The ensemble acting in this film is spellbinding, led by Colin Firth as the unassuming and very human monarch, King George VI. The reparte between king and vocal coach is poignant, transparent, funny. It's some of the best acting by some of the best actors in the English-speaking world today. You've got to see this!
This is a movie to See with a capital "S." It's also worth it to spend the extra $$ on IMAX. Visually stunning and phenomenally imaginative, this was an artist's opus that takes digital graphics to a new level. While the story was predictable, you certainly wouldn't want it to get in the way of the visuals in this film. James Cameron could have come up with a name for his precious mineral more original than "unobtanium," but fortunately for him there wasn't anything else in here that seemed trite. Nicely done. It gets my vote.
If you know Liam Neeson's work, you'll be impressed with the range he displays in this film that gives him action hero status as well as emotional latitude. While the plot may be a little simplistic in the way Neeson 'gets his man' every time, there is a keen satisfaction to be had when the bad guys get what they are due, and a father's love for his daughter is validated. An edge-of-your-seat, satisfying romp! Go see it!
