My fiance and I recently went to see Avatar in IMAX 3D...what an amazing experience!! I was hesitant at first to spend the money since I'm not normally one for sci-fi thrillers but this movie from start to finish was worth every penny! I recommend seeing it in atleast 3D first to enjoy the full experience because visually it is a masterpiece and the story line...unforgettable!! Enjoy :)

Visually great, some very imaginative interactions with nature and other creatures. Predictable corporate greed/evil vs. native culture. Lack of "on the edge of your seat tension". Imax 3D for this film was great!

The visuals give new meaning to the phrase "out of this world." 3-D and IMAX are at their best. However, the acting was fair, the plot was interesting but I was not blown away by the movie at all. It impressed me as unAmerican which for a movie which will be seen internationally will not improve America's image. James Cameron used techniques from "ET," "Jurassic Park, " "Apocalypse Now," and "Star Wars" so I didn't see anything that original other than the Na'vi characters which were fantastic.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

I watched Avatar on IMAX 3D at AMC Mercado
Special affects are amazing. A lot of attention to detail went into that.
The story line was ok, fairly predictable. The concept of avatars and the new world defined was very good.
The acting was quite average.
I think this movie will win Oscars for its special affects, and maybe music score
Overall a good, entertaining movie but not in the class of Terminator

Avatar is a great choice for the whole family~the story is thought provoking and has deeper connotations than the previews and trailers suggest. The effects and COLORS were absolutely magnificent and seeing it in IMAX 3D was well worth the extra cost. Highly recommend it !

We tried 3 different times to watch this movie and each time it was sold out. Everyone I know who watched this movie said "see it in 3d!!!" Finally, after getting our tickets from movietickets.com we were set. Tried not to have such high expectations, but couldn't help it. Watched it in IMax 3D and it blew me away!!! You know when CGI mixes with live action you can see "little" mistakes where the interaction is off? I never noticed this. Maybe because I was so into the movie. It does get a little predictable in some parts, but it just doesn't diminish from the movie at all!!! This is an awesome movie especially in IMax 3D... It is so worth the extra cost!!! What are you waiting for? Go see it!!!

This movie grabbed me visually, too bad I can't say the same thing about the plot. There was no real sense of "we're in danger" for the part of the human storyline, and the whole corporate take over everything is getting kinda tired.

I found myself whispering to my husband (he is going to get it) or (here she goes) etc.
I wont tell you that the movie isn't good, it was very entertaining, also predictable.
My son walked out, turned to me, &said,
"This was a very predictable movie" I totally agreed.
That was THE most negative thing to say.
Special effects were great, the 'avatar' people were gorgeous.
The storyline? Predictable, but entertaining, sterotypical, boring? NO, not even. Action, kept moving, beautiful!!
Gives another way to look at the life around you.
I don't want to give the movie away.
I want you to see it, and see it in 3D.
Enjoy, and oh yeah, the movie is quite long, so be prepared.

The movie was great! Very interesting storyline. It had action, drama, romance. I saw it in IMAX but I'm not really sure if that made a difference in the movie's impact since it was the first film I saw i IMAX format.

We were at the IMAX in Newport Ky and it's a great theater. We drove over an hour to get there and it was worth it. Avatar is meant to be watched in at least 3D and IMAX if you can. The detail in the world they created was just beautiful to behold. You really get into the new world and get thrown a bit when they go back to 'reality'. The only complaint would be the script which is just another 'big bad civilization takes over native planet' scenario. But for all that it's not that bad a plot, the actors are great. I was a little surprised that Sigorney Weaver had such a big part in this but she's a real presence. I definitely encourage people to see this in at least 3D but if you can get to an IMAX (Newport was fantastic) go.

...This movie was AWESOME. Fastest 2.5 hours in the theater since LOTR...absolutely amazing. Definitely see it in 3D and in IMAX if you can (get good seats) it will blow you away.

The animation was the star of this movie - the dragons and landscapes seemed to be a direct nod to 70s album artist Roger Dean, but the animation was breathtakingly realistic - no jerky-motion figures like in "I Am Legend."
Acting-wise, there's no Oscar-winning performances here, and the script seems like something intended for a Disney animated film; very predictable and filled with moral messages. At least you can get lost in the adventure and fantasy.
Worth seeing on IMAX/3D, but not worth seeing in the theater twice and not a good DVD purchase unless you have a very large high-res screen to show it on.

Go see the movie for the CGI and 3D. Story is lame and took way too long to develop. Basically a story about a soldier who goes "native" and fights his superiors. Graphics was way cool. 3D worked 85% of the time. Only wished that James Cameron would spend 1% of the time energy he spends on the special effects to develop the plot. The movie was too long, too much film time wasted on soldier being "stupid" learning native ways, and "fly-over" shots of the forests. Would like to have a longer batter sequence at the end. Basically this is why everyone went to see the film. Cameron fails to deliverer on what the audience wants. Instead tries to shove a ill-conceived "love story" through the movie.

That is all I can say. Probably one of my top 5 all time. The special effects combined with the 3D made it even better. The story line, the action, the visuals, all combined to give a fantastic movie experience.

WOW!! I was a shivering sweaty mess when the film ended...literally blown away, out of my frickin mind.

Excellent movie! if you can't afford to see the IMAX version, at least spring for the 3-D price. Great storyline and interesting characters, but the scenery/jungle is the real star of the movie. On a more somber note, the storyline has eerie echoes of what happened to our own Native Americans.

One of the best movies I have seen in a long time! AMC24 IMAX in Highlands Ranch does not do the IMAX screen justice. Seating should bo more stadium-like (more acute angle vertically). Go to I-25 and Colorado Blvd. United Artists IMAX.
