We saw it in IMAX 3D. This is one movie that you have to see on a big screen. The teenaged boys in our group have seen it three times now and they want to see it again. I would definitely see it again. Loved the characters, the action, and all of the special effects. One of my favorite movies ever.

if ever there was a movie that was meant to be seen in the imax 3d format it is AVATAR. from start to finish every moment is filled with gorgeous imagery, that will linger in your mind for a long time to come. while the story was predictable, it was the execution of this technical extravaganza that gets an A++. watching this movie in the regular format, would be doing a huge injustice to it, and you would be missing out on one of the experiences of a lifetime. i can safely say that i have never experienced anything so breathtaking in any cinematic medium...

Avatar is a feast for the senses. Explodes 3D/Imax. In a few years, we'll look at this movie as the ONE that started "modern cinema."
I've read some snarky reviews that criticize some of the effects, but please. This is truly amazing. Brilliant.
The story's fine. I like the initiation stuff the best. The Lord of the Rings is the only movie experience that comes close.
This is what Hollywood SHOULD be about. Finally a movie that seems worth every one of its billions of pennies.

The movie is a bit predictable ,but and its a big but the technology more than makes up for the mideocore script. 3D kept my 7 year old grandson reaching out to touch the images floating in front of his eyes.

I saw this movie in 3D IMAX, and i would definitely recommend seeing it that way if possible. The techololgy of this movie was amazing. The story line was good as well. Someone had compared it to Dances With Wolves, and I would say that is about right for the love story plot to the movie. You must go see this movie at least once!

I thought this was an excellent movie. The only thing I would criticize about the story line is the typical big bad greedy corporation destroying the lives of the poor, innocent 3rd world people - okay "out of this world" people. And then, of course, don't forget about destroying the environment in the process. If you put that aside, the special effects and the characters were well developed and interesting. You are hard pressed not to be happy with the ending, as every holiday movie should be. The actors were good, but no Academy award performances. Please don't bring your 5 year old. It has quite a bit of violence, without the blood and guts.

The movie set up at the beginning was brief but explained why they went were they went. The ending was predictable but overall this is a must see movie. The 3D was fantastic. It's 2:40 long and could have easily been over 3 hours without even noticing. A complete joy to watch.

Next to Transformers II, this movie is the ultimate in iMAX 3D experiences. I recommened that everyone goes and sees it at least 3 times. There is just so much to visually soak in. Brilliant colors ans superb effects.

The visuals were by far the best I have ever seen. GO SEE THIS MOVIE ON IMAX 3D! Anyone saying this movie wasn't short of amazing are just trying to bash the hype. This was the first time I felt satisfied for paying 16 dollars for a movie since Dark Knight.

This movie was avertised to the max, and it was worth every penny that we spent to see it in Imax. I will go and see it again and can't wait for it to come out on blu-ray. It was one of the best Christmas presents we gave to ourselves. Thank you James Cameron for another wonderful movie...WOW

I went to see Avatar with high hopes and a bit of trepidation. I had read advance reviews that did not appreciate the story.
I enjoyed the story and the fact that they took the time to introduce us to who the Navi were. By the time the major conflict starts to happen, I had become attached to the Navi. Visually, there are so many incredible scenes even before the battle scenes toward the end.
I also was pleased with the ending. I was a little worried about that after seeing The Abyss (one of the worst endings ever in a movie.)
I am definitely going to see it again.

Great action movie with unbelievable special effects. Plot held up and the characters were believable and interesting. It kept my attention from the opening scene to the close, without pause.
This movie felt like all my favorites rolled up into one. 3D and IMAX were a bonus, but it would have held up as one of the best ever without them. It's that good.

I went in with very very high expectations as many said this was Camerons best ever movie and he had waited a decade for the technology to surface. Plot wise was predictable, and weak considering the length of the movie. But I guess many are watching this for the visuals over storyline, so Pandora did come alive in this movie but I felt the IMAX 3D did not help as it didnt allow me to fully enjoy the lush scenery. I got a headache after the film. 3D should be left with full 3D animations I feel.

This movie is the most beautiful, magical thing I've ever seen on the screen. I have not been a particular fan of 3-D in the past, but instead of just using it as a gimmick, James Cameron has used it in Avatar to make the Pandora world feel real and alive. There is a scene about halfway through that is so utterly beautiful that I found myself with tears running down my cheeks just at the sheer beauty of it. After all the hype, I was a bit afraid that I would end up disappointed, but nothing could be further from the truth. I can't wait to see it again!

Well....this movie had an interesting concept, but was a huge disappointment. Besides the political irony, I left with more questions over lots of weak points in the storyline. 3D added absolutely nothing although Imax is always cool. This bizillion dollar movie was overhyped and I fell for it.

This was such an amazing movie! I loved seeing it especially as a 3D movie, I had never seen a 3D movie before and wouldn't trade the experience for anything. The special effects behind the movie were spectacular! They needed to give us a little more background info. as to why the humans were on another planet, but other than that I was very pleased with it overall and will probably go see it again while it's still in the theaters. :)

The movie was amazing. See it.
The Paramus AMC theater... 2+ hours in a long line off to the side of the lobby, nowhere to sit but the popcorn and candy strewn floor (no thanks). The ticket takers and "ushers" yell instructions as if they were cops doing crowd control.
The 3D glasses were wet (from cleaning) and smudged (from ineffective cleaning).
As usual, the previews were insanely loud. What idiot sets the ear-splitting sound levels for previews?
If you ever have the misfortune of hearing an AMC manager "apologize" for something, what he or she means is "I'm sorry but nobody has any intention of fixing the problem."
Sooooo, great movie! Despite the misery of having to see it at this theater.

I'm 54 years old, and of all the movies I've ever seen (and I've seen tons of them), I'd have to say this movie had to be the finest, ever. No other time have I ever thought., or have been moved to write a review, however this time is exceedingly special. The message, mind boggling special effects, the plot, up close and personal filming, 3D flying, flourescent nature energy integration, etc. all fit cohesively into one thriller of a movie. Great movie! It is a must see on the big screen, especially in 3D ... you will be missing out on a viusally awe-inspiring experience if you just wait to see it on tv or dvd..or even blu-ray. Didn't even feel like it was 2hrs and 40 minutes. Story was good too.

Yes that is an over simplification of the story line, but this story has been told before. However, you're not going to see this movie just for the story. The IMAX 3-D Experience is worth every dollar, and maybe even worth seeing it again especially if you didn't get a good seat the first time. The visual affects that James Cameron uses makes a George Lucas film seem like an elementary school kids science project.. A definite must see and must see again!

It was a visually stunning movie, but the plot line was so off base it boggled the mind. After over a hundred and fifty years the best we can do is strip mining? Please I know the message here was simply "Humans Bad, Corporations Bad, Greed Bad" is that the best Cameran can come up with? How about a film that isn't a political statement but is entertaining instead. I know who am I kidding I guess we should all go out and sing the praises of the "Go Green" movement, on second thought I'll just drive my SUV down to the local Best Buy and get a big screen T.V. to watch movies on rental from now on. James, leave your views off of the script next time.
