This marks the first time in 41 years I ever cried in a public movie theater. Stunning performances by Mo'Nique and Gabourey Sidibe (Precious), Oscar-worthy to say the least. Impressive cinematography, with an almost 'home-video' feel to it. Definitely a must-see in my opinion, but go with a good friend(s) and plan for quality time afterwards to unwind.

This film tears at your inner soul to know that there are families and young people who go through this sort of depravity! It is not a movie for the sheltered or people who perfer to bury their heads in the sand. I hope they recognize this film come Oscar time, so many times we do NOT like to deal with the ugly side of what happens in our own backyards and tend to sweep it under the rug. DO NOT sweep this under the rug, Monique and Gabi deserve to be fully recognized for their work. Lee Daniels needs to be FULLY recognized for bringing this heart wrenching story to us.

This movie was outstanding! Highly recommended - but not for children (mature adults only), because it is rated RRRRR!!! Although it was fiction, we all know these things do happen in everday life for real. People try to hide it, but it happens, and it needed to be seen to make us all aware. I am not crazy about this movie like most people have been, but the guts of the story are what makes it unique. Never before has there been a film that truly exposes the lifestyles of poor Black families on welfare. Poverty is synonymous with abuse in many different forms. That in and of itself is not what is so shocking, rather the idea and portrayal of it on the silver screen. Maybe this film will help some people understand why some Black people struggle so much with progression. It all starts in the home. The acting is superb across the board. If Jennifer Hudson can get an Oscar for singing a remade song, certainly Monique should get the Oscar and recognition she deserves for a worthy & outstanding performance.

"Precious was a movie that runs all your emotions high, happiness, sadness, disgrace, and anger, but a reality and eye opener. I fear that if someone came out of this movie angry it will be because possibly that they at one time too suffered one the same type of abuses seen in the movie. Hats off to Oprah and Tyler Perry this brought out many types of abuses that many families not dare tell or talk about. This was an excellent movie. Tyler and Oprah did it once again. Hats off to them and the cast. The actors were all great and the young lady who played the charactor, Precious, was phenomenal. It was funny and touching and just a real eye opener to what is probably a reality to someone out there. This movie shows that if one person cares enough, it could change a life for the better. All I can say is that I went to a theater where the audience had a love affair with yelling and screaming at the screen. It was a little troubling and took me out of the moment at times. The one interesting thing that came out of my night is that the film was so moving that it moved the crowd to complete silence. The acting was outstanding. Monique did her thing.
I want to say I enjoyed the movie however the plot was so intensed and very deep.
Over all, I give the movie a 10...

The book was very graphic and depressing and there wasn't much of an ending as far as I was concerned. The movie though was pretty close to the book, but not as graphic. They did manage to put in a few light and even funny moments so that it wouldn't be so depressing. I thought overall it was well done and just showed how resilient she was in spite of everything. I only wish there wasn't a handful of theatres showing this film.
Monique and Gaborey (sp?) played the heck out their roles and so did Paula Patton & Mariah Carey.
