I was worried I might regret paying a little extra just to see this movie in 3D....... worth every penny, and MORE! Avatar was visually stunning from start to finish and although the "wow factor" of the effects outweighed the characters slightly, I thought they still did a good job of developing the characters from the very start. As a viewer, you are emotionally invested in the main character very early in the film, and you despise the villain of the film just as quickly. I knew there would be a political "message" in the storyline, but it wasn't "in your face" at all, in my opinion and did NOT distract from the film itself. Overall, "Avatar" is very entertaining and I would highly recommend it!

The worst thing I can say about this movie, is that the plot is a familiar one, in so many ways. Underestimated guy steps up to the plate, saves the good guys and gets the girl. However, the acting is so strong, the direction is so seamless, the special effects are so spectacular, the cinematography is so grande, that this movie tells the story like no other. It is epic - no, seismic! Some undoubtedly have said that you are just crushed by the special effects - but where are they? Unlike George Lucas's new Star Wars trilogy, they are barely obvious, being so seamlessly woven into the fabric of the film, like never before. This is cinematic history in the making and would be a terrible mistake to miss on the big screen.

This move was terrific. Long - yes, worth it - definately!!! I was amazed at the graphics and animation. The story line was terrific. As the story went on I wanted to live on Pandora. The creatures on Pandora were interesting.
I haven't seen a movie that I couldn't stop talking about in a long time My husband and I are stll talking about it and we saw it opening day.
If you haven't seen it yet you must. I can't wait til it is released on DVD.

This movie succeeds brilliantly on every level: technology, writing, acting, and theme. It's synergistic, melding all filmic elements into a cohesive, entertaining experience. Cameron's theme is Green, but not didactically so.
Cameron does portray corporate and military organizations as stereotypically greedy and violent, yet the hero depends on his military training and on corporate technology in his quest to save the Na'vi. And they seek his aid precisely because he possesses those qualities. They need what they hate, what's destroying them. A classic turnabout, but not simplistic at all.

I don't go to the movies that much but when I do go, I go see the Movies that have very different concepts and look promising. Avatar really had that feel for a great story and with Anticipated Action! It was interesting the whole way through and that was one of the great things about this movie. In the end I realized that one meaning of the movie wasn't about learning a new culture but about the greed of a more powerful culture that threatens to ruin a civilization to get what's important to them. Overall, Great Movie! I don't anticipate a Sequel, because this by itself is an instant Classic!

There's no way i can give a good reason in 750 characters...
1. great visuals, james cameron is well known for his imagination and his gift at presenting it well.
2. but the plotline was rushed because of the overwhelming yet insignificant scenes of pandora. despite being almost 3 hours long
3. acting was poor (as it usually is now days), and the only good members of the cast were killed off prematurely for no reason and quickly forgotten. what a waste!
4. not a good use of 3d, and not worth the headache.
5. still was pretty awesome despite that.

Extraordinary movie. What an achievement in animation and story telling. It brings the pangea principle to life. I also beg to differ with the reviews that I have read accusing Cameron of having creating an anti-military movie. It was the main character's military training and heart that enabled the people of Pandora to protect their world. This movie is a wonderful example of where military force was used by the people of Pandora to protect something of great value.

I liked this movie ALOT! I can not think of any real weak point in it after seeing it three times. It has some of the best CGI that has been done in movies to date. I thought the script was good and well thought out. The music fit everything well. I think I could put this movie in my top ten list easily.

Althought the special effects and cinemetography were visually stimulating, this movie disappointed - maybe because we waited to see it until we had heard too much hype. The (human) characters were over the top, especially the vengeance seeking military guy and the stereotyped money hungry but morally vapid corporate CEO played by Giovanni Ribisi. We saw the movie in 3D, and the glasses were really uncomfortable and distracting from the movie. I had to take them off several times. Overall, I would give this move a "B," which is not bad but a far cry from the "Movie of the Year" reviews I have heard. Just lower your expectations and you are bound to have a pleasant experience.

I wish the adventuresome creativity employed in the development of the physical world had been matched in that of the character and story. Why play it so safe? Must we know everything that's going to happen well before it does? Why have dialogue at all if not a single innovative thought leaves any characters' fabulous blue lips? The remarkable visual work only made the ultra-safe story all the more frustrating and brought to mind the old studio maxim that there are only 6 stories you can tell. The work of the cast was strong but limited by the dialogue. Arousing a knee-jerk reaction from a few conservative windbags should not give the illusion of strong story-telling.

With the assigned seating, I wasn't able to see who I was sitting next to, until we got to the theatre. The gentleman next to me probably weighed 400 pounds, had emphysema, and couldn't quite fit into his seat. Anytime he needed a drink, I experienced real life 3D, as his elbow almost clocked me like 30 times. The movie, is Dances with Wolves but in space. Hot guy falls for hot girl, does everything to preserve hot girl's race. The 3D was by far the most amazing thing I've ever seen. I spent a lot of the movie looking at the backgrounds, animals, etc. instead of paying attention to the characters.

The writing was definately not up to par with the rest of the movie. They need a beter script if they want to be recognized with The Lord of the Rings, rather than as a typical 14-year-old's story. (well, maybe that's an overstatement) Sure the effects were over the top, but they could've gotten by with less and still have made it look incredible. All in all, well done, but they won't make as big of a profit as they could.

From the time the introduction started in 3D to the end of the movie, I had a smile on my face! What a treat it is to see a breathtaking movie that obviously took a lot of time and care to make. I thought this movie was one of the best ones I've seen in a long time. The storyline was simple, even reminded me of the old cowboy/Indian westerns, but the graphics and special effects made you not care! It is one of the few movies that I will pay to see again on the big screen instead of waiting for the DVD release.

The story is an old one and not done very well. The new technology used to film the movie produced very good graphics. If you are into the technical side of film making, then see the movie. If not - skip it.

We loved this movie! Our group was comprised of 2 senior adults, 2 parents and a college student - everyone was in total awe. No question it is LONG, but we all felt it was totally worth it. The SE were amazing and many in the theatre gasped numerous times. We were totally lost in Avatar land. Sure, one can see the attempt at poliical satire but we went to see fantasy - there is enough political agenda in real life....Now, we can't wait to see Alice In Wonderland!

I can't remember when a movie like this has had such an impact on me. Maybe Starwars. That tells you how old I am. I can't wait to see it again. I recommend you see it in 3D. The best special effects of any movie I've seen to date. It is a must see.

This is a timeless story (obviously also a warning, but that's OK - we need to think about what we do from time to time). Beautiful scenery, creative, awe-inspiring landscapes. The story was excellent, 3D was stunning. We sat in about row 6...no other seats for our party of 4 to sit together. With 3D, I should have tried to sit further back. Even up close, this movie rocked, visually!! Would purchase this movie when it comes out, hoping to see "The Making of Avatar".

The special FX /CGI were amazing and really popped in 3D. That made the 3 hrs go by quickly. The story line has been several times, it is basically a western (Think Dances w/ Wolves or Quigley Down Under).
