Not since I was child and the release of Star Wars (1977) came out ... have I seen a movie so full of beautiful imagination, color and wonderment. If tickets weren't so expensive, I would see it over and over again. Completely awesome! As for one of the comments that the story line was predictable ... in essence, every storyline has been used ... but it's how you tell it that is the key ... and this story was FANTASTICAL!

Avatar is seriously impressive. I saw it in IMAX 3D at a standard theater. In hindsight, I would not have bothered with the IMAX version without going to a "real" IMAX theater. However, the 3D was spectacular. I would strongly recommend that everyone who has any interest in this movie first see it in 3D. The 3D effects are an integral part of the movie, and you feel as if you can reach out and touch something on the screen in almost every scene. The computer generated effects are the best I have ever seen. The combination of CG and live action is extremely well done. The visuals are lush and beautiful - except for the war scenes. I thoroughly enjoyed all 160 minutes of this movie.

I've read a lot of other reviews and heard word-of-mouth that although the visual effects were ground-breaking, the story lacked somewhat. I did not find that true at all. I thought the story was very well-written. Do I even have to say anything about the visuals? I saw it in IMAX 3D and it was unlike anything I have ever seen before. I was truly getting dizzy and having vertigo on some scenes! James Cameron never fails to deliver. This is a movie experience that any so called movie lover needs to have.

The best movie in a very long time, my jaw hit the floor and I barely blinked the whole movie. It is a tru experience to see this one in Imax 3D, I WILL go twice, or 3 times.... Go see this movie< and go see it in Imax 3D or at least digital 3D.

FX are out of this world. The was able to capture the imagination of some of the better RPG that come to mind. You'll never get the same experience if you wait for the disc and watch on your TV.

Occasionally there is a movie that changes the playing field. Avatar is such an experience. In my lifetime it was "2001 A Space Odyssey" another was the first "Star Wars" movie. Then more recently "Saving Private Ryan". For the most part these movies are watermarks of technical prowess. But that is a shallow observation. These are not my favorite movies of all time, but they are most memorable for how they changed the industry. The director uses these technical ability to sell a story that otherwise would not be believable. Avatar sucks you into the screen and sells you a world that doesn't exist. Then tells you it's story convincingly. Wow!

Avatar is the first 3D movie you can enjoy without wearing those miserably uncomfortable red and blue lensed cardboard glasses. They issue professional, comfortable, super-size wrap around plastic eye gear. I wear glasses and was quite comfortable throughout. You wear them right over your own glasses. It doesn't give you a headache like the old 3D technology used to. The IMAX 3D is just out-of-this-world amazing! Its light years ahead of anything else you've experienced, trust me. You will not be disappointed. The movie plot is brilliant, the actors are excellent and it keeps you on the edge of your seat for the entire time. The colors and graphics are beyond comprehension. Its a visually stunning movie.

it was excellent from beginning to end. The CGI melded seamlessly with the regular footage. The story line was tight and sensitive. The characters were fullblown and vibrant.
Sigourney Weaver was so good at her regular height or ten feet tall and blue.
It all came together to become what I call Seamless.

Some language, intense battle scenes, and subtle sensuality but I felt it was OK for my 9 and 12 year old to see.
The 3-D experience was awesome. I thought the movie would get boring since it was so long, but it didn't. I don't know if there was a difference between the IMAX experience and regular 3-D in my theatre. I have seen regular 3-D movies and it seemed the same.
Very good movie if you like fantasy action films.

I saw the movie a week ago in 3D. I had to see it again in IMax. It was worth every penny and the time it took to get the tickets. A must have movie for your home collection when it is released. IMax just brings the film to life and pulls you in. I would not only recommend the movie, I would and will see it again.

Excellent! Thought the 3-D was magnificent. The cimematogrophy was unbelievable. What a beautiful world James Cameron has created. The movie certainly is very timely as if you replace the mineral that the Company is after with oil, you have the U.S. declaring war on Iraq. We think like the Company, we have the right to just take what we want. Well, there are consequences for that and because of Bush and Cheney, the U.S will be paying for this arragance for many years to come.
I thought both Sam Worthington and Zoe Salada where excellent in their roles but to me, Stephan Lang made the movie for me. What a cllassic villian he has created.
Run and see this movie A.S.A.P. and you MUCST see it in IMAX 3-D.

I truly did enjoy this movie. Like some of the other reviewers have stated, it was very predictable, reminded me a bit of Dances with Wolve, but I had never been to a 3D movie and I also saw it in the IMAX theatre. Very impressive with the surround sound and such. I would highly reccomend seeing this movie in 3D AND in an IMAX theatre.

The film is so immersing that you feel you've been to Pandora by the time the credits roll.
That alone would be nothing without a solid story, and Avatar has it. I know some reviews cite a "lack" of good story, but I disagree.
The characters are real and archetypal at times, and the story arc is simple and robust. Quite a feat considering the level of effects and visuals.
Cameron had a vision that he stuck to, and every penny was well-spent.
This film makes "Transformers 2" look like a home movie made with a camcorder in someone's back yard!
This movie has sealed James Cameron as a Master of Film. We all thank him for opening up new possibilities for other film-makers and their vision.

Great movie. Almost 3 hours longs but the movie keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time.
Special effects were amazing!
You defintely need to see this movie in 3D, it only adds to the special effects.
Would recommend this movie to anyone over the age of 8. Some bad language but I'm sure kids hear worse at school now a days anyway.

I noticed a few people mention that the "plot is predictable" and "just enjoy the movie for the stunning visual effects." While these things may be true, PLEASE look for and UNDERSTAND the message behind the movie. This movie has an awesome message within it and I hope it resonates with many of you. Go to a local park or a National Park and enjoy what is around you. Enjoy that it basically costs you nothing except for respect toward keeping it clean. Have some respect for your neighbor no matter who or what they may be. Not just entertainment and not just political correctness. It is about life and how we best be a bit more careful how we live it.

I thoroughly enjoyed Avatar--I plan on seeing it again! The breathtaking cinematic vista created by James Cameron and his team--along with the plot and dialog, created a tremendous experience I look forward to repeating.
