Actually, this is a highly entertaining movie. Once you get passed the first 30 minutes or so the movie picks up. It's like a freight train (slow at the start), but once it picks up speed it moves. And "moves" this movie does. It has action, comedy, drama - a "dractmedy" if you will.
I went into the theater looking for a serious kick-tail movie. What I got was a blend of wonderful storytelling. Charcters developed and action happened. This is a movie I highly recommend. Go to the theater with an open mind. Don't expect the radio series, the comic book, or the YV series. Expect something original as far as originality can go with something that has been around for over 70 years.
This movie is a perfect example of thinking outside the box.
What a delightful and fantastic treat. This is truly a story of a hero who discovers who he is and what he is meant to become. Simple, straightforward plot with lots of truths and hidden gems. We should all have a memory tree.
Despite the overwhelming slam from so-called pulitzer prized and award winning critics I went anyway. And I am so glad I had my own wits about me. The late 1960's Speed Racer was an anime - a very beloved anime with lots of fond memories associated with it.
This Speed Racer is an anime. period. Even an occasional anime viewer should have realized that this manificent movie was the cartoon infused with live-action and stunningly beautiful 3D special effects.
The visuals were true art form expressed on the digital screen. The pacing was classic anime with the flare of experienced pulse increasing heart pounding excitement generated editing.
Speed Racer the Movie is not just flash and bang with a puff of smoke on the big screen. it is poetry and art in motion - a glorious tribute to a long ago cartoon.
This is a delicious treat for those who remember seeing Speedy as a kid and those who are just now seeing the Mach 5 in motion. From ages 5 to 105 this is a must see movie to watch and a must have DVD to own.
