This moving was absolutely amazing in IMAX 3D. While the basic story line has been done before, there were enough differences to keep your attention. The special effects made this movie stand out - it was truly one of the best movie experience I have ever had. I do think that if you are going to see this movie for the first time, you should see it in IMAX 3D to get the full experience :)

I enjoyed everything about this movie. I saw it twice in 2D and once in IMAX3D. The graphics were incrediblle. It brought out a wide range of emotion. My twenty something Son loved it and so did my 80 something Aunt. A definite must see. If there is an IMAX near you see it in IMAX

Avatar was a pleasant surprise to me. I expected a movie with some cool special effects, a big battle scene, and no plot... I really though I come out with the movie being an "ok" experience.
I found Avatar to be much more than that.
This movie combined brilliant special effects, with a decent story line (although a bit predictable), and continuous flow of action, to make it an actual experience vs. a couple of hours in a chair. I also enjoyed the fact that the 3-D was not overdone, yet did not seem as an afterthought either.
Truly worth the price of admission.

By far the best sci-fi 3D based movie made, the story is great but as far as cutting edge goes this takes the cake with seamless cgi.
Cameron will be hard pressed to improve on the sequel. I can hardly wait. GO SEE THIS MOVIE in IMAX 3D NOW while you still have a chance!!!!
It's a movie you'll want to see more than once!

after almost 40 years of making the 2001 A Space Oddyssy, we got the opportunity to watch the Avatar as a stunning sci fi movie with high artistic and technical values. the director James Cameron is very successful to convey his humanistic and idealistic ideas to the audience. though it looks that the victory for the 3rd world people is only possible in other planets and you as a human should leave your earthy life to be victorious( remember that the planet pandora does not have normal air to breath) the director uses the biblical concepts and a part of the american history to give his message and through the excellent 3D technique he has no difficulty to make it through.

Superb photography in 3D. Wonderful story, especially the first half. With some better editing, I would have rated it a 5. The final battle scene was too long and very predictable. Nevertheless, I enjoy the movie and recommend it.

Most of the critics may spout inflamatory remarks about how this movies plot may be to cliche or used up. I however think that this movie revived the stingy and over used plot of the white hero and pochohontas theme. I give this movie two thumbs up. I have seen it eight times, twice in 2D, once in realD, and 5 times in imax. Only see it in imax! DO NOT WAIT TILL IT COMES OUT ON DVD. IMAX! IMAX! IMAX! GRAPHICS WILL BLOW YOUR MIND.

Avatar was probably the best execution of a Sci Fi theme that I've seen in a movie. A little too much "action" for my taste, but it was able to overcome that with an excellent story and it was able to carry out some the subtleties of the genre that are missing from most current movies. This couldn't have been done even 3 years ago. Cameron deserves kudos for the project. Other than the overabundance of "action" the only drawback is the you've got to see it in IMAX 3D to really see how well its done.

This was my very first IMAX movie I have ever watched. The special effects, especially in the IMAX 3D format live up to the hype!
The story line for me was very predictable, yet it was entertaining to say the least.
I would recommend if you only see this movie once, this is the way to see it.

IMAX 3D...first 3D movie that I would actually rate excellent. Enitre movie is 3D including the end credits. Both my husband and I enjoyed it and if we could we would see it again. It is worth staying in your seat for 2 hr and 40 min.

I went into this movie with excitement, I have wanted to see it for a while with my friend. She really hates movies, so when she came back speaking nothing but how phenomenal this movie was I was even more excited. So we went to the movie, I am a huge movie goer. I got chills at this movie, cried at this movie, dodged some of the missiles that felt like they were flying off of the screen. My eye's widened, I felt her sorrow, her joy, his excitement his struggles. I felt the emotion of the movie, this was by far the best movie I have seen in my life.
The story is typical but its just the graphics are so amazing and truthfully the story was good.Same old boy is torn by right and wrong. If you are skeptical about this movie, go see it.

Although I cringed at the wooden dialogue on the promos, we went to see this. It is a visual spectacle and wonderful technical achievement. Too bad there is nothing beneath this veneer. But I was entertained. White man goes through maiden-induced transformation and acts as savior to savage race, which is in fact, noble and superior to short-sighted, greedy humans. There is a Dick Cheney in there too, except this one is not a cowardly combat-abstainer, only morally bankrupt.

Great story, most amazing technology of any movie i have ever seen. I think it would be great without 3D or IMAX even though that is how I saw it. Cant wait for the sequel. I assume there will be one. Wonderful for older kids and adults. Much to be learned from the Navi people.

This movie has great visuals and audio, but the story was obviously written by a 12 year old. I don't care how much you polish crap, it still stinks. UNOBTAINIUM! Are you kidding me? How did that one make it through punch up number 1? Dances with wolves meets the Lion King. I was waiting for Jar Jar Binks to jump out of the bushes.

This was one of the worst movies, I've seen in several years. You can figure out the plot in ten minutes. The characters have as much depth as a kiddie pool on a hot August day. It seemed that not only the visuals were computer generated but the script and dialog was computer generated, It was one long cliche. They're mining for "unobtainaium" is this a joke? After I figured out the plot I sat through the other 2 hours and 30 minutes. Even the visuals got boring after a while but they were good eye candy for about 20 minutes. With all the hype and reviews, I'm thinking this is a case of the "Kings New Clothes"

The blending or real people and animation was spectacular! The IMAX 3D was way worth the extra money. I am ready to go again soon.

I hadn't seen a 3D movie in a long time, and so it was fun to experience the 3D effects. The creatures were visually interesting with their cat-like movements. The plot was a mix of Fern Gully meets Pocahontas with characters like Thunder Cats. And there were themes and scenes that were reminscent of Dances with Wolves, The Last of the Mohicans, the Matrix, The Last Samarai, Aliens, and Lord of the Rings to name several. I was disappointed in the storyline and dialogue, especially coming from James Cameron. But visually, Pandora had a Disneylike enchanting quality to it, and that was enough to at least keep my attention through the 3 hours.

Honestly, I only go to a theater when I think the movie warrants it (Lord of the Ring trilogy being one).
I did enjoy the 3D very much but was not impressed with the violence in the story. I think they are walking a fine line with the PG-13. Way too much graphic killing whether it's animated or not, it's violent.
I would have much rather seen more character development and more of the discovery of the beautiful plants and animals.

I was ready to walk-out an hour into the movie! I'm not impressed by 3D images flying in my face, a story line that was intellectually unstimulating, and almost 3 hours long, to boot! But then again, I'm not your average Hollywood loving American moviegoer - give me a good low budget, good story line and good (not glitzy) actors and I'm willing to sit in a dark movie theatre and pay money for it. Avatar, never again!

I saw this in Real 3-D and IMAX 3-D. I would recommend seeing it in the Real 3-D. Picture clarity was far superior. Would have loved to have seen it at IMAX without the 3-D.
