See Avatar in Imax 3D - the ONLY way to fully enjoy the Avatar experience! Simple themes but conservatives beware - this movie parallels many modern political hot buttons and the liberals shine while the corporate and military characters lose. The scenery was truly amazingly beautiful, the land, trees, including the creatures. How the the Avatars fought/hunted. There are sad moments and even furious moments too, all emotions are played in the movie.

The CGI is what makes this movie. The story line is a bit droll and reminded me of a score of other movies I have scene throughout time. The commendations for this movie go to the special effects, techniques, and the vision of the director. The storyline is not complex at all. I enjoy movies that you can watch multiple times and still pull something from the movie, this is not one of them. This movie is fun though and interesting to watch as it does introduce new technologies. Bring alcohol rub to clean your IMAX glasses or risk pink eye.

I had high expectations for this film from the beginning however, it absolutely exceeded my expectations. The cinematography of this film completely captivated my attention and held it for the entire 2hrs. 40mins.! I absolutely loved the movie and would see it again, and again, and again!!

This movie may not be for everyone, there are some strong messages present in this movie and if your not going to be open, or if you seriously toe the line of the conserves you shouldn't see this movie. However, we're talking special effects that are more spectacular in IMAX 3D. The message of the plot, I feel, is definitely a message we all need to hear. I think James Cameron is a genius for this movie and am hoping there will be more of it's kind coming soon.

The special effects were cool, but this movie completely and falsely disparages the Marine Corps. The movie was OK prior to that, although I didn't get what all the hype was about. Anyone who supports our soldiers, especially those Marines on the front lines, will regret spending a dollar on this. The characterization of our military is completely disrespectful of the fact that Americans are currently overseas fighting two wars to keep all of us safe. Hollywood cannot be this out of touch.

Worth seeing just for the visuals. The sound in iMax is also incredibly good. However the plot is a rehash of every indigenous people versus technological modernization that has ever been made. Imagine Dances with Wolves on a far away planet. I won't spoil the end by saying who wins. The characters are walking clichés. The dialogue was predictable. I kept waiting for something unexpected. Suffice to say, nothing original came along.

I was a bit skeptical prior to seeing this movie only b/c I am not one to watch sci-fi movies. But this movie was better than i expected. The story was a bit predictable but overall the movie was fantastic! Highly recommend for those people who have not seen it yet! I went to see it at the Imax theatre and it was phenomenal!

Aside from the stunning 3D effects the storyline is kind of a mis-mash between Starship Troopers, Dances with wolves, The Last Samurai, with a little Alien for flavor.
It is a fairly heart warming story but quite predictable. Hardened man has a job to do that is distasteful, meets one of the entities he is supposed to help destroy and is convinced by them that he really shouldn't destroy them and takes arms against the other side.
The acting is actually quite good despite the animations and such. The avatars are actually quite amazing. Realistic to a fault. The 3D was a lot better than I expected.
I don't normally go for such blatant fantasy films but this one surprised me. The writing was fairly good and consistent.

I'm sure that IMAX 3D enhanced the experience, but basically I thought this was an excellent movie no matter what the viewing medium. A good story well told, with excellent acting and incredible special effects. It's a long time since I've been so completely absorbed in a movie. I'd recommend it to anyone. Bring on the sequel!

Although I agree that there are many similarities with other movie lines (what movie doesn't have that nowadays?), I still enjoyed it. I saw the 3D version in December; and just went again on 2/28 with my girlfriend and saw the IMAX 3D version. Definitely worth the extra buck for the IMAX version. Incredible! It was breathtaking in its creativity, scenes, special effects, innovative and seamless in joining computer generated with real to make it all seem real. A couple of the characters were not developed but really were not all that critical to the plot. They started out significant and then fell away. Sigourney Weaver was a little too much in the beginning, but her lines/part got better. all in all a terrific movie. Main characters were fantastic

I give James Cameron high marks for creating another world in magnificent detail, but he really should have hired himself a screen writer. No one in the movie says anything new, memorable or of any substance.
Giovanni Ribisi was completely miscast as the corporate villain. Someone like Gary Oldman would have made the roll more interesting.
I really like Sigourney Weaver as an actress, but this roll didn’t meet up to ability. She really seemed to be going through the motions to collect a check on this one.
Overall it was entertaining, which is why you go to the movies. I just wish I didn’t feel like I just consumed a lot of empty calories.

We very much enjoyed Avatar IMAX 3D. The visuals were breathtaking and the IMAX screen plus 3D made them even more convincing. However, we found the soundtrack repetitive, the story line and characters predictable. The movie lives up to its hype, but not our expectations of James Cameron and the incredibly vast sum of money spent on this production.
Technically Avatar is a stunning achievement. Judged as a well-told story we find it lacking. Doubtless it will rightfully garner many Oscar awards for technical achievement. It is otherwise, not best (fill in the blank) material.

I loved this movie. Seeing it in 3D, it's breathtaking and certainly exciting. I am not kid, I'm approaching 60. Some have said it's for young people, but I don't agree with that. Some have also said it has taken a lot from other movies. I did see some similarities to the movie The Emerald Forest, actually. But that movie wasn't science fiction. However, the world in the Avatar was rather like the Amazonian Rain Forest in Emerald Forest. Nevertheless, it is worthwhile. Great entertainment. And for younger people seeing it, maybe it will get them thinking about the way our civilization has tended to impose ourselves on indigenous peoples.
