Excellent , movies will not be the same ever again with this technology. Nothing looked created, it felt like you were in the forest. If they could add smells it would have been an amazing experience.
Do not stay home and read these revviews, get off your duff and go see it in IMAX 3D only.
Acting was great and the animation seemless.

James Cameron brought every ounce of the thrill and fun of the Terminator series and all the passion and romance of Titanic to Avatar, then multiplied it by 10. Brilliant execution and a delightful if somewhat unimaginative story line (think Battle for Terra plus $9.9 million) while spanking Dreamworks and Pixar on effects, though I'm dying to see how they catch up. You absolutely must see this in 3D the first time or you'll miss the splendor of the floating mountains and the joyous flight scenes.

I have seen movies like the Terminator series time and time again, but really only for the major action scenes and for the sheer enjoyment of Arnold and his shotgun. However, nothing compares to the scale of epicness that this movie has. Sure the plot becomes a little predictable, and sure it might have elements from other films from way back when, but now a days, what doesn't overlap something else a little? It was visually stunning (the IMAX 3D only makes it more immersive), and it has something for everyone (above the age of 13). Needless to say, simple as the story is, it is a compelling one, and one that has caused me to see this movie three times already, and I plan on seeing it several more times.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

If you want to see this film at all, you have to see it at the movie theater. The visuals are stunning. The story is by no means original, and there are more than a few cliches (it is a James Cameron movie, after all), but if you let yourself "go with the flow", you'll be rewarded. It's not going to win a Best Picture Oscar, but it's definitely raising the bar. The one major flaw for me was the music -- it just did not suit the visuals. When I go to see it again, I may bring ear plugs :-)
Yes, I recommend this movie.

on the screen in all the IMAX 3D glory. Personally I dislike 3D glasses, and don't think it really adds much to the overall story. The movie was deeply motivating. The 3D didn't succomb to the usual, drop your popcorn, scare tactics which was nice. It added depth and was secondary to the beautifully constructed creatures and forest of Pandora. I didn't think it really deserved the pg-13 rating, but what the heck. The most expensive movie of all time will earn its place this year and in everyone's blu-ray library... The transition between live action and cgi blue screen seemed seemless. The characters and creatures seemed to have thought-out personalities. Well done Mr Cameron.

This is a movie to See with a capital "S." It's also worth it to spend the extra $$ on IMAX. Visually stunning and phenomenally imaginative, this was an artist's opus that takes digital graphics to a new level. While the story was predictable, you certainly wouldn't want it to get in the way of the visuals in this film. James Cameron could have come up with a name for his precious mineral more original than "unobtanium," but fortunately for him there wasn't anything else in here that seemed trite. Nicely done. It gets my vote.

There are not a lot of movies of recent where I can easily say "I want to see that again!". It's especially true of movies that are almost 3 hours long.
This was a masterpiece 10 years in the making.... and every minute of it showed!
James Camerron is a movie making god! We should all bow down in recognition of his cinematic talents!
The movie itself was incredible... you know from the start what the end is going to be.... but the journey to get there is epic.

It was a completely different world that Camaroon has took us. I was awestuck at his ability to create a whole new world with various kindof people, animals, trees, and most importantly a new language. Though sometimes we realize that all these never gonna happen, but nevertheless a great movie worth every peeny you spend.

This is a must see WOW! movie! Great 3D special effects and good story line. A little predictable, but then again, aren't most movies? I wonder why Sigourny Weaver always has to play the tough chick in her movies? Much like Star Wars when it first came out in the '70's this movie will do the same for the movie industry. I'm going back again at least 2 more times!

Avatar is one of those movies you are going to go see even if it has bad reviews. The special effects, the hype, and simple fact that its in IMAX is all you need to know to make you want to go see it. Let me tell you all of those reasons are worth while, and on top of it all the movie just kicks butt. The story was good, it kept you involved, explained the story, and made you want to know what was next. This was probably my favorite movie going experience this year. I would recommend this movie to anyone and everyone.

I left the theatre thinking that this was the most amazing movie I had ever seen but was trying to keep my enthusiam under raps. Then as I entered the women's restroom, there was a woman all alight shouting THAT WAS AMAZING! She said it all with the same depth of emotion I was feeling. See the movie preferably in IMAX 3D. The 3-D Imax was impressive but slightly distracting in the first 10 minutes when the director was slowly introducing the characters. However, as the plot developed away from the human environment, the 3-D effects became a given element and allowed me to enjoy the stunning views and the spectacular effects. Yes, the story was a bit predictable and the dialogue was weak, but both aspects were better here than they were in TITANIC. One goes to see a James Cameron film to celebrate his vision, not for nuanced character development which was better than most CG-loaded films I have seen. The length of the film was perfect for me, unlike the LOTR trilogy which I also loved. I was not completely exhausted afterwards.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Avatar blew our expectations out of the water! My husband, who is usually fidgety in even a 90-min. movie, was so absorbed that he barely moved, and wanted to see it again immediately. I have never seen such breathtaking beauty in a film! The visuals were so rich and detailed that I actually DREAMED about Pandora last night. Yes, the plot is simplistic, but, with the almost overwhelming complexity of the environment, a simple plot was a wise choice. It helped us relate to the Na'vi and reinforced the illusion that Pandora is real, that these are real people filmed in their natural habitat. The movie is such a visual break-through that you NEED to see it the way that James Cameron meant it to be seen: on the big screen in IMAX 3D.
