James Cameron's Avatar is a fantastic film, from beginning to end the movie keeps you visually entertained. There is no other movie that can quite match Avatar in visuals and at this point it is the best example of what the future of digitally enhanced movies will be like. The story is simple yet satisfying, though providing nothing new it stills manages to keep it all together to make Avatar interesting. The characters are nicely developed and even though for the most part we see their CGI form they are still quite convincing that you are attached to them on an emotional level.
I recommend to anyone interested in seeing this movie to go see it in IMAX 3D. You will not be disappointed.

3D will do no better then it did in the fifties
and this movie won't help. You see it once and you have nothing to go back for Story, Story, Story. 3D Imax did not help the lake of Story!

I was completely unprepared for how amazing Avatar was going to be. The previews did not make it look as epic as it truly was because I was blown away. By far one of the strangest and best movies I've ever seen. Worth the price of admission.

While the story lags behind the technology in scope and depth the movie as a whole is the best movie experience I have ever had in a theater. I'm a huge fan of old dialogue driven movies and thought CG a minor detail compared to acting and script, but Avatar has changed my mind about the future of cinema. A part of me is subconsciously aware that the script is lackluster, but the rest of me is enthralled and utterly engrossed in the complete, captivating Cameron phenomena that is playing before my eyes. With movies like Avatar giving us glimpses of whats to come, the future looks bright for movies lovers.

I saw the IMAX 3D version and thought it was excellent visually and a fun watch overall. The plot is a little transparent. Since the visual is the best part I definitely recommend seeing it in theater and in 3D at least, but I wouldn't pay that much to go multiple times.

What an amazing movie experience. Whether or not you are into Sci-Fi. This movie is captivating. It will take you to another world and you will actually feel like you are there in reality. Great visual Fx and an interesting storyline. Must be seen in IMAX 3-D. If you waste your money on a bootleg version of this you are only ripping yourself off. Go see it in IMAX 3-D.

I saw this movie in 3D IMAX and would love to see it again. The colors, the special effects, just amazing. A friend of mine saw it in 3D and IMAX 3D and said you could tell a big difference between the 2. If you're going to see it, spend the extra few bucks to see the 3D IMAX.

I have seen this in Regular, 3D, and 3D Imax twice. The only bad thing I can say is that even on a quiet Thursday, the theater was packed and it was hard to get a seat. Get there early!
I have been listening to the Soundtrack for 2 weeks now and have watched every behind the scenes feaurette I can find. I still clap at the end! See it in the Theater! Don't wait for DVD!

Excellent! But in the last scene, when the miners are being deported, one of the Avatar's clothing mysteriously seems to "fit" instead of looking shrunken as they did throughout the rest of the movie! Aha! Only a REAL Avatar would catch this. 20 years ago I named my business Avatar Massage & Fitness...now I can't wait until real holographic movie experiences come out! those glasses are too funny...

I don't know if i just wasn't paying close enough atttention to the commercials, but i was so thoroughly surprised by how fabulous this movie was . my husband really wanted to see it, and i really didn't know why, but i am so glad we did.. the 3d graphics/cinematography are fantastic.. you feel like you are in there with the characters, and in the imax, you have the full visual effect with sound also rocking thru you. absolutely a must see in 3d and imax if you can. you will not be sorry.

Saw this film twice in two different IMAX 3-D theatres. This is a film you MUST see in this format. Here in LA I would recommend The Bridge: Cinema de Lux. All IMAX theatres are NOT the same. Shop around the internet as if you were buying a car. Most reviewers here have already stated what I would about the film. There is a great line near the end which sums up a great twist about most sci-fi 'invasion' films but I won't spoil it. You'll know it when you hear it.

I guess the director does want to be safe after spending so much. Wish Cameron could make an intelligent movie as a side project. A film which would leave something for the viewer to think, to imagine.
My ratings -- eye candy 5, story 3 => average =4. If I didn't get to watch this in IMAX 3D then it would have just been a 3.
These blue people, the noble savages....don't they have old, wrinkled or plain fat ones?
Are they really going to give this the best Picture Oscar? And completely ignore the likes of District9? Well at least it wasn't as bad as the Titanic.

Movie was better than great!!! Seating at Woodland AMC was excretement!!! Uncomfortable seats for the price!! Everyone was complaining about the uncomfortable seating in the IMAX. I have been in other IMAX and not had uncomfortable seats. Been to discount theaters with more comfortable seating!!!

I went to see this movie expecting to be dazzled by only the special effects but found out that it was more than just that. This movie had everything action, love, political views and really made me think. The way the movie ended was just perfect in my opinion and I never noticed that this movie was close to 3 hours long. Great!

The technical effects wore off long before the movie ended (2 hrs 40 minutes later). Thin story line where things kept repeating. None of these actors should be considered for awards for such stereotyped characters; only reason to consider Avatar for "best picture" would be because of the technology. Why did the critics rave? Was the appeal to them (like District 9) in the overriding political statement about the "wrongness" of using military strength to gain one's goals? Having paid twice what I normally pay for a movie, I did not get my money's worth.

The human CGI is so realistic, my wife was in awe of the make-up effects — completely oblivious to the fact she was, instead, watching animation. The "acting' shown is now stored digitally, and can be used for other projects, with other images. One can only imagine how quickly an enormous library of reactions and portrayals will accumulate. In the end, the day of the live actor may take its place—along side the day live orchestra—as a fond memory, and SAG may become as irrelevant as the AFM.
Fortunately, the short-comings of the script highlight the fact that we are a long way from the day of the "Digital Writer."

This is what all movies will look like in the near future. Effects were fantastic. Kept my interest throughout he whole movie. Storyline was a letdown. Good vs Evil. Guess who wins? Also, mankind hasn't learned any lessons in the year 2154. Sound made the experience even better. Well edited and soundtrack should get an Oscar.

The IMAX experience really brings this cute movie to life, it starts off slow and kinda difficult to grasp but after the beginning then it really starts to come to life plot wise and image wise. Awesome colors and effects, great story line, and great for all ages*

Like many, I thought this movie would be aweful when I saw the trailers. But I went on the advice of people I trust, and this was the biggest movie surprise of the year. Amazing. The effects are simply on a new level, no need to make a comparison. People who say the plot is thin do not understand an epic movie such as this. You can not have a complex plot, but you can have complex and compelling characters, and these characters are compelling, which makes you even more in awe of the effects.

As a sci-fi action junky I was tantilized by the idea of Avatar but it just doesn't measure up. There is no contest for special effects. This new technique in film making has everything to make a viewer part of the action. After an hour it isn't enough. Diving off cliffs, racing through tree branches, riding huge flying creatures or earth bound ones is thrilling until it gets old, then there needs to be a story of some sort. This movie has only the barest of plots it is well worn and old hat. If you translate the story into a political statement against imperialism or corporate greed then it takes on a sliver of meaning. But really, with all the money invested in the special effects couldn't they have spared some for good writers?

This was my first 3D movie and I was awed by the special effects. BUT . . . the storyline was unoriginal, think old played out Native Americans being taken advantage of by whites. I actually dosed during 1:25pm showing. The couple next to me left early. The theater was way too cold here in AZ. Go for the technology and 3D but don't expect a great storyline or well developed characters.
