The only way you will enjoy this movie is if they pay you to go see it. And then if you use the money to buy copious amounts of alcohol to dilute the mindnumbing stupidity of this film. It claims to be a comedy, but none of the 25 people in the theater even giggled. Maybe the writers were trying for the 12-year-old boy demographic. This show was so bad, it prompted me to write this, my first ever review, just to warn the public. And don't get me wrong. I have nothing against juvinile humor. Last year's The Hangover is one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. But this one wasn't even close.

This is the worst movie I have ever seen in my life! I always enjoy watching SNL, but probably will not watch them again after seeing this movie. This adult comedy movie take-off of a Saturday Night Live regular feature is one of the most successful SNL TV-to-Movie (if not the best) transformations yet attempted. If you are easily offended by SNL-style humor made exponentially more crass for it's movie incarnation (note the well-deserved R rating) ... then best to skip this one. Teenage and college boy humor abound here - and then some. I like to imagine myself far above this type of low brow humor but, I will be honest, I found myself laughing out loud a lot in this movie (quite a lot). A guilty, adult, funny-bone pleasure.

Yikes, it was definitely a stinker... again, from SNL. There were maybe 10 people on opening night in the theater and we actually started talking to each other about midway through the film.
Watching such a bloated Val Kilmer was positively agonizing. This was one of the best actors of our generation and to see how far he has fallen was really a disappointment. He's been reduced to a small part in a B movie and still fails at even that.
Save your money and go do something else.

Knowing that MacGruber is a spoof of the MacGuyver series, I wasn't expecting more than humorous entertainment. I wasn't let down. Although there were parts of the movie that sort of dragged, overall, I was highly amused and laughed out load at certain scenes. I don't pay much attention to critics, and had lowered my expectations so I really enjoyed the movie.
It's a spoof, if you're expecting something that isn't a spoof, you need to get in touch with reality. Enough said. :D

Going into it, I went expecting the worst based on word of mouth. I left satisfied and would recommend. The movie does make you laugh and has some great sight gags. At the end, MacGruber was a funny action comedy that throws all the punches!

Start to finish I was rolling on the ground laughing. I saw it two times over the weekend and it was even funnier the second time. Will Forte leads the cast with a brilliant performance. His timing is impeccable and right on. The entire cast ensemble is a great combo. Kilmer was perfectly cast as the villain. Phillipe is a perfect straight man to Forte's character. No surprise that Forte and Wiig heat it up beautifully in an over the top and ridiculous but hysterically funny love making scene. On its heels, Forte heats is up again in a not-to-be-believed cemetary sex scene with Maya Rudolph. Way to go, Powers Boothe, on his spot on portrayal.
You can see clearly from these reviews that this movie has a certain sweet spot in terms of an audience. If you want a fantastic break from the day-to-day, to step back into the 80s a bit with all the fun reminders (music, pop culture, clothing, etc) and want to laugh nonstop at completely over the top stuff you haven't seen before, this movie is definitely for you!

Granted, this is not even remotely a candidate for top 10 comedies of the year, or even top 10 SNL movies ever. That being said, the humor in this movie is not so much from the jokes themselves or the depth of the characters, as much as from the cliche values of both. Will Forte clearly created MacGruber as a parody on SNL and this movie is simply an extension of that. If you like the skit, and you don't expect much more than 90 minutes of it - with a slight story line to loosely tie it all together - you should enjoy this movie. No, it won't make you think, and no you probably won't talk about this movie for years - or even weeks - to come, but this reviewer found it to be a pleasant diversion.

Honestly, if you've seen the commercials, you've heard all the best lines in the film. There's one mildly humorous sight gag involving celery and rectums, but that's about it. I think I laughed about 5 times the entire movie. I'm not one of those guys who needs highbrow humor either; Tropic Thunder is one of my favorite movies of all time, and I went into MacGruber hoping for something similar. Not even close. I can't imagine this movie being enjoyed by anybody except 13--year-old illiterate male virgins.

I felt that this movie was all hype and no substance. Besides some cleaver lines, the main character wasn't funny and his delivery was awkward. Kristen Wiig was the funniest part of the movie. This is definitely the kind of movie you either absolutely love or completely hate. There was a lot of stupid humor and I'll admit some of the jokes did fall flat. You have to be a very special kind of person to love a very special kind of film like this. If you love the skit you will probably love the movie. Personally, I don't think I ever laughed out loud so hard at a movie. I freaking loved it!

Consistently funny throughout. Everyone in the theatre loved it. Amazing cast, super funny movie. You will have so much fun seeing this movie!

While I like stupid movies, this one was painful to get through. It was really terrible. It might be ok on video, where you are not forced to watch all of its badness at once, but I doubt it. I laughed twice in two hours. And one of those laughs was really just a sideways smile.
Not even a "well I have two hours to kill, how bad can it be?" movie.

this movie had the whole theater rolling from start to finish! will forte takes the baton from a long line of comedic SNL geniuses!
also a 'one liner' classic that will give you more material so you don't have to keep quoting Fletch all the time.
if you don't like this movie you probably don't like puppies or ice cream.
see it!

Two minutes into this "thing" and you are concerned. Another three minutes and you are seriously worried. Ten minutes later you know you are in for the longest movie of your life. No wonder in a theater of 200 only ten seats are filled. Somehow I missed the horrible reviews.
How could this have even been released? It will be on DVD in a month and on sale in the $2 video dump box a day later.
