So after all the hype of the past 15 months it all came down to this:Was this worth the wait?. Well the answer is a resounding "Yes"! I saw this last night and was at the edge of my seat throughout most of it. Even the laid back scenes were excellent. My one slight annoyance with the film as when Stallone battled Austin. I'm not going to give anything away, but I would have liked a different end to that fight. Leave it at that. Otherwise it was downright awesome with a capitol "A". All great action stars together at last including the all to brief scene with Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger, which was something all of us action fans have waited decades for. One can only hope the sequel has a longer amount of screen time between the three. Many surprises along the way, incuding a great aerial combat scene that I didn't expect. Statham is a true action star who can stand alongside with Sylvester Stallone. Jet Li was great as well as funny, Dolph was a little marble mouthed through the whole thing as a sort of lost soul, but he played his part very well. Randy Cotoure seemed to have the smallest role , but he played it great, which impressed me. Terry Crews was his usual crazy self and fit right in perfectly. Even Mickey Rourke gave a fine performance as their friend and non-combatant. But it all boils down to Sly, who turned in a great actioner from start to finish. Even the explosions made sense, not just random things blowing up with bodies flying through the air. It all made sense!Run to go see this , if you love the genre. This was a return to manly movies, without slack jawed wimps playing the parts of heroes. No one here was getting in touch with there so-called "feminine" side. They were just a bunch of tough guys kicking ass!!!

Couldn't wait to see this movie... thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I could have done without the water torture scene... in the grand scheme really quite mild, but I'm not big on torture scenes of any kind and I don't see where it added anything to the movie. But that was just a hiccup... absolutely loved the action. I was hootin' and hollerin' right along with everyone else. Very entertaining... which is why I go to the movies. (And I can't wait to see RED.)

Nobody expects a thick plot or a heavy amount of character development in a non-stop action movie; and if you do, you should not be watching action movies.
The action was high-impact with well-choreographed fight scenes, and there is a good amount of screen time for each of the stars -- which is hard to do with EIGHT of them in this movie. The cameos were also fun to see. Perhaps these cameo actors can be featured with larger roles in future "Expendable" features?
The only "downfall" to this film is the abundant use of computer-generated blood, explosions, and fire. But shoot, if the studio payed-out for standard fake blood, the budget would have at least gone up twenty-five percent.
This is not a necessarily a good "date" movie; but if your date enjoys EXPLOSIONS, hostage-extraction, knives of all sorts, and the beating of cowardly men that abuse women, well it makes for a good time out-on-the-town.

Review – ‘The Expendables’ Rated R Overall Rating: ***stars (out of 4)
This movie is exactly what you would expect it to be. It has an amazing line-up of stars, action throughout and a premise that is as classic as it is cliche'...but it all works. You can credit Stallone's intelligence behind the camera for crafting a head-to-toe thrill ride complete with cameos, carnage and comedy.
Those of us who grew up watching the 80's action films have been looking forward to a movie like this for many years and I, in particular, have been excited for The Expendables for well over a year. I remember reading the weekly casting notices online as one big name after another, was added to the film’s roster of talent. I and many others were getting more and more excited for this movie as the weeks went on, culminating in a fever pitch. And to have finally seen it and enjoyed it, was a grand experience.
I was not going into the theatre expecting anything less than over the top action and zany one-liners; and for the most part, I got exactly that, along with some heart. The heart was provided by Mickey Rourke in a brief, but memorable role as a member of Stallone's team who is having doubts about his life's work and the existence of his soul after years of violence-for-hire work. He has a monologue in one scene that is truly a joy to watch; a real actor at work. Rourke rules. Eric Roberts was also a standout for me as the film’s villain: an ex-CIA operative gone rogue in a small island off the gulf of Mexico who muscles the island’s weak general into producing Cocaine while destroying a once beautiful country.
The Expendables is fun from beginning to end with the outrageous amount of action and blood we have come to expect and enjoy from a summer popcorn movie. It is gratifying to still see Stallone running, grunting and fighting after doing this for almost 30 years; the man is truly a marvel. And that scene featuring cameos by Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger, although silly at moments and shabbily acted is still a delight for the kid in me who idolized Schwarzenegger and yearns to see him back on the big screen. Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren and several others round out the cast and do a fine job for the most part; Statham being the best actor of the bunch.
All in all, I was not let down by The Expendables and I am sure we will get an inevitable sequel, a prospect Stallone himself said he is interested in making. I just hope that in the next one Stallone can convince other action icons like Steven Seagal, Kurt Russell, Van Damme, Chuck Norris and while you’re at it, Wesley Snipes to join the cast. That would be awesome.

Ladies, don't let the brodeo turn you off. Speaking as one who was just as inclined to spend the afternoon with Julia Roberts, I can safely guarantee Expendables is the choice you will not regret. Though it promises violence, explosions, one-liners, and of course the necessary Sausage Fest Mullet Rock soundtrack, it delivers this and much more. Fight choreography is unparalleled and each member of the team contributes a real and human performance, especially Rourke and Statham. Cameo appearances delight and the plot does not leave the audience wondering how such events are plausible as shoot-em-ups so often do. Stallone creates a highly enjoyable experience in a fairly credible world. But let's face it: you're not going to see realism, are you?
My one complaint? Jason Statham wearing too many shirts. Real talk. Throw us a bone, Sly.

I had been waiting for this movie for months. I'm so glad I got to see the first midnight showing for it! First off, the story was pretty predictable (which I expected). The real draws were the totally badass cast and brutal, hard-hitting action scenes, of which there were many excellent ones. 5 stars for being a total testosterone rush (and for the guy who "wants to run for President').
