The only thing 3-D about this movie was the special effects. The plot and the characters were all one dimensional, predictable and every move was foretold. It might have been good to see when I was 12. As an adult it was boring.

Very cool movie. Good storyline. Great acting. Special effects.... nothing to add that hasn't already been said.
On the planet, we have an image of heaven - or at least some pieces of it. The natives live in harmony with the animals and develop a bond. Sorta like the lion laying down with the lamb. And God (their deity) is in their midst. Just like in heaven. And lastly, you witness someone being born again. Amazingly well done.

Special effects were spectacular...a seemless integration of animation with the real world. The musical score was amazing, the acting superb, the story excellent. I felt like I was actually in this alien world. The only way to see this movie is in IMAX 3-D. I've seen both the 3-D and the regular film and there is no comparison. I can't wait til it is available in DVD. What an experience! I highly recommend it.

My husband and I went to see this movie at his urging. I was not really expecting a good time especially given the over 2 and half hour playing time. Boy was i pleasantly surprised. I loved this movie. I highly recommend this movie to anyone. the storyline was really interesting and the final outcome was not really clear until the very end.

I loved this movie. This was a total movie experience. The story was wonderful, very spiritual, great message, great acting. The visuals, were of course, amazing. I loved how the movie pointed out how the history of the world has revolved around other countries moving in and overthrowing indigenous tribes, trying to destroy their spirituality and enforce theirs, all while exploiting their resources. I especially loved how the movie pointed out that we are all connected and that there is a communication that goes on between us and our planet. Very metaphysically correct and a message that the people of this world desperately need to hear. It is probably a message lost to many movie goers but perhaps it will seep through their unconscious.

While I have seen Avatar in the Imax 3D Experience, the rest of my family has not. I would certainly recommend the movie to someone, but I would warn them never to buy their tickets via website. I paid $14.50 per ticket plus a $1 service charge for the website. We made it to the theater only to find out that the Imax machine was broken. They said they would refund our tickets, which they did at $12.50 per ticket. They couldn't refund the full cost because the $1 is not their charge, and since the Imax was down they didn't have a movie that cost $14.50 that day to refund the whole ticket cost. After much complaining, I received a "free movie ticket" that I think is a racket, because who goes to the movies alone.

Ferngully meets Aliens. A must watch on 3d IMAX!! The story line is classic Dances With Wolves/Titanic but the cinematics was epic. You could feel that this was James Cameron's baby. This kind of movie keeps the movie theater experience alive. No way to watch this on bootleg or at home.

I saw this movie in Imax 3D. It was an awesome experience that stimulated the senses, everything I expected it to be. A previous reviewer related the concept of the story line to the movie "Dances with Wolves". That was basically my statement to my wife when we left the theater. Some reviewers commented on the movie's script being sophomoric or "insulting to their intelligence". My advice would be; "when you see a movie trailer that depicts nothing but high intensity action, consisting of 8 foot tall blue aliens flying around on the backs of pterodactyl type creatures, you might not want to go in expecting to be intellectually stimulated".
Just sit back and enjoy.

I am totally impress with this movie. I waited a couple of weeks on how viewers will rate and so far I have heard nothing but positive ratings. The audio and visual composition were expertly crafted including the story line concepts from synaptic networking between all living things to state of the art military firepower.
The creative design, development, and integration of computer generated imagery (CGI) with well known actors make this movie not only entertaining but also immersive due to 3D integration.

The good news, most fantastic film, graphically I have ever seen. This sets the bar very high for anything else.
The story was below average. I had already seen Dances With Wolves and this was a total rip of that movie. It was the graphics that kept me interested, not the story. Should not get best movie of the year, but should get best Cinimatography and graphic effects.

My wife and I first saw this movie at a non-IMAX 3-D theater and were blown away by it. But since we had also experienced IMAX at Grand Canyon several years ago, we decided to see if there was a difference we could see when comparing normal 3-D and IMAX 3-D. In a word: YES! The IMAX version of this film will pin you back in your seat and never let you up until the credits start rolling nearly 3 hours later. The movie is a visual revelation, an ingenious use of technology to entertain, and breathtaking overall. That having been said, the story is infantile and insulting to the intelligence. So ignore that and bask in a movie experience unlike anything you have ever witnessed.

This was my third viewing. I thought, "Let's try IMAX this time, kick it up a notch." Wrong. I'm kind of old and maybe my eyes aren't as good as they used to be, but in IMAX, "Avatar" was just too much. Too much movement, too much going on filling my field of vision. The CGI was more obvious because, I think, it was spread over more area and thus less dense. And I also did not like the Real D version of 3-D. I had to put the glasses on over my regular glasses and there was a very narrow field of vision compared to the Dolby 3-D I saw the first two times. But I guess if you're young and have good eyes, IMAX is probably great.
