Though Ive heard MANY arguments about how "its been done before" and "how it doesn't explain itself enough" all i hear is "i don't know how to sit my bottom down and enjoy a good fun movie that draws me in and takes me for a ride." The story gives you enough to make you feel for the world and its creatures but doesn't bog you down too much with the science of the sci-fi genre. It is made as a movie that can be enjoyed by a wide breath of people, and though some may again argue that by doing so it loses some of its potency... but again i say they are missing the point. I've seen this with friends and family, and it all ends the same way. With everyone leaving the theater saying "how much fun that was"

Avatar was the best movie I've seen in a long time. James Cameron really outdid himself this time. We saw it in Imax 3-D and when we were watching it, we felt like we were in the movie. There is so much color and special effects, it phenomenal. The movie had a good plot and a wonderful theme. I would encourage anyone who has seen it to go see it. We want to see it again!!!!

A space-age cowboys vs. indians kind of movie. The special effects were pretty good and the 3D made up for the fact that even though we were twenty five minutes early, we had to sit in the last row of the section up front. You can tell people are parroting the Chicago Alderman's claim this is an Anti-American, Anti-Military movie. The fact is, at the very beginning of the movie, it was stated the security forces were ex-military now employed by a corporation - that would make them Mercenaries. Soldiers of Fortune, not US Military men and women fighting for their country...

This movie is a triumph in technology, the scenery, although alien, is absolutely believable. The story is a little predictable but you find yourself so awed by the environment that you don't mind the lack of plot twist. Think of Dances With Wolves meets Aliens.

The 3D experience is awesome. However, the volume was way to loud. Made enjoying the movie harder. Gave me a slight headache. Would not watch again in IMAX because of the volume. The movie is well acted and directed. However, the story has many left-wing political messages and is way too anti military. Make no mistake, Cameron, the director, has something to say in this movie, and it is anti-American. If you are in the military, you may not like this movie.

The special effects are AMAZING!!! The alien characters were very realistic, and I loved the creativity of the planet life forms. My only beef is the lack of riveting dialogue. I mean, really... "unobtainium"? Some of the other dialogue was pretty weak, too. But, overall... a great movie. Definitely see it in 3D!

Its a long movie but it is very entertaining. It keeps you in the story. It has revolutionized 3D it is awesome. Pandora seemed so real. Great story, awesome battle between good and evil.

Great effects, But, just another billion dollar movie that depicts corporations and capitalists are only out to kill off the "indians" with no consideration for gaia or religious beliefs. Here we have another example of Hollywood brainwashing every kid out there that the last jifty years was about how we all suck as stewards. America is the problem not the solution. A sicker thought is that we should turn our back on society to fix it's ills. It's sad to know that this generation of students will all become oceanographers, vegetarians and appeasers and hate the people that gave them the ability to enjoy their current lifestyle

This movie was amazing, especially in IMAX 3-D. The plot was what I expected; "Dances With Wolves" meets "Matrix". That said, I believe the acting was very good, the action captivating, and the special effects outstanding.

Movie itself was ok, 3D experience made me sick as a dog!!! I could of vomited at any given time. The other problem is theaters these days don't seem to have ushers so it was impossible to get two seats together as people leave gaps. That ruins a movie in itself.

This movie will be what all 3D movies will be compared to.
The visual effects are worth the price of admission alone. This is a new high in CGI effects blended seamlessly where it is very difficult to tell real from fake.
The story, while predictable, is well told. It is well laid out with an even flow and no major gaps. There is a little bit of something for everyone; special effects, boy-meet-girl, fight scenes, moral story.
For IMAX, be sure to get a seat further back. We got stuck in the front row and it really ruined the experience, especially compared to Real3D. The fast action sequences were very blurred and the quality of the 3D was not as robust.

This movie blew me away with the merging of computer generated characters and and human actors. It takes you to another world, what a great escape! James Cameron's vision comes to life with the 3D glasses. There were a couple scenes where I actually flinched at things (what I thought) were flying off the screen right at me. There's nothing like it. Hurry, run to the nearest theater showing this.

While watching the movie, I was actually thinking, "Finally, another Star Wars or Matrix." A technical tour-de-force with a great story. IMAX 3D was completely worth it.

This will be an unpopular pov - maybe because of my age - but the story is overly simplisitc and juvenile. What a waste of a phenomenal movie experience. The animation, design and overall look of the characters is extraordinary and beautiful, however the monotone overlay was disturbing to me - mostly a blue overtone and sometimes a warmer color, but I would have preferred the visual look of the movie to be more realistic. Maybe I sat too close to the screen, but visually, it lacked focus and definition. For people of my age, I would say skip it, as the story is comic-bookish and way too long.

Extremely wonderful experience to view the 3D Avatar at an IMAX Theater. The special effects were amazing. The story line has been used before, but it was truly enjoyable. I recommend this movie to those that are sci-fi geeks to those that just wish for a better world.

If you are expecting a Blade Runner like sci-fi experience, go see something else.
Because, while all things visual are groundbreaking and amazing, the plot is as mundane as Cambell's tomato and grilled cheese. Just another predictable anti-war film preaching: respect the natives because...mother earth defeats the mechanized hordes.
That said it delivers what I want in a sci-fi special effects movie: Pretty things to look at, great explosions, blood, death, war, sexy aliens, nifty tech and all the bells and whistles of a perfectly animated 3D extravaganza.
Again though, this movie is, and never will be a "classic." This is just one of the first, of what will be many beautiful 3D films.

I'm not a sci-fi movie fan and REALLY did NOT want to see this movie - especially since it was 2hrs 40 min. Though, I was dragged by a friend who assured me that I would enjoy the film. Well, he was right. The movie was entertaining, beautiful to watch, and the time past quickly. I would recommend to EVERYONE -- even those non-sci-fi movie fans. Definitely worth seeing in IMAX!

The 3d Imax experience was fantastic!! the attention to detail was really good. I loved the plot to the movie it kinda sent a political message to the audience. It was a bit long but the story was very good and I think in order to really understand the storyline it needed to be that long.

The best movie I think I have ever seen. Would reccomend I max 3-d. Other 3-d movies I have seen have been lacking. This one however was amazing! Everything seemed real. Nothing looked as if it was created on a computer. The sound was the best surround I have ever heard. I was not real excited about seeing this until everyone told me how good it was. I was blown away. Over and above what I was expecting. I wish I had an imagination that could come up with something half of this story. The story line keeps you riveted the whole way through. The length of the movie is not a deterant and leaves you not wanting it to end.

I came to see this movie with a firm believe that all the previews I alreade saw gave me a good idea of the film like happen some times with other too expected ones, but this time previews were only a small part of the story.
The imagination used to create this world, these animals, these plants, this technology and these creatures is beyond my expectations.
I just left go myself into the fantasy and really enjoyed the love story around the film which is actually one of the best parts of it. This one deserve 2 thumbs up !!!

I've gone twice to see this movie, once in 3D and once in IMAX 3D. This movie should be seen in 3D! Don't spend the extra money for IMAX unless you actually get a real IMAX screen with larger dimensions. Pandora is amazingly thought out to the smallest detail. The creatures that inhabit Pandora look incredibly real.

My husband NEVER wants to go to the movie theater. I talked him into for this one, and neither one of us were disappointed. We were both riveted from the beginning to the end. The characters were wonderful, the special effects spectacular and the overall experience was a magnificent journey!! I can't wait to see it again!
