I was blown away by this movie. I have not seen a movie as deeply moving as this one in my memory. The concept was clever, and reality had to be suspended to allow belief in the story line, but so what! It was truly an emotional experience like few I have experienced in a cinema. I think IMAX is essential to the experience.

My first thought upon hearing about Avatar 3D was...okay, this is going to be an over-the-top joke. There is no way this is going to be immersive. I was wrong. The 3D is elegantly pulled off to suck you into the story without distracting from the plot. The environments are expansive and extremely realistic (depsite the waterfalls on the floating mountains...that makes no sense). The story is a faster moving and Eco take on Dances with Wolves. But it does so without beating you over the head with the message. Great movie, and I can't imagine seeing this any other way than in 3D.

Hands down the best movie I have ever seen. Most movies you walk out of the theater going "It was good, but...". Not with Avatar. I can't think of a single bad thing to say about this movie.

This is one of the best movies we've ever seen - the visuals are incredible, the story line is engaging, and overall this movie provided some serious entertainment. Extremely satisfied - will be seeing it again, this time with the kids!

I'm not a sci-fi guy at all but I wanted to check out a 3-D movie over the holiday. The 3-D experience was excellent! The plot was rather boring but being a person that falls a sleep during movies, I did manage to stay awake the whole 2 1/2 hrs. I think it was the imagery of the movie that kept my attention. I would reccomend this movie to people seeking a cool experience over a great movie.

Avatar was one of the greatest movie experiences I have ever had, right up there with the re-release of star wars. The visuals were mind blowing, never have I experienced anything like that at the movies. The 3d world created by Cameron looked realer than anything I had ever seen in the movies. The effects were pure awesomeness. My only problem with this movie is that it has set the standard to high. I will be disappointed seeing anything visually less now that I know such effects are possible. Don't wait to see this movie on dvd it was meant to be seen on the big screen!!!

Better story than I was led to expect. Some of the movie dragged when they were setting up the Avitar experiencing and learning the ways of this new world. Some of that necessary to make his transformation of character credible. Some nice early groundwork to make the ending believeable. Action scenes very good.
Was a tad disconcerting to have to root for nature loving aliens resisting the evil American Empire and massacring its soldiers. A general asks the Avatar at the end, "How does it feel to betray your own kind?" does sting. Should play well in the Middle East!
Nicely done overall and should be seen in 3 D.

This movie is unlike anything you've ever seen. I won't give anything away here because most of the themes and outcomes are pretty obvious. But the visual aspects can only be described by seeing the movie for yourself. It is probably the best movie I've seen in the last ten years. It's popcorn/blockbuster, drama, adventure, and love story all rolled into one. My daughter, who is quite skeptical of event movies ("The Dark Knight"), was blown away. You have to see it in IMAX 3D. Cameron's years of working with IMAX on undersea movies shows. Two epics, two winners. Jim Cameron's my guy for epics.

Genius level visual creativity…. stupid premise.
Worn out metaphors, and dumb stereotypes. There are two conflicting philosophies in the film.
Capitalism and Americanism = evil thuggery raping the planet. And... Primitive collectivist cultures and environmentalist mysticism = morally enlightened wisdom.
Obvious political jargons thrown in for good measure just to make it clear to viewers in case they miss it "shock and awe" being one example.
American Indian abuses and the "trail of tears" theme abounds.
Yes Hollywood, we get it. Can you please make a move, for just once, without drowning us in you politics?
It makes for a repetitive and shallow story.

The 3D IMAX experience is magnificent. I can't deny this movie is very pretty to watch. Yet, the story, the plot is so disappointing. I mean humans going to another planet to exploit them for their resources is so boring, so unimaginitive, so dead. I mean especially when the "natives" clearly are bigger and stronger. It's white man gone native(Dances with Wolves), love story(Last of the Mohicans), Geronimo(stealing land from the Natives), but set in outer space. Funny, the Navi were portrayed by African Americans except Wes Studi who portrayed GERONIMO!!! Cameron should let a someone else do the screenplay!

I hadn't watched an IMAX 3d movie for about 10 years, so I wasn't expecting TOO much. That being said, I was amazed at just how much you really feel IN the movie when watching Avatar in IMAX 3d. I can't imagine watching it any other way. I think it was heightened by the fact that your subject matter is an alien world, so you don't have any "real" world to compare it to. That, more than the story, acting, etc. really made you care about the characters, and get thoroughly engrossed in the whole experience. And that's what I'd say it is. Not so much a "movie", but more an experience. You truly feel a sense of loss when the whole ride comes to a close. I'd recommend it to anyone in a heartbeat.

This is among the best made movie of all time, with the attention to detail rivaling the great old movies of Kubrick and Orson Wells. The story line is not as compelling, with some modern stereotypes as charatcers. But, the 3D effects, action sequences, the details of Pandora are more than enough to make it a spellbinding feature worthy of watching more than once.

This is the most AWESOME movie of 2009. I saw it two weeks ago, then took the grandkids to see it at the IMAX theater in Tempe Arizona yesterday. That broadened the whole experience. The 3D of 2009 is the best experience of the decade. I can remember when you went to the movies and was handed the glasses with the blue and red lenses. Not today. I would recommend AVATAR to everyone. But, keep an open mind and don't try to read into it what you think the message is or might be. It's a great movie and I will see it several more times before it's released in DVD, which I will purchase.

My husband and I went to see Avatar on Christmas Day. My FIRST IMAX 3D experience. OMG, the effects, the story. I wanted to (and felt like I could!) jump into that screen and help defend Pandora. One of the few Movies that I wasn't looking at my watch to see how much longer, I didn't want it to end, Must see for everyone, even us folks over 50!

a real spectacle! i wanted to pause the movie so that i could look completely around the screen and see all the details that were there. a thinly disguised allegory about global warming/rainforest destruction but if you can get past those politics and focus on waht you are seeing, it is an amzing experience. See it in IMAX if you can...the 3d is cool, and not hokey.

Awesome film saw it in IMAX 3D sold out. One of those films you just soak it in and it appears to stand on its own. Excellent job on the CGI it didnt get in the way I was able to be there with them saving the planet. I would see it again and I hate doing that. =P See it in IMAX 3D strap yourself in and enjoy the show I recommend a nice sound system to drown out the talkers and food munchers they will go rampant if not held back.

Like Matrix was when it came out, Avatar is an evolutionary leap in the movie experience. Once you see this one you can't go back. Avatar is the ultimate boost to the movie theatres because there is no way you can get this heightened level of experience elsewhere. DVD, hometheatre, internet streaming will all pale in insignificance compared to seeing this on an IMAX 3D screen.

The movie over all was great but is filled with political injections. Its a shame that a movie, how ever far in the future and how ever groundbreaking, has to use presidential quotes from today. If you want politics read a political section of a website or news paper... leave it out of the movies.

I did not know a lot about this movie but have listened to my son talk about it for a while. He insisted I go see it and am I ever glad he did. This movie is unbelievable. You must see it in 3D. My favorite of all time!!!

This movie was incredible - the story line and quality of the graphics pulled me into the movie unlike anything I have seen recently. We saw it in IMAX 3D which was almost overwhelming as we were so immersed in the experience. The parallel with the American indians was obvious and powerful. Overall, this movie was well scripted, very well put together and the overall experience was well worth the (IMAX) price of admission. This is one movie I will definitely see again and we will certainly add it to our Blu-Ray collection when it comes out.

This is byfar the best movie ever taken. If you appreciate technology in movies, be sure to see this movie, you would be amazed. I couldn't imagine what was going through James cameroon mind, the special effects and art direction was beyond imagination. Must see on an IMAX.

Avatar truly is a spectacle. You have to at least see it once to fully appreciate the 3d spectacle that it is. After that, Avatar is a terrible movie; a 2+ hour tech demo filled with cliche characters, a bare bones plot, and pretty much everything you've seen in Cameron's other action epics Terminator and Aliens only this time redone in awesome cg. If you want to see what technology can do for cinema, then check out Avatar. If you want to see a good movie, go see something else.
