I've only seen the movie in this format, but it was incredible. You soon forget that Pandora and the Navi are not real. The technology used to create the characters makes you believe that there are 10 ft tall blue actors. To me, that was the most amazing part of the movie. All of the reviews and trailers I've seen didn't do justice to the story line either. I felt it was an engrossing, immersing experience and the story, while nothing new, was engaging. I really felt swept up in the movie and story and that was really only made possible because the effects were realistic. Finally, a movie that used effects to enhance the movie and storytelling rather than overwhelm it.

Avatar was a visually impressive movie. The movement from computer animae to real life was seamless. The visual effects were stunning. The storyline was also very good not being too drawn out but enough for you to really get a feel for the characters and become invested in them. Must see

It's pretty much exactly what I expected. The CGI, 3D, FX, and the motion capture were all amazing. Absolutely amazing.
But the story has been done and most of the characters were pretty flat. Especially the lead, Jake Sulley. There just wasn't any depth to him. Most of the other characters seemed to only function as plot devices and motivations for Sulley, though most of the actual acting was very good.
I would only recommend seeing this movie in 3D. The 3D and other FX help to somewhat distract from the predictable plot. Plus he filmed the whole thing with 3D cameras, so it was meant to be seen in 3D. The IMAX screen didn't really seem to make a difference. All in all it was fun, but it wasn't worth 27 bucks

imax 3d - adds to the experience and the movie is great. a bit long at 2 hr 40 min but worth it - just make sure to use the facilities before the show starts.
Imax 3d was pretty incredible. Glasses are more comfortable than the regular 3d version. Make sure to reserve early as the seats are assigned and the theater fills up quickly.

My husband and I had seen Avatar 3-D the premiere weekend and loved it. He had been wanting to see the IMAX experience ever since, but we hadn't had the time, so I bought him the tickets for his Valentine's Day present. We were NOT disappointed. We both said we loved it even more this time, because not only were the effects, colors and animation more vivid and alive, we were better able to follow the story since we weren't as "enthralled" as we were the first time! Awesome! Everyone should see it at least once. Bravo, James Cameron. Bravo!!!

I have not been to a movie in 5 or 6 years and this was the one that got me back to theater. It was worth every second. My wife and I both loved it. Caught it in IMAX 3D and it was visually mind-blowing. Wou;d recommend to everybody. Once the action starts, it doesn't stop. Great story too.

Right from the start the film pulls you in.
Heartwarming story line with good and evil.

You could see themes from many different movies - Star Wars, Aliens and musical scores similar to Titantic, but overall I didn't care - it was scripted, scored and CG'd in a way that made me simply not care. truly a groundbreaking story and picture. Excellent

Too long-Great visually but it drags on in the final hour. The acting wasn't great by any stretch. The "Iron Man" -ish robots that some of the mercenaries controlled were a little much, especially with the commanding officer and his corny phrases at the end. Again, visually fantastic, but don't expect to have an orgasm. I don't like going to the movies anyway, so I'm not the best one to review.

Absolutely awesome. For over 2-1/5 hr we sat there mesmerized. What creativity and imagination. You really do get caught up in the story line and the special effects are just amazing. Highly recommended.

WOW!!! We have stepped into a new realm of movie technology. We just thought we had experienced IMAX until this movie. This movie had us glued to our seat and the time went by without a look at a watch. It is amazing and makes you want to leave this world and go to their world on Pandora. Just beautiful!!! This is one of the best movies I have seen in a long long time. Everything about the movie was great. I watched it in IMAX 3D and the experience was amazing. I have gone back and seen it 3 times now, and chances are good that I will go back again. I recommend this movie to anyone over 10 years old.

Virtuosity in technologic presentation does not make up for a plot better suited for a graphic novel and flat acting. The neural net concept is just a rework of the force from Star Wars. Fantastic stories work better as books so our own imagination can sketch them out. Cameron spent to much time on the details of the technology than on the drama of the story.

This movie was excellent & visually stunning. I was apprehensive at first, because it is a long movie & I thought I might be bored. I had no need to worry, because I was interested from start to finish. I disagree with some critics saying that the movie had a weak storyline. I was blown away by the creative imagination of James Cameron and his creation of this world and it's habitants. I thought it would be too long but I didn't even notice the time going by. Interesting, stunning special effects and the 3-D Imax was icing on the cake. Loved it and will probably see it again!

Excellent movie, animation was terrific. Plot was good, and kept our attention. Would have given five-stars, but sometimes was difficult to focus with the 3-D glasses. Overall, an excellent movie and would definitely recommend going to see. Loved it!

One word "Spectacular" You will not get up from your seat the moment the movie starts. Get your snacks early. It is worth the wait in line even after it has been out for 5 weeks.
It is such a moving story and the effects are unbelievable.
