I really didn't know what to expect I haven't seen anything in 3D sense I was very young. but this was nothing like what I remember. maybe it was because it was on IMax. but I felt like I was really in the movie with them! It rocked! I will see it again! In IMax of corse. lol

One word - INCREDIBLE!! It ruined me because now when I see a movie in regular format I will always compare it to the 3-D. The 3-D and all the other special effects are awesome and I enjoyed the ride from start to finish. The story is good and it makes you think.

This is an extremely good movie. It really lives up to all of the hype. The plot is very good, there is great character developnment, and the 3D special effects sometimes make you feel like you are more a part of the movie than just an observer.

I'd heard that the story was trite and full of holes, and the characters were flat and two dimensional, but that ZOMG the f/x and Changing Everything Forever.
Well, they were half right. I think that in order to save this movie I'm going to need 3DiMAX Smellovision or a VR helmet or something. If you're dozing off during the climactic battle scene, then something's wrong.
However, the 3D work was good, with none of the gratuitous 'reach out at the audience to remind them that we're in **3D**' tricks that spoiled earlier works.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

The 3D/IMAX experience with THIS movie was supreme!!! I would recommend the very back row for best viewing (center seats). Contrary to what expert reviews have posted, I felt that this film had a GREAT back-story to match the groundbreaking special effects that were on display throughout! Will the movie win as many Oscars as Ben Hur? No...but in this reviewer's opinion, the film is "a magical event at the cinema". The movie was both daring and playful to the senses and overall, I felt it had a level of spectacular grandeur that is seldom seen on the big-screen any more. Truly, an epic adventure that you will NOT want to miss!! Mr. Cameron...I tip my hat to you sir!

I saw the movie both with and without 3D. So much better in 3D. Highly recommend it. IMAX also added to the experience. Haven't seen a movie twice in a theater ever in my life. WOW!

The effect of seeing this film in 3D Imax was worth every penny! I was pleasantly surprised at the interesting plot, as well. I wasn't expecting that. I am sure this will be a legend in movie making history.

The story is basically, "Dances With Wolves" in space. The one thing that is really different here is the format of the film. IMAX is usually breathtaking enough but seen in 3-D, this film really comes to life. You can almost imagine sitting in a tree next to the characters. You can allow yourself to become immersed in this beautiful but dangerous world. It is worth seeing just for the experience. First there was the silent/talky advance, next black and white to color, now 2-D to 3-D. Go see it because it is the beginning of what is to come.

If you are looking for a movie that will take you to a place you have never been before and want to be surprised and thrilled at the same time... hold on tight because this is one of those movies that will sparkle your imagination!
The only thing I would suggest if you watch it in 3D: bring wipes to clean the glasses. AMC IMAX tried to clean the glasses in some sort of wash but they were water spotted and hard to see out of. I used wet paper towels from the men's room.

2009 brought us two Sci-Fi movies that had very important social commentary. The first was "District 9" and "Avatar" is the second. Where the former showed how humans would treat an alien race should they land on our planet by putting them in concentration camps, the latter shows how humans can justify pre-emptive war on a civilization for mining purposes all to benefit a corporation.
These are important movies, and "Avatar" is gorgeous, and honestly it doesn't feel like it's almost 3 hours long.
Finally, I think Michelle Rodriguez has finally mastered the butch Latina grunt role. I seriously hope someone casts her against type one of these days... I have no idea whether she's capable of anything else.

I think that the 3D IMax experience was the only way to see the movie. Get to the theater early so that you get a seat with who you came with. A couple is fairly easy to seat but 3 or more you might have a problem sitting altogether, so get there early with your family.

I loved the movie. However, there was too much swearing for a movie that is promoted for children by McDonalds. Also, the 3D glasses were not clear. I know they try to clean them between shows, but the glasses had a blurry film on the lenses that I could not clean off. This distracts from the viewing experience. It gave my wife and son a headache. This is the real downfall of the 3D experience.

Avatar is the most original and moving film that I've seen in a very long time. With stunning visuals as well as a strong plot line it rises above the utter rubbish that Hollywood has been producing for the past few years. The IMAX 3D version was amazing, but at times the combination of the 3D glasses and trying to follow the fast action was a minor distraction. I plan to see this again in regular 2D and will probably purchase on BluRay when available.

This movie was excellent. I am so glad that I chose to take my son to see it in IMAX 3D. It was the most amazing experience. The action and special effects in the movie made it well worth the money I spent. All I can say is this movie was one of the best and the minute it goes on DVD it will be bought and added to my collection. I recommend that everyone see it at least once.

The use of CGI and IMAX 3D enhance a captivating story. Previous experience with 3D always caused us disorientation because of changes in perspective, editing and camera movement. Avatar is like watching an ordinary movie but with 3D. We were drawn into this cinematic world more than we expected.
