Do not mistake Kick-Ass for Citizen Kane or Gone with the Wind. But if you like your violence edged with humor, your action tinted with pathos, little girls with foul mouths, and colorfully costumed people getting beat-up, then Kick-Ass is a highly satisfying entertainment.
The first 20 minutes drag a little as we go through the typically insufferable Origins Story. But once the brutality gets going, it just keeps going and going and going.

Very Funny. Interesting commentary on "I don't want to get involved." This motif shown throughout the film. Also revenge, vigilantes, 'justice' in a society with a corrupt police force. Girl to boy in KickAss, "I really enjoyed those Ditko Spider-man's that you recommended." Steve Ditko is an important figure here. He did it all first with Mr A, though revenge is not part of the Mr. A character. Watchmen was a tribute/ insult to Steve Ditko. This movie may be the same.

Basically I was wowed by how brutally cool this movie was. The gory head-shots, the action scenes cleverly mixed with some simple dramatic plot. It sets it up for a kick ass 2 very obviously. but thats ok, because if this one was this good, the second will be awesome too. :)

This was an excellent re-tell of the original comic books. It is right on with the uncensoring of what the characters say just as it'd be done in the comics. The action scenes were intense, where it leaves you sitting there anticipating the next kill-all scene.

Wow, first time I'm going to review a movie...because this movie was worth reviewing!
This movie had a lot of good elements...comedy, action (even a bit of gore), heart moving moments (even my boyfriend felt it, during the diner scene), a good storyline overall...it never made you doubt anyone's abilities on the screen...heck, Hit Girl was a great movie all on her own in my opinion...
The movie had it's 'valuable' lessons, you will attach to the characters, which makes this movie memorable. Just watch it!!!

We went to see it Saturday....we all loved it. Great action, mixed with comedy, well thought out plot...this movie is a classic!!!! Loved the Nicholas Cage, Big Daddy character, it was like Adam West being Batman...overall, I highly recommend...but please don't bring your kids.

I'm a long time comic reader and movie-goer, and am on record with my friends as not liking Mark Millar and John Romita Jr's Kick-Ass comic very much. The movie, on the other hand, is great - a significant improvement on not only the source material but also the director's previous film, Stardust. Kick-Ass is an uncompromising bit of satire that also satisfies as an asskicking action flick. Well done. Hit Girl and Big Daddy need a prequel all their own.

Saw movie with my husband. I "overlooked" the reality of an 11-year-old actress portraying a killing machine and thoroughly enjoyed the story, acting, cinematography, soundtrack, etc. My husband couldn't get past age of the actress/character and her participation in the film. That aside, the violence was a bit overwhelming. I hid my eyes at first, but found myself chuckling and cheering towards the end. Great characters, great story, great editing, looking forward to the sequel.

In reading some of the other reviews here, mostly those warning away teens and younger, it's RATED R FOR A REASON. To quote the vary prominent rating: "Brutal violence throughout, pervasive language, sexual content and some drug use, some involving children."
It's all laid out for you so that you don't walk in unawares.
That being said, I loved this movie! Others in my group likened it to the bastard child of a relationship between Napoleon Dynamite and Kill Bill. By turns funny and cringe-inducing. This is a comic-based movie with some TEETH for a change.

Let's be clear - Hit Girl makes the movie. The storyline surrounding Kick-Ass is a bit tiresome, not to mention the dialogue is not on par with other "geek angst" movies such as Napolean Dynamite. However, the movie is worth watching for two primary reasons: Hit Girl and the soundtrack. I will give kudos to Nic Cage and his "channeling" of Adam West (yes, very funny) but it is clear that the writers were really in their groove and likely squealing with delight as they explored how far they could push the boundaries regarding dialogue for an 11-year old. She is a raunchy, borderline sociopath that, as far as we can tell, directs all her vitriol for the villians of the world, especially those responsible for the wrongful imprisonment of her father and subsequent suicide of her mother. True, she was spurred on by her father to build her rage and weapons arsenal (not to self: do not attempt home schooling) but she is clearly not wired correctly. Regardless, she rocks. The movie drags without her, plain and simple. I will also give a huge shoutout to the soundtrack which was filled with truly inspired choices, all of which have likely become new inclusions to thousands of IPODs everywhere.

the "good" characters were quite amiable... while the "villains" were not... thus, creating a ripe atmosphere to root for the good guys... however, it was far too violent for me to give it more than 4 stars... i didn't quite like the message that it was giving to young people... to anyone for that matter... at the same time, the actors did a great job. nick cage was as good as i've seen him... and that little girl was excellent...

I expected a quirky movie and some laughs. After watching the movie, I was deeply disappointed -- mostly, I was disappointed that the theater was so empty because this was NOT just a quirky little movie and somehow the word has not gotten out that this is a TERRIFIC little flick. While filled with teenagers, it definitely is NOT a teen flick and deserves the "R" rating for language and violence. Probably nothing my 13yo daughter hasn't heard before, but I wouldn't want her repeating the lines at school, either.
The best performances in this movie are given by Nicolas Cage and Chloe Moretz, by far. Anyone who ever watched an old Batman TV show will find Cage's vocalizations hilarious. Moretz continues to mature as an actor and now performs more and more as did Natalie Portman in The Professional and Beautiful Girls. This child, at 13, is a phenomenal actor and can expect to receive the sort of roles that Portman eventually received, as well. Keep watching her over the years.
The balance of the cast is capable, if forgettable and largely unknown.
Whether the film can recoup the reported $70 million budget remains to be seen (certainly not with empty theaters like mine), but perhaps DVD and overseas sales are where the money is on this project. That is a bit sad -- this movie should be seen in all its glory on the big screen.

I expected more humor from the trailers but it was all the action and brutal violence you could ask for the language was a bit much as it lacks substance other than f-bombs spewing from a ten year old to her parent on the other hand he shoots her so what can you expect. but overall hey my life is funnier than this movie. but thankfully the action sequnces are great and carries the movie

I went into this movie thinking it was going to be a lame, teenage geared wanna-be flick. Boy was I wrong! This movie had great graphics, action, drama, and a dark twist. It had everything! I laughed, I jumped, I almost cried.
Everyone should give this movie a chance, you will be pleasantly surprised.

My wife and I went into this movie expecting it to be quirky fun, primarily punctuated with action and comedy.
The action sequences were well done, though some seemed a bit too fast. Maybe some more slow motion play within the action sequences would have made it a bit better, but it didn't hurt the overall play of the movie.
The comedy bits are well placed and added well to the story. The humor was not overtly crude, which is a fresh change in today's comedy market.
We were a bit surprised in the emotional draw into the story line. We did not feel emotionally attached to the characters for the first half of the movie. Instead, you become more emotionally attached to the situations the characters get into. Eventually, the second half brings you more into connection with all of the characters.
I would not recommend anyone in their early teens see this movie without adult supervision, and anyone younger should not see it until they are older. Though nudity is listed as one reason for the rating, I did not see anything I would consider inappropriate, since most kids see the same amount of skin just going to a swimming pool. There are only 3 sexual situations in the whole movie, they are not graphic, and 2 are played off more as humorous. The violence is gratutious once Hit Girl enters into the movie.
Good movie overall...

The action is intense! I haven't seen anything like this since Kill Bill! This film is a true homage to Asian cinema like Shogun Assassin! And I enjoyed it much more than Watchmen!
Performance wise, Chloe Moretz was totally awesome! She could be the next Natalie Portman!
And as violent as the movie may be, it has great social commentary on violence in pop culture and the widespread nature of "spectatorism" in society.
Be a HERO! Get involved! Leave your kids at home, and go see this one!
