This is a perfect blend of 3-D CGI and live action. Real actors merge seamlessly with alien backgrounds that make you feel like you're right in the middle of the action.
Strong characters give emotionally charged scenes and situations the look and feel of the very best movies ever written. This film is destined to be a classic, not just for the effects but the strong story line. Beautiful as a story, an idea, and a film. I agree stories like this have been told before, but never in this way. Plus the message still needs to be heard, because not enough change in the right direction has been made. The art direction is amazing, as well the story of the human connection and the world around us. Everyone should see this movie, hopefully it will help the ideas sink in.

Best 3D I've ever experienced. IMAX 3D is better than regular theater RealD. Solid story. He gives us just enough backstory and boom we're off and running. This movie was really about experiencing Pandora through the eyes of the Na'vi. And it does that with a tremendous rush of adrenaline inducing, action packed adventure. The CG characters were the best to date as far as holding their ground next to live actors. In some cases they delivered a more heartfelt and believable performance than the live actors. Zoe Saldana stole the show. Great love story against a beautiful backdrop and a gripping struggle for survival. Cameron knows story and he knows action and he more than delivers here.

unbelievable - a must see on IMAX 3D. The story's been done before (think Dances with Wolves) and predictable, but the action and FX are amazing! It never dragged, never felt too long! Show up early to get a good seat!

This is the top three of the best movies I have ever seen. I saw it in Imax 3D, but I think that the movie itself would lose NOTHING if viewed in 2D. I usually do not go to sold out movies because I have personal space issues, but I can assure you that for the duration of the movie, AND the credits, AND several minutes after I had no idea there were people around me. Every movie I will ever see again will pale in comparison to this experience. I will own it on DVD, but you HAVE to see it in theaters first, wow, what a movie!

My husband and I saw this in a regular theater and liked it so much we went to see it in regular 3D. That led inevitably to seeing it in IMAX 3D which is a large step above regular 3D. My husband has seen it five times, three in IMAX and I have seen it four times, twice in IMAX. I would go see it again!

I love every second of this movie, and everything about it! From the story line to the casting, it is a great movie to go enjoy with some friends like i did or with that special someone! I suggest the imax 3d just because it makes it so much better!

The overall viewing experience was outstanding. I didn't care much for the "politically correct" story line [industry bad, tree huggers-good] and it had a faint scent of "Dances WIth Wolves". However, the visual effects were beyond description in both their scope and effect. The acting was a bit 2-dimensional with the bad guys being all bad, completely devoid of any redeeming qualities and the good guys were virtually perfect (see previous comment on DWW). But in spite of all of this, I couldn't help but enjoy myself.

IMAX - you're supposed to feel like your in the movie with a big screen, quality sound, etc.
I don't think this theater is a real IMAX theater - the screen was not big or curved and the movie did not fill the whole screen. The sound quality was the same as a regular theater.
I've seen IMAX before and this wasn't it. Maybe some theaters are IMAX lite.

Here's a movie that lived up to all the hype. I've seen other 3D movies and I always get annoyed at having to wear glasses in order to receive the full experience of the movie. And sometimes the movie makers throw in the 3D effect as a gimmick which sometimes overrides the story. However, none of this is the case with Avatar. Avatar turned out to be a unique experience. I'll no doubt see it again. My hat is off to the makers of this film. The one word I have to describe this picture is "Awesomely Beautiful". Oops, that's two words, but very accurate. Go see this picture, just because there's nothing else like it. And there won't be another one anytime soon.

A genius film. It made me feel like I wanted to live it. It is the new star wars of this time . great depth in every respect. I went away wanting more .AVATAR can become a drug at times it demands that much of you.I will see it many times more .The best escape film yet. All of us wish Pandora was a real place to go to live it. I dare any one to do better. My level of expectations of a movie just went up about a zillion notches.It is that good. See it many times because your mind can not devour it all!!!!!

If you watch this movie, 3D iMax is the way to go. The plot is pretty predictable, but it was a really good movie experience. Even if you don't like seeing weird creatures... you should still watch it.

This film has raised the bar considerably for entertainment and although the screenplay is somewhat wash and wear and the score entirely unoriginal (The music for "Congo" was better and that is not giving any praise whatsoever for that terrible flick), the film experience itself (in IMAX) is pure "pwnage". My beef with the score (bore) is my personal peeve thus the missing star however, this film in IMAX is not to be missed!

The look and feel of the film are incredible. An absolutely astounding film experience. Technically Cameron can make a movie like no other, but like Lucas he needs someone to help write dialog-"Unobtainium"? Really! Must see in IMAX, 3D.

Highly recommend that you see this move in IMAX 3D. We bought tixx beforehand and had to wait in line for awesome seats & it was well worth it!!!! Did not feel like it was too long & kept you involved in the fantasy with awesome effects and interesting story (despite the anti-US undertones). 100% satisfied.

Avatar is a compelling movie - the 3-D Imax experience is unique and transports the viewer to a new world - full of adventure and treats for your eyes. I want to see it again to see what I must have missed - the story is timeless and not new - with a predictability of plot that anyone of "a certain age" will understand. It is worth seeing for the effects, which make Titanic look like childs play.

I had read all the hype about this movie and decided to see for myself, and am I glad I did! This has got to be the most beautiful movie I have seen in a long time. The colors and the story. I know that you could say this was political, but I decided to see this as good over evil, and the beauty, WOW this I will buy the day it comes out! Do your self a favor run dont walk to see this! I am seeing this again this weekend but be advised I saw it on sunday was there 1hr early for the first showing and the theatre was 1/2 full on my arrival...

This movie is on a whole other level when compared to other sc-fi movies. The aliens look more human than other alien movies. The story is incredibly good. The acting couldn't have been better. It definitely made my top 5 movies of all time, and I think most of the country will agree with me, look at how much money it's making in the box office!!

While the special effects are spectacular, the story is well written and well acted. It is certainly a thought provoking movie causing one to question the way Western civilization has chosen to view people and cultures much different from its own. The words, beleifs, and the ritual acts of the Navi echo Native American ways especially when an animal is killed for food and the hunter offers a prayer of thanks to the animal for providing itself as an offering. Do not miss this film.

Avatar 3D IMAX was a good movie. I actually need to see it a second time to get the full impact. It's not really my kind of movie, but it was good. Well done. I thought it was too long and some parts could have been shorter. My 18 year old son thought it was the best movie he's ever seen.

I wasn't sure what to expect except that friends recommended it highly, and Cameron's movies have been entertaining.
It was an experience. As someone else said, the humans occupying their avatars in the movie is paralleled by the audience "occupying" the milieu of the movie via the 3D technique. Though the "experience" is unique and thrilling in itself, Cameron is a great storyteller, and without a good story, this movie would not be as memorable as it is. The story (though not particularly innovative), along with the characters, will touch your heart. This film is an order of magnitude advance in the technology of moviemaking.
You will not be disappointed.
