It's hard to find a movie these days that has great actors, clever and fresh writing, and new "stories". This is one such movie. It doesn't use special effects, crude humor, or rely on one person trying to carry the film. The entire cast is strong, and the movie SO darn funny that my husband and I find ourselves telling everyone we know to go see this film! Just wish it had as much publicity as some of the big stinkers that are being shown nationwide these days. Good Adult Comedy.

If ever there was a sappy, contrived script, this is it. Too much convoluted made up nonsense and few surprises. This movie plays like a bad 2 o'clock in the morning made-for-TV movie. It's about a dysfunctional family with its lies, secrets and deceit which ordinarily might be interesting but not here. Andy Garcia takes on a horrible New York accent that literally made me cringe. The young son is desirous of extremely obese women which was acted to disbelief. In fairness, the acting was good; too bad the script was not.

Having lived in New York and visited City Island on several occasions, I could truly relate to this location. As for the movie, every critic I read was absolutely correct. Andy Garcia has never been better, Julianna Margules was truly "The Good Wife" and the supporting cast were equally as talented. Even the small role Alan Arkin played was poignant. This is a "sleeper" of a movie. It has great cast, great script and great acting. I felt as if I were looking into my own past. Remarkable Film!

At first, the movie appears a bit serious, not so. I laughed continuously at all the twists and turns. It's very well directed and acted. In a world of movies that are barely mediocre, this one is unique, surprising and clever. I loved that he (Vince- Andy Garcia) became friends (just friends) with a British woman and she helped him find himself. He did the same for her. It's a movie about "secrets" and sharing...a wonderful 2 hrs! (It is an adult film, the children would be bored!)

Even though from the synopsis this movie seems far fetched, the writing, filming, and acting all make it extraordinarily believable. I laughed out loud at several points in the movie, but it was also poignant and moving as well. It has a feel good ending, but it's not at all saccharine and all of the characters were well constructed and the writing and editing were well thought out. I will definitely buy this movie when it comes out on dvd as it is one of those that I could watch over and over.

A film about a family lost in the turmoil of its own accumulated lies. Ordinary folk -- with colorful accents and blue collar ambitions: getting the eldest thru college, the youngest not to flunk out of highschool while getting along in a exhausted marriage. Well directed (the actors shine and you feel like you're eavesdropping) and well written (the family arguments are hysterical but ring true). The irony that a visiting felon forces Truth to the surface is both hilarious and satifying. More than worth the ticket price. Great for teens (who'll love the sarcastic teen and ironic humor), dates (there is romance in this) and exhausted parents (who'll find hope glimmering between the arguments and punch lines). Thoughtful, observant, warm-hearted movie making -- yea!

Although some of the material was somewhat heavy, it was delivered with grace and humor. The casting was superb! Ezra Miller as Vince Jr, at times stole the movie. Also, I was not aware that Julianna Margulies had such versatility. Steven Strait's facial expressions necessitated no dialogue. Emily Mortimer was excellent as a troubled, gentle soul. Her character had great depth that wasn't revealeved until the end. Last but not least, Andy Garcia was tremendous and totally believable in his role. He captured the essense of the Italian American male in NYC. The necessity to appear as though he has power to save face, and yet a vulnerable side he is unable to show. Bottom line, never prostitute who you are. Be true to yourself. The truth always wins!
