While the movie looked nice, It's just Dancing With Wolves" on another planet. Maybe I'm expecting more from a movie that cost almost 1/2 billion dollars. The computer genterate Na'vi were more believable than the live action characters. Steven Lang's character was so flat that, even though you knew the good guys were going to win, you couldn't care if he lived or died.
Many people have been stating that this is such a great movie and James Cameron is such a great director, I would disagree. Maybe when he can come up with a movie that has a unique, well thought out story, maybe I can begin to believe them.

Great special effects. Very entertaining. Preachy movie and full of cliches. Well acted. Well directed. The pace was good and the movie did not feel as long as it was. I saw it with my younger son and he did not notice the movie being too long. The script, however, was pretty stock and unoriginal. Full of cliches done fairly well but predictable none-the-less. Thank God for the technology. That was the highlight of the movie. So life-like and convincing that the CGI I accepted the CGI characters as the same as the non-CGI characters. The script let it down. Very predictable. Has Cameron become the new George Lucas (but a better director)?

Excellent technical effort. The movie borders on being an immersive experience. The underlying ideology is somewhat immature and represents a typical new age fantasy (the romance of the noble savage, pantheism, etc.), but the good guys win, the bad guys are defeated, the disillusioned cripple gets a second chance at life with a princess. Go see it and enjoy it, it's a quick 3 hours.

This is so far the best movie I have ever seen. The story is original. The characters are well developed. And the visual effect is stunning and beautiful. Although this movie is projected on 3D but it doesn't have any 3D scenes (arrow shoots at your face, etc...). However, it gives you the feelings of roller coaster ride, fantastic!

I watched Avatar in 3D-IMAX twice.
First time myself, second time entire family.
Every one enjoyed it a lot.
Greatest visual feast as a movie.
The main plot actually is pretty simple with the usual liberal politically correct stuff.
But if you see past that flaw (if you count that as flaw) then this is perfect.
It would worth every dime you spend.
There are three version out there, regular, 3D and IMAX 3D. You want to see the IMAX 3D version.
Enjoy.

Avatar is the movie you won't want to have to say in 10 years "I never saw it", and watching it in 3D or IMAX 3D is worth going back for. I loved it both times. A great all around experience.

Incredible visual experience well worth seeing, but trite story packed with clichés and dialog to match.
"Dances With Wolves" with a twist.
But never mind, it was eye candy to the extreme. James Horner's score was among his worst too. You could hear echoes of "Titanic" and "Dances With Wolves" in it.
Clearly he wasn't stimulated to do his best.
Still, Cameron is a genius at producing popular entertainment embraced by mass audiences.
Rent Synedoche, N.Y if you wan to see a really strange but exceptionally well done movie! Just don't expect to understand what's going on until it's almost over...

Excellent movie, my husband and I really enjoyed it. The 3D was unbelieveable...backed up in my seat a couple of times thinking I was going to get hit by flying objects. I cannot imagine seeing it in anything but 3D IMAX..

Pay for the IMAX, it was great and worth it. Virtually no flaws in the 3d effects. So much better than the trailers can show it. Practically no boring parts as you usually have in a movie this long. There is an environmental message, but so much action, conflict, and other plot material that it doesn't get "preachy". However, it doesn't get confusing. Also has a great ending - don't worry, I won't spoil it.

After you see the first 10 minutes in IMAX 3D, you will wonder why you would want to watch a movie in any other format. The movie itself was hugely entertaining and enjoyable to watch. Combined with the IMAX 3D format, this movie is easlily the best we have seen in years. You should hurry to see it before it leaves the theaters. Congratulations to the film makers.

One of the best movies I have ever watched. The themes in the movie were extrememly well done. The CG was the most seemless I have ever experienced. This could be the subject of study in a American history/government class.

This is my third time at Avatar but my first IMAX. Just awesome, the sound and picture quality are fantastic. Well worth seeing again and standing in line early for the best seat. Make sure you book, I couldn't get in at the Pacific Science center and the AMC IMAX was sold out for the 8th week running!!

Visually, this movie is stunning. I waited to see it in IMAX 3D.
Go to see this for the special effects and the "personal relationships" in the story and try to ignore the standard "evil corporate military complex" garbage. Why does Sigourney Weaver always end up battling evil corporations on other planets? The plot is a mix between Pocahantas & Fern Gully, but set on another planet.
It will be interesting to see if this 3D is a passing fad, the wave of the future, or something to be saved for movies truly deserving of the effects.
Cameron stole some old props - many of the aircraft and machines look like the ones from Terminator, but with humans controlling them.
If you are succeptable to motion sickness, don't see it in 3D.

Wow the movie was created in a very nice manner upon seeing the trailer i was not much interested. My friends and my wife compelled me for this movie. This movie was great, so great I just paid another $13.50 to see it again in IMAX for the second time last night. With 3D you really feel like you are there taking the journey with Jake Sully (the main character) as he goes to Pandora and discovers a whole new world. the 3D is amazing and I would not see the movie any other way. It is definitely worth the cheddar. Do not, I repeat do not wait to see this on DVD, it will not be the same. This is more than a movie, it's an experience and one you need to see on the big screen in 3D, in IMAX if you can afford it. I guarantee three things: You will laugh, you will cry, but most of all you will enjoy it.

I was not looking forward to seeing this movie because I can't stand science fiction. My son begged me to take him, so I took him. I LOVED the movie!!! I have seen it in 3D and also IMAX 3D. I plan on seeing it yet once more (or more) and DEFINITELY owning the DVD. So even if you don't like science fiction, go see the movie.

I think this movies has the most impressive special effects till now. The music is adds to the visuak effects.
One thing which makes it stand out of the other movies of same genera is that the story has a message of live and let live and a basic 'connect' among the species that share this universe. So even its a futiristic movie, it calls for a level of being closer to nature.
The 3 -D is remarkable.
