Elysium was Matt Damon's answer to Ben Affleck's Pearl Harbor. The script was so schlocky and patronizing. In 2154, French speaking rich people live on an orb that's shaped like the Mercedes Benz symbol and all the Spanish speaking poor people live on earth in squalor and are somehow unable to stay clean or avoid stealing from each other... If the director really wanted to drive home a more accurate and interesting message, he should have had all the rich folk on elysium speaking Chinese. The heavy handed childhood flashbacks KILLED ME. The list of issues goes on. Ugh, I'm mad that I even paid money to see that last night.
All I can say is that I went to a theater where the audience had a love affair with yelling and screaming at the screen. It was a little troubling and took me out of the moment at times. The one interesting thing that came out of my night is that the film was so moving that it moved the crowd to complete silence. There were stunningly memorable points in the film that make it worth watching.... go see this film
