Nicolas Cage does a good job, Jay Baruchel is a very convincing geek. The character of Becky was quite superficial and I think a better job could have been done with the story as a whole if the "love interest" was removed and more time was spent on David's training and on developing the build-up to the climax, which all told was really rather predictable. Still, I wanted to take my 10-year-old daughter to a movie, this looked like a good choice, and I was right. If your kids like Harry Potter-type movies, chances are they'll like this.

Very good family movie. Special effects were great and plot was compelling. As a Nicolas Cage fan - enjoyed his character and thought he was more the primary than the apprentice.
Overall, if you (or your child) enjoyed Percy Jackson - this movie is a great fit. Although my mid teen ager chose not to go, my younger 2 kids enjoyed the movie very much. Nice to be able as an adult to enjoy a movie that's not animated.

Took my 2 teenagers to the movie, celebrating my 19 years old son's birthday. We had a great time and enjoyed the special effects. We were told to stay through the credits to watch the clip at the end, which we did and found out that it looks like a squeal is going to be made. Liked the short reference to Mickey and the movie Fantansia. A little twist on who dies and lives at the end and the short clip so wait until the credits are all done and watch it.

While the movie was fun and the special effects were great, the main apprentice character came off as an inexperienced and poor actor. I could have gotten my dog to do a better acting job than him...and he's been dead over 10 years. The plot was a little cliché, but since everything these days is a repeat of the movie before, I can't hold it against it. Overall, while I would watch the movie again, I won't pay to watch it again.

The movie was okay but not great. Nicolas Cage was good but I didn't care for the main apprentice character. Many parts of the movie were just not well written or acted. I took my 9 year old son and he liked it. I like Nicholas Cage and his characters are always interesting. I did not find the underdog nerdy hero character engaing or really believable- maybe it was the actor playing the part. Definitely a good rental.

This was a story of fantasy and fun for us (the grandparents) and the kids to just sit back and enjoy without worrying about any social stories to be deciphered. The kids thought that the apprentice was too much of a wimp but were happy that he did so well in the end. Overall Cage did a good job.

I thought that this was a great adaptation of the movie "Fantasia", Nick Cage still in great form. I had high expectations for this movie and was very disappointed. The acting was horrible, and the script wasn't much better.
The most believable character was the bad guy. When the good guys almost died, I didn't even feel bad. I just thought great- they won't be able to make a sequel.
The little kid who played David in elementary school should have been the star of the entire film. He was believable.

The Sorcerer's Apprentice from Fantasia is one of my favorite childhood memories. This movie will not go down in history like that one, but it is fun.
Nicolas Cage embraces the fluff and is great to watch. Although por Alfred Molina seems stuck in "Doc Ock-land" , the rest of the actors carry off the melodrama and the jokes quite well .

However, Disney and Bruckheimer only made it even better, giving a new life to the title and even made reference in itself to the original, while making further references to pop culture at the same time. Without spoiling the movie, I can't quite go into detail of where all the references are, but most folks will pick right up on them. The film itself showed great promise in the trailers and it certainly did NOT fail to give us what we were hoping for. The entire movie had me riveted to my seat, glued in place by the very magic Disney had hoped to achieve. There's plenty of magic and adventure in this film and, while I could argue that the song choices that were woven in could have been better, overall, the incidental music tracks were perfect for each scene. Without a doubt, I would recommend this movie for most everyone, save for the very young expecting something less explosive.

The movie was filled with wonderful special effects. Before seeing it, I wasn't really sure if I would enjoy it. I was pleasantly surprised. It had the usual aspects one would find in a Disney movie; action, comedy, a little romance, suspense, great special effects and the uplifting moral or message. The message of the story was clear and while it could be used by adults and young people both, it seemed more directed at the younger crowd. I thought the movie was very entertaining, and worth seeing again.

The movie is pretty good. It had everything I expected it to - romance, action and sci-fi/fantasy. The plot and story were really good. The car chases - great!
Only draw back was the dorkiness of the main character, though, I realize that he is supposed to be that way. It just left me having to suspend reality a bit more than imagined.

A movie that is easy on the eyes and ears, it has a little something for everyone.
Some romance, a touch of thrill (the mirror sequences), a little action (the car chase) and a fair amount of family-oriented entertainment are all wrapped up in this package. The director seems to have accepted that viewer demands have evolved, and created a movie that caters to the center of the spectrum.
In addition, the movie seems to be created to be played just as well on a large screen as on a smart-phone. The big screen (where I saw this) is filled with details if only one looks. The Chinese Dragon festival was full of color, and the high-voltage lab with tesla coils had all the detail to make it real and engaging for a physics nerd. At the same time, the action was focussed so if the details cannot be made out because of screen size, the story does not suffer.
In all , worth a viewing. Maybe not one to keep, but I do look forward to the sequel.
