are cynical re plot are entitled to their opinion, but I felt the creative way of portraying the devastation of Native Americans by Europeans was powerful, heart-wrenching, yet inspiring too. It portrayed our destruction of the earth in a way that draws you in without being lectured... you don't connect the dots until after the movie. I want to see this movie again -- I NEVER say that.

This movie was so well produced that I felt like I was a part of the Avatar world. I think the mix of science, military action, and fantasy could have been a disaster, but James Cameron made this one of the most impressionable movies for me this year. People need to see what attacking an inoccent group of people feels like from the innocent people's point of view. I was able to see that without feeling like I was being brainwashed. The graphics were unbelievable and the land as well as the language was absolutely beautiful. A place I certainly wouldn't mind visiting again in an IMAX theater.

The visuals were every bit as good as I thought they'd be. The story could have been a little more fleshed out. The plot was very much "Fern Gully" goes to space. That being said, you are quickly drawn into the movie, and the 3D effects are the best I've ever seen. I've already recommended this to several friends.

This movie was fantastic! I have 2 boys (ages 6 & 10) and this movie kept they're attention the entire time. We watched the movie in 3D and it's was a great experience. Definitely worth seeing!
