The story comes from a twisted past present and current timeline. It is almost like they are still trying to get you to like the cast. Enough. I like the cast. The story remains a retread designed to bring the treki in and entice the non or new generation fan. As an old fan I see this as a crutch that the new fans won't get, but I liked it and the twists. Suspend disbelief, don't ask too many questions and go with it.
I liked it and wrapped the movie around me like fine Corinthian leather.
Can't wsi to see if the franchise can hold on to the actors and the fans. Let's have a completely new story next time.
Pros well paced, good character development for tge future, good acting, fun story
Cons move on to making this their own leavevthe past
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Learning that the Hobbit, the least meaty of Tolkien's saga was to be a trilogy dragged out in a way to maximize the movie dollar, caused my enthusiasm to wane a hobbit-bit. It was a good tie in to the LOTR movies to start the prequel. The Shire, the elves, the LOTR cast good and bad was a delight. The action sequences are in your face as I was privy to the IMAX 3D version. (now hunting down a HFR3D venue). My one criticism of the 3D was the 'crap' flying out in a few noticeable places, rather than providing the depth that makes 3D worth the extra effort. I must admit the new villains are funny and scary all at once. The young Bilbo played by the actor who played .. "Arthur Dent" from the Hitchhikers Guide movie was a bit tough to get over. The story was well developed and ended normally as things do end between parts. It will be interesting if not tough to wait for part 2.
If I had a negative, I would say that the PG-13 may be too violent/Intense for younger kids. The wolves are scary relentless for the most jaded of us. I will wait for the extended/blue ray, 3d/dvd editions and not be sucked into collecting the movies early.
Pros great actors, cinematograhy was amazing
Cons set up was a bit disjointed
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Predictable Story, but likeable

Good Story although predictable... The Rocky-esque story provided some heart-string tugs. The acting found Mr Jackman wanted and predictably being upstaged completely by his co-star. The bad guys were inane and a bit disjointed. The special effects could have been better, but were good none the less. I would have rather not seen it for the extra coin in Imax format.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

It was a simply wonderfully imagined version of the book. This was the best movie rendition since the first movie. Very pleased with the final 1/2 chapter and the franchise in total. This is one not to be missed. They should have shown a double feature of 1 and 2 for continuity.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Thor in 3D soaks the public

I liked the effects and the story even though each dragged in key moments. It seems that 10-15 more minutes would have been a better cut. The 3D was tough to take considering the security feature in the glasses blinded me for the last 5 of the movie. They use 3D to charge more for tickets, yet the print was digitally flawed akin to old films of the WW2 era.
IMAX is cheapened by regular theatre complex skimming on screen size. Never see IMAX in Randomly MA. Stick to Jordan's or providence or the Aquarium.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

on the screen in all the IMAX 3D glory. Personally I dislike 3D glasses, and don't think it really adds much to the overall story. The movie was deeply motivating. The 3D didn't succomb to the usual, drop your popcorn, scare tactics which was nice. It added depth and was secondary to the beautifully constructed creatures and forest of Pandora. I didn't think it really deserved the pg-13 rating, but what the heck. The most expensive movie of all time will earn its place this year and in everyone's blu-ray library... The transition between live action and cgi blue screen seemed seemless. The characters and creatures seemed to have thought-out personalities. Well done Mr Cameron.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
