I'm not sure I can say much that hasn't been said already about the film, but here are my true thoughts:
If the script is not entirely original, it certainly has some nice touches. That's the worst I can say about this movie - because James Cameron has truly risen the bar of movie making. My jaw was hanging throughout the entire film. They've actually created a world - a beautifully detailed one at that. If for no other reason, this movie is worth seeing simply for the artistic grandeur.
One final word of advice. If ever there was a movie worth spending the extra few bucks on seeing at the IMAX - this is it. It would be a shame to see it anywhere else...

Not being a huge fan of special effects I was pleasantly surprised that I found this movie to be completely absorbing and entertaining, not to mention incredibly beautiful.
Also liked the story line which said something about the need to respect and protect our natural resources whcih are irreplaceable.

This movie was really extraordinary. The technology was amazing. I would definitely recommend seeing it in Imax 3D if you're able. The story is a bit precidictable. But it was still very enjoyable.

Sure the three d and graphics are the best you've ever seen... but I'm tired of Hollywood trying to slide their hidden agenda under the door, and calling it entertainment. I am a Christian and I won't apologize for it. I glady tolerate other views, but this was no more that a new age church service, complete with nature worship. I'm done with movies. Sorry to bum everybody out, but I'm entitled to my opinion.

The most visually stimulating Movie experience i have ever seen since going to the Show the first time in 1968.
iMAX 3D is an incredible technology and worth twice the price of a regular ticket, even though it not.
It is the deciding factor in going out to the Movies, the one aspect few can create in your own home. a Breath taking, enveloping experience you won't soon forget.
While the plot was a bit predictable, the graphics and CGI were incredible.

With all the hype, I thought it would be better. It wasn't a bad flick, but it wasn't great either. The story was a variation of Star Trek IX. The 3D in live action was very good; in CGI action it was fair at best. For a 2 1/2 hour movie, it moved right along, and never got boring, although I don't know why. Possibly because of the chase sceens - not all that original, but they did keep my attention. I suspect they were exciting at the time. Unlike my favorite Sci-Fi flicks (Star Wars 4-6, Matrix 1-3, Star Trek 2,4,11, Quiet Earth, 2001 Space Odyssey, Galaxy Quest, Solaris-1972, Fifth Element, Alien, Star Man) I will NOT be purchasing the DVD. I think multiple viewings will just make it worse - probably somewhere between 2 and 3 stars.

U have to see this in IMAX 3D for the experience - there is nothing like it! The acting was pretty good too. I took a star off for the story line it was pretty much the same old humans destroy everything we touch & boy meets girl combo.

Let me just say this was my 1st IMAX experience and I was blown away. We don't usually go to the movies due to income restrictions. We splurged for this one and went to the matinee.
The commercials and previews of this movie do NOT do it any kind of justice. Those critics who claim it didn't have a "storyline" must have been so overwhelmed by the sheer imagry that they were simply not paying attention. Who can blame them...the graphics were simply the best I have ever seen. It did have a storyline and a good one at that.
This movie is one I would recommend to anyone! It was and is completely worth the trip and cost to see it in thr theater!!! BRAVO!!!

Good news first- stunning & jaw dropping visual effects.
Bad news- lacked a good story. Felt Avatar was a re-tread of Apocalypse Now & Dances with Wolves.
At least 20 minutes of the assault scenes could have been left on the editing floor with zero impact on the movie.
The marketing people for this movie violated an important principle- expectations were set so high, that even a truly revolutionary film release would have struggled.

The plot was like a cross between "Battle for Terra" and "Dances With Wolves". I saw very few plot holes like in Star Trek which was full of them. It made it very believable and enjoyable. The integration of the 3D effects into the 3D instruments was remarkable. After the movie I felt like I had to learn how to walk again.
I highly recommend this movie.

I went into this movie expecting a lot! I have seen other James Cameron movies and enjoyed them all, but this movie is his masterpiece. I was completely blown away by all levels of this film. I have never seen visual effects as realistic and of such grandeur as in this film. Go see this movie at least once, and at least in 3D!!

Great movie for teenagers - adults will be bored after a while. The avatars reminded my husband and I of American Indians and although it was beautfiul to watch, it seemed simplistic and not that original.

This was hands down the most spectaular and visually appealing and amazing film I have EVER seen! How DO they come up with this stuff? From the first moment they landed on Pandora to the very end, I was held spellbound and captivated by this new world. Everything from the plant life, the skies, the characters and critters were new and stunning! The plot was a bit predictable but who cares? I would highly recommend the 3D Imax experience as it pulls you into the film and makes you feel like you are standing next to the action. I was BLOWN AWAY!! This should win LOTS of awards!

I have seen a lot of 3D IMAX movies and this was the most impressive, by far.
I read one reviewer that said he would never pay more than ten dollars for a movie. I would say that Avatar 3D IMAX experience was worth every penny. I wish more movies lived up to the technical hype.
Reviews also said the story line was trite and predictable. I disagree, there was so many creative ideas and thoughts in Avatar. I wish that more movies could reach me in this way to open my imagination.

I saw this movie in 3d at an IMAX, and it was amazing. The graffics were nothing like I had ever seen. The story is great and keeps you intrigued for the entire movie. The Navi were so life-like and when they interacted with the humans, you couldn't tell the difference between the real and fantasy. I would recommend this movie to anyone with an imagination. I will definetly purchase this movie when it comes out on DVD.

Extraordinary movie. Go see it in Imax 3D, its worth the effort. Technology is brilliant but is in its proper role, supporting the telling of a great story. Everything Final Fantasy tried to be but failed :) This is a visually stunning, emotionally engaging and politically powerful statement from a master moviemaker. Awesome.

Nothing too groundbreaking here. The 3-d was great. The new facial capture technique they used was better that the old way of doing it. Plot is below average, to many borrowed lines from Last of the Mohicans and Dances with Wolves... Typical military killing natives storyline.

special effects in 3d were wonderful. Sadly though realistically, the story line demonstrated the aggression and self centered attitude of the human race and it's danger to any other species. It's about time humans are not portrayed as the "victims"when in truth they are the aggressors

This movie is virtually indescribable! Initially blown away by the technology and then sucked into the plot by it. the movie's plot is fairly predictable, but you really don't care, as you are part of it. Having been a fan of sci-fi since the early days of Star Trek this movie may well be the best that can be done short of direct mind transfer. the effects were stunning and the imax 3d was breathtaking. i only hope that the expense of production is not beyond the means of most movie houses and it can used elsewhere. BRAVO.

Kudos to everyone attached to this film! It is by far one of the best movies I have ever seen and I have seen alot!! Everything about it was perfert: The cinematography, the special effects, and CGI was mind blewing!!! The world in which the Na'Vi people lived was the most beautiful and frighten place. I had no idea that the story line was going to be so moving. It is definitely speaks to the might, power, and colonization of any world super-power and what native people will do to protect what is their home! I strongly recommend to see the movie no only in IMAX but in IMAX 3D...it just heightens everything!
