waste your money like I did. I went with 2 friends and 1 fell asleep! This was nowhere near the original, and for the younger generation who may not have even seen the original, it certainly had no legs to stand on it's own either. Bad cast, bad acting, bad effects (they were better 20 years ago), and just plain BAD.

I saw this movie at the midnight opening. I knew going in, that this was not going to be anything new in "Nightmare" series. I thought they should have kept the setting in Springfield and not Springwood but, other than that, it kept up with the original. I liked that it didn't try to re-invent the original. I am going to see this movie again Saturday. The ending was a great way to keep it open for more Nightmare on Elm Street sequals. As a fan of the horror genre and of the Nightmare on Elm Street movire, I fully enjoyed this movie.

I've been a Freddy fan since I was 9... that's over 20 years, and I thought this one was awesome! The very first one was scary but then the series turned more camp fun/comedic. I liked that for what it was, but this was truly dark and more true to what a child torturer/murderer would really be like. I guess you could say that the scary parts were predictable, but that didn't bother me at all. I think the new Freddy looked awesome, I really liked how the back story was more developed than before, and this story was way more cohesive than the original series. In 1984 Wes Craven made a movie that he didn't know would go on to become a franchise. In doing so, there were huge gaps in the story line throughout the whole series. I mean, it wasn't until Freddy's Dead that you learned the whole story behind Fred Krueger, and even then it was cheesy and unrealistic. I 'm more scared by realism than fantasy personally. I thought this movie had a few bad acting moments but none that ruined the movie. I thought it was good enough to see again, and I can't wait for a sequel or two. The ending did happen kinda quickly, but the back story was so well developed and so rich, that I feel I know more at this stage in the story line, than I did after all 7 original movies. This one also had all the killer pieces from the original series. For example, running through a bloody hallway, falling through the bed, the glove coming out of the bathtub, the boiler room scenes, the coming out of the wall scene, the going outside during a dream to then bring Freddy into the house scene, I mean they just included so many of them that it remained true to the original series, but with a fresh twist and a new cast. Definitely go see this new nightmare. Robert England will always be the original Freddy, but Jackie Earle Haley rocked it. With a new look, a new glove, a new voice, and new stories, I'm excited as a true Nightmare on Elm Street fan for the future of this franchise. "Wake up! You're bleeding!" "Why are you screaming? I haven't even cut you yet!" Good stuff...

This movie was terrible. Good thing I had low expectations when seeing the movie. This movie would have been better if they came up up with new ideas instead of imitating the original. Freddy's face was a disappointment as well. The ending was cool... If they could have looped that for the whole movie it would have been better. I would wait to watch it on DVD and don't buy it, rent it.

overall I think the movie was a success. The new Freddy is great! Very creepy indeed! It stayed with the true storyline, only straying for an updated version. A few things could've been done better.

The original movies are my favourite all time horror movies and so I was on the fence about this being remade. Have this mindset going in I was proven that it is possible to make a decent remake of a classic, unlike some that we have seen over the years.
There were things I disliked of course. The movie overall felt too Freddy-less as it could have been. There were lots of micro-flashes, but the overall torture I felt could have been more encompassed. The death scenes were unoriginal. As soon as I saw the same ones being used from the original, for the most part, there was no guessing on how Freddy was going to kill his victims. The characters felt rushed in and out and needed some more longevity them. Bringing in more classmates was a great idea, but they were already killed off before our movie had even started.
I did enjoy the look of how burned Freddy was, even down to his shirt with burn holes. The new little twitch his gives the gloves are great. The way the writers brought in all the new research of sleep deprivation, insomnia and the mind after the body is killed keeps living for an additional seven minutes was truly bravo. "When you die the brain stays active for an additional seven minutes. We still have six minutes together. Let's not waste any time."
The Freddy background was well sculpted and enjoy seeing more background than having to wait until the fifth installment. Though they did bring it up fully in this remake do to the fact that people already know the history and people are impatient nowadays.
I would recommend this movie to others, but don't expect to see anything too original in death scenes.

Typical Horror not Epic as it could have been, its 2010....make the movie rich and emotionally driven and then scare the crap out of us. This was way to technical, thus took away from the psychological fear factor. The movie started making you jump to soon and the characters need more development. Freddy is more than a slasher that appears in your dream he is a FEAR that causes you not to sleep (the movie only discussed it). The movie all happened to fast (like a text message) it was dry and lacked the "unique intensity" in Freddy Kruger. I did'nt dig the dry face of Freddy either (personal). Ending was so fast that it was almost in one scene. True Freddy fans will support, new fans will never get the Epic status of a Icon who plays with the psychie of millions of Gen X'ers right before they go to sleep!!! B or 3 starrs.

I have always been a freddie lover.. As a young girl they used to actually terrify me and I would not want to go to sleep.. This one, I sept like a baby.. Dont get me wrong I loved the movie,, it just was not as scary as the originals.. Wes Craving I believe did the best job on creating a movie that would really make you not want to sleep. I believe that Robert Englund was the best freddie ever. He just has that scary look about him even as himself. But overall this movie was pretty good. I would say see if for your self.

OMG well what i want to say first is that this movie wasnt good at all and it wasnt scary either i think that the only parts that get you scared is when the actors are screaming but "Freddy" wasnt scary at all. I think that this movie would have been much better with the originally Freddy because he plays an awesome role and he does tend to get me scare more than the new one. If i had to say anything more about this movie is to get the Real FREDDY back because without him this movie is not A NIGHTMARE ON ELM ST.. thats all i have to say about this movie..

I feel bad for the people that go to see this movie and have never had the oppurtunity to see the original. The first Nightmare on Elm Street succeeded in generating actual suspense and fear, while this version simply employs cheap scare tactics that are predictable and simply not frightening. Everything about the first movie trumps this one: better Freddy with a better voice, better special effects (note: special effects cease to be "special" when they are over the top, computer generated effects), better actors and characters, better climax. Speaking of characters, I find it laughable that actors and actresses in their mid twenties are playing high school kids. Lame, brooding, generic, over-acted high school kids. This movie could have been a whole lot better if it would have further explored Freddy's transgressions, the director did a terrible job of making me hate and fear the knife fingered antagonist. Don't waste your time seeing this movie, its a joke.

This only brings up the question that many of us wonder: why can't Hollywood go back to producing original films?
While I may have liked past horror remakes -specifically Rob Zombie's Halloween, and Marcus Nispel's The Texas Chainsaw Massacre - I was quite disappointed in how this one turned out. My idea of remakes is this: you either try to make a film tribute on the same calibre as the first, or supersede it. This did neither.
First of all, it lacked any type of development or build-up in terms of storyline. If you're looking to get right into the gore fest, then this is your film. Right from the start, it's pretty much Freddy's glove meets flesh. Sure, it has the jumpy moments one expects from horror films, but there's no true horror happening. It reminds me of a quote I once read that hinted horror is not about what is shown (i.e. gore), but rather what we don't get to see - what's lurking in the shadows (maybe Peter Cushing?). It's what we get from Craven's 1985 masterpiece.
You also don't have much character development. The teenagers had no semblance of normalcy through the film. Again, we dive right into their "crazed" personalities, rather than see them develop this fear of a man with the "weird hat, and red and green sweater" who "uses these knives". And don't even get me going on this Nancy - they didn't do great casting on this one.
The only good things about this film were the suspenseful jumpy scenes. Jackie Earle Haley also did justice to our beloved Krueger by outperforming the whole film.
I wasn't expecting this film to be the greatest of all the franchises, but they had potential to take the story somewhere. The only reason I would recommend this to a friend is because my friends enjoyed it, and I can tell others would. I usually give movies like this a chance for pure entertainment value, but even movies like those live up to their purpose.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

The story changed a little, the jokes and face were different - but the new Freddy tried to live up to the old (I'm biased and partial to Robert Englund :) ). But besides that the movie was scary, explanatory and made great use of old tricks with new special effects. The upgrades to computer technology made the visual effects spectacular. I would recommend to any Nightmare on Elm Street fan, old and new.

I'm a huge fan of the original series so, when I heard a remake was being made, I prayed that they wouldn't goof it up. My prayers were answered. The new Freddy was frightening with his burns, voices, and his past story, which is different from the original. But this past shows why he's targeting a group of kids, which makes sense now. The scares made me jump every time, even when I knew something was coming. Even when I was suspicious (thinking the character was still sleeping), I was still scared. Yes, they used a lot of scenes from the original but they were still terrifying. People, don't compare it to the original because you will probably get disappointed. Just go and watch the movie as if it's a stand-only movie; that way, you'll enjoy it even more

They pulled the scariest elements from other Elm Street movies. So if you saw them as a child and had nightmares about certain scenes, there's a good chance this movie will remind you of them. It had a good mix of suspense, jumps, gore and terror. The only problem is how different the new Freddy looks - he'll be a different kind of scary for the kids who watch it today, but I couldn't help but think he was wearing a fake mask, only because I felt I knew how the real Freddy looks. I also didn't like how much they focused on parts of the background story that were never focused on before. I was definitely scared though, and I don't scare easily!

Jackie Earle Haley was the only good thing about this movie, otherwise it wasn't worth the money I paid and the paper the tickets were printed on. Wow, someone needs to send a message to Michael Bay and his motley crew urging them to take some time when they remake a movie. This did the original movie no justice what so ever. Freddy was not scary, the dream sequences were predictable and lame, and they only employed the "I'm going to jump out at you to scare you method". It's funny how Wes Craven only had $10,000 to make the original, which turned into a cult classic and Hollywood today has millions to churn out cliched pieces of garbage. Save your money and wait for the rental. The new Freddy's only success was to make me slightly uncomfortable. GET IT TOGETHER HOLLYWOOD!

Floating in and out of nightmare dream sequences. Teenagers run around confused. Nothing much more than that.
Freddy is at his best as Haley, but something is missing. I can't exactly tell what it is, but this movie seems to be trying to cash in on the concept of "Elm Street". I liked him better as Rorschach. Could have been SOOO much more, but falls very short.

The 80's is still where it's at. The original series is still better then what they try to do with the remakes. This was strait forward and the gore does live up to the reputation however, It's another attempt to scare you with pop ups and loud noises for the ladies to scream. I did not jump one or was I remotely scared. This one did not get into your head just more or less your in the theater for ambiance. I would not recommend this to anyone until time to rent. Don't waste your time or the $11 to get in. One last thing, if you have seen Watchmen the comic book movie, Then you will notice that Freddy played by Jackie Earle Haley also was Rorschach. So it didn't help that every time he spoke in the movie it sounded just like Watchmen.

The new Nightmare on Elm Street was a great re-vamp of the original series. It brought a modern touch/twist to the classic movie series. The new portrayal of Freddy(Jackie Earle Haley) was done very well, especially with the voice. The story line was smoother and the special effects and acting were far superior from the original, especially the scenes that were updated from the original. A few predictable jumpy moments and at least one unpredictable one. Of course there is the set up for the sequel in the end however I hope Hollywood knows when to stop this time. The only complaint I had wasn't really wasn't specific to this movie its Hollywood wide. Why do 30 year olds play high school students? It may not become a following like the original series, especially with all the competition(Saw, Friday the 13th, Final Destination) but it is a great re-take the original. Don't wait for the DVD its a perfect date movie!

This is this generation’s Freddy, take that for what you will. Most will balk at the loud, jump scares and the lack of the wild dream scares like tonguing Nancy through the phone, but even the most jaded horror vets will appreciate one thing about this remake of the 1984 slasher classic. And that is, A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010) puts the “monster” back into Freddy Krueger. Freddy could only be an icon from popular culture, and that makes him generational, so the classic glove and sweater have jumped ship from Reaganomics into a post-Columbine Massacre, post-9/11 society, and he has brought at least one thing from the 1984 film, and it’s the most important thing: He’s scary once more, making a solid reason why kids won’t want to sleep again.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
