This is my first movie review ever. The experience at the IMAX 3D and the perfection of Avatar has motivated me to write one!
The special effects in their believability, beauty and integration with the live actors was beyond any other movie ever! We went last night and are going again tonight!
The best movie I have ever seen in my life!

Excellent movie. Unique blending of actors into computer animation. Definitely worth the little extra to see the movie in 3-D (and even better if you are lucky enough to have an IMAX 3-D version)! Was the most enjoyable time at the movies since Star Wars.

All I can say is brilliant. I was skeptical of the 3D experience and figured it would be a gimmick like addon, but friends it is not. The depth that the 3D adds to the experience is amazing. You simply must see this new experience. I had the benefit of seeing in IMAX 3D which, I'm not sure any other screen would come close.
RUN to see this movie asap this weekend. If you have a 3D theater...order your tickets ahead of time because they are still selling out around here. Have fun and relax your eyes!

If you are planning to watch Avatar make sure you watch it in 3D IMAX, the animation and graphics where amazing and the 3D IMAX screen made them life like and felt as if we were inside the movie.
The story is kind of predictable but the screenplay and cinematography is amazing. The movie is very gripping and it didnt feel like a long movie (which it is for its 2hr 40 mins run time).
I have recommended all my friends to watch this movie especially in 3d Imax whereever availble.

Rarely does a movie so take you in that you will stay in your seat so as not miss a moment. NOT ONE person in the sold-out theater left their seat, despite the almost 3 hours of movie. Riveting colors, effects and story bring you into the world of Pandora. Though somewhat predictable and same good underdog vs. evil money-chaser, there are many other layers to the story which clearly tell of a deeper meaning to the balance of life.

The "Avatar" experience was fantastic but I'm really disappointed that it blew "A Christmas Carol" off all IMAX and 3D screens a week before Christmas. My family has waited until this week to see "Christmas Carol" in IMAX 3D and we're really disappointed. I guess the Hollywood Scrooges ($$$$$) didn't get the point of the Dickens classic! Bah Humbug to all of them!

I have never seen an Imax film before, but I will be going back. It is something everyone should try at least once. The world that was created for this movie is visually, emotionally, and culturally a real, rich world. I found myself continually asking myself what was CGI special effects and what was real footage, I am honestly not sure, which is a first for me. Even in movies with breathtaking special effects there is always the moment of, “wow that almost looks real” in some aspects. I can’t recall a single moment of that in Avatar. The characters are just as rich. Sure there’s moments when you have to suspend disbelief, but I have seen plenty of Oscar contenders that is true of. Simply put, you must see this movie in theaters.

I knew the effects would be GREAT, and they were UNBELIEVABLE!!! I also enjoyed the story although it made me think about how close to reality the violence is becoming. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, especially the dreamworld that the aliens created. I think I'd like to be an alien in the next life!!!! Also, it's a must see at an IMAX 3D!!!

While I won't deny the wizardry on view in this technically stunning film, the story is a badly put-together hodgepodge of elements from other (mostly better) films. Dances With Wolves is the obvious touchstone, Cameron perpetuating the myth of the noble savage in this anti-technology, anti-human screeching polemic. You can also add The Matrix, Braveheart and Hayao Miyazaki's classic animation, Nausicaa in the Valley of Wind, which was much better at pitching an ecologically-sensitive message in an alien environment. And the purpose of ravaging this world is to get a material called "Unobtainium". Really? Unobtainium? That's the best they could come up with. I laughed like a drain. Where's my copy of 'Aliens'? Or, heck, even 'Titanic'.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Gorgeous. I really forgot that the sets were soundstage green screens -- and instead got caught up staring at the aliens' sparkling freckles and ever-so-subtle boob jiggle.
The animators really created poetry in motion.
Epic movies for me get bogged down in too-long ceremonies and boring romantic subplots. This one really breezed along through them. Tight editing. Never a dull moment.
A few lines were eye-roller allegories: George Bush is Bad! Corporations are Evil! -- mostly because it was so excessive. The emotion and authenticity of the Navi -- with their big eyes and expressive lips -- I got to say -- was perhaps even more gut wrenching than even a human actor.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

James Cameron has blown us away again. It must be wonderful to have such a vivid imagination and bring it to life. This movie has something for everyone. The story is very interesting and you become attached and care about the characters. It is a visually breathtaking experience. When it's over -- you don't want to leave beautiful Pandora. The movie plot was predictable and adolescent with the dialogue on a 5th grade level. The Lord of the Rings trriology , by comparison, was far superior in that regard. But the 3-D -/IMAX experience was well worth the cost of the ticket.
I doubt I'd want to see it again or even purchase it on DVD. If you plan to see it be sure to get there early so you are not stuck in seats too near the screen.

Saw Avatar in 3D at iMax - great action, special effects, as advertised. The story line and plot are quite good, although the bad-guy/good guy relationships follow well-trodden ground. While the movie progression is predictable, one could imagine events actually happening at some future date! Acting is better than average. The landscape detail is unbelievably clever and beautiful. The wildlife bends the imagination. Action sequences are startling and well-done, especially the winged creature flight shots. Overall, a great adventure flick - candy for the senses and a great cinematic technical accomplishment. I'll be back for at least a fwe more viewings and will add this one to my library when it comes out on DVD!

This movie really was a stunning visual experience. I would warn that if you have issues with motion sickness or have had headaches with 3D movies that you take something for it before you go. I battled nausea for the first hour and a half because there are so many sweeping camera shots. I almost left but am so glad that I stuck it out! I had heard the story compared to Dances with Wolves, Last Samurai, etc. and while those are good comparisons, the story of this movie really does stand up on it's own. The real reason to see this movie however is for the amazing visuals. I really felt like I was seeing the future of film making.

This movie was a unique experience for me and my girlfriend. The story the special effects and the 3-D format all work in perfect harmony. My girlfriend is not sci-fi fan and wants to go see it again! The movie balances perfectly action with emotional scenes which makes it appealing to everybody. Way to go Jim!!! It was good to see Sigourney Weaver back on the screen; after all she is my all time favorite actress. In a few instances I found the elements in the score that remind me a lot of The Perfect Storm. Not that the score is not great but it was something that I felt sometimes derailed me from this movie and put me back on the Andrea Gail.

AVATAR welcomes the movie goer to experience the story as a character rather than as a spectator. The revolutionary state-of-the-art IMAX 3D Experience connects the movie goer into the 3rd Dimension. Rather than the 3D effect coming off the screen, AVATAR connects the movie goer into the scenes. The story is ageless, poignant and timeless to humanity's global concerns about aggression, boundaries, community, culture, diversity, ecology, environment, exploitation, family, harmony, love, peace, religion, resources, society and war. AVATAR breaks through to a new beginning of the movie going experience. OSCAR will award AVATAR many times over. AVATAR sets the new gold standard. AVATAR can be enjoyed again and again with family and friends.

The visuals were absolutely incredible - to truly appreciate this movie, IMAX 3D is the way to go. You felt a part of the action, and there was so much attention to detail in the rendering of this film. I heard someone refer to it as sensory assult - but in a positive way. Couldn't have said it better.
You may be tempted to immerse yourself in the visuals and not pay attention to the story. Although the story-line is somewhat predictable, it is very timely and handled very well. Sweet without being sappy - great story telling.
Go and lose yourself in this experience and be entertained. Suspend disbelief and experience the wonder of this fabulous film.

Most of the hype concerning Avatar has rightly been about the fabulous special effects. And they are even better than forecast, especially in IMax 3D. Avatar is worth seeing for the effects alone, as movies for years will attempt to match them and will likely fall short. Unfortunately, the plot of the story is rather pedestrian, with 3D characters developed no deeper than the 1st dimension.

Sure, the storyline is "Ferngully" meets "Dances with Wolves," but frankly I liked both of those movies, so that didn't bother me. (Disclaimer: I'm a tree-hugger). Even if I was a strip-mining, Blackwater-supporting (oh, sorry, "Xe" supporting) capitalism-at-all-costs conservative, I think I'd still have been blown away by the visuals in this movie. Literally jaw-dropping. I saw it in 2D first, then saw it in IMAX 3D. I wish I'd have gone to the IMAX 3D first for more of the "wow" effect , but there was still plenty to engage me the second time around.
Fwiw, I wasn't going to see this movie when it was first advertised, but the amazing depiction of Pandora from, almost, the first scene made me happy I got over my initial hesitation.
