I would review this movie EXCEPT the theatre that I pre-bought tickets hours beforehand did not have a seat for me and my family to sit in. They oversold the movie leaving many of us to either change our movie OR leave entirely. This is totally unacceptable to me, even if it was New Year's Eve. Maybe someday I might be able to see this movie before it leaves theatres.

This movie was not at all what I expected. In the beginning it moved very slow and my husband and I had a tough time getting into it. George Clooney did an excellent job, but I've seen him better films. I just feel there wasn't enough action and not really that much comedy.

Based on the trailers, we expected a comedy. What a shock when it turned out to be a really wrenching depiction of a man so walled off from personal relationships that his real feeling of being home was when he was flying. Although my first reaction was that the film was depressing, on further review I thought it thoughtfully depicted the Clooney character's return from his alienation, not in a sweeping "happy ending", but in several scenes reflecting growth into his own possibilities with his family, his profession, and his personal life. A really good movie, actually better than I expected.

So the movie might be about someone who fires people and that isn't a very uplifting subject but, George Clooney is excellent, the overall film is well written and entertaining, and I left the movie theater feeling really good. It's so nice to see movies that aren't cliche.. and sappy. This is definitely an Oscar worthy film with George Clooney a definite in my book for atleast a nomination.

As an aging, jaded road warrior myself, I was delighted with what this movie delivered. This is what Hollywood is supposed to give us - great performances, a real story, and character development. I was really looking forward to this movie and was not disappointed. Excellent writing,excellent acting.
I agree with another reviewer who noted, although this show has some great comedy, overall it is serious stuff, dealing with cynicism, loneliness, joblessness, ageing, relationships.

Clooney was at his best in this movie. It is not a comedy, but rather shows the current trend in down sizing, the "it's a rotten job, but someone has to do it." This will appeal to many business men and women who have liasions and collect hotel cards, credit cards, air miles, car incentives, etc. I travel quite extensively for pleasure and can appreciate the quality of service at the airport, hotel, and cabs shown in this movie. Entertaining, but not the comedy I expected.

i saw this movie right after "It's Complicated" which was extraordinary and very funny - lots of belly laughs. So the more serious toned "Up in the Air" was a bit of a downer - particularly seeing it during the extremely difficult economic times we are experiencing in our country. Being a frequent flier on American Airlines and a member of both Hilton hotel and Hertz rental car programs, I can say the mechanics of a road warrior's life are pretty accurately portrayed. Clooney does a credible job, but I wouldn't classify it as award winning.

While I did enjoy this movie, I found it to be a bit depressing. Especially the ending. As someone who's been thru downsizing twice, that part was accurate and hit it's point. I just didn't want to have to relive those times in my life. Clooney was good, as he always is. The chemistry between him and his co-stars was wonderful. It's just the subject matter -- not an uplifiting movie.

My husband couldn't decide if this is a comedy or a tragedy. He wanted "another chapter." It leaves you "up in the air," but isn't that life? The film explores "living in the moment" vs. commitment. Am a 1.5 million mile man myself w a Hertz #1 club, deck of hotel cards etc so was predisposed to like this movie. The ads set you up for a comedy and that is misleading. It is not a comedy but you don't hold that against anyone at the end because both the script and the acting were terrific. The laughs really circled around Anna Kendrick's character. She did a great job. As did Vera Farmiga. Clooney is a true star. He's a wonderful comedy actor who should get Oscar consideration for this serious role. All in all, Hollywood delivered. I went to see a movie and got a good script, good acting, an ending I didn't expect and didn't need 3d glasses. An old fashioned good movie

This movie was excellent and the actors and actresses were top notch. George Clooney brought his A game. The movie was engrossing and emotional as at times it made you laugh and at other times cry. I've been in the situation of having to lay people off as well as being laid off myself. The movie was very true to life and thought provoking. It made you think about what's important in life...people, relationships, and family. Loved the movie and will see again. I definitely want the CD when available.

It's not often that we get to enjoy a movie that is intelligent, thoughtful, relevant to today's issues, and at the same time, warm, charming and very funny. It helps to have George Clooney in the lead as a man who spends his professional life "Up in the Air", happily traveling to the extent that he has no personal ties to clutter is life. He lives for his frequent flier miles, but circumstances arise that change all of that and it is wonderful to see how he and those around him react.

Clooney is good but the star of the movie was his 4th grade looking costar Anna Kendrick. She nailed her part. Timing of the release was either planned or unfortunate with the jobless rate exceeding 10 percent. Save your money and give it to helping someone jobless and homeless and watch this on DVD. Loved the fact that it appeared to be a lovey-dovey movie and ended up not being so with many unpredictable twists. If you're a sap who likes their soppy and happy Hollywood endings...sorry. That's the best part of this movie.

The dialogue and acting is terrific. One very big surprise in the movie really knocks you for a loop. This is enuff to recommend the movie. I'm sure the best ending for the movie ended up on the cutting room floor as the one they decided on for the movie left you feeling the movie was unfinished.

Wait to rent it. Not great. Clooney is very charming, you spend most of the film wondering why a guy with so much going for him is living such a loser life.

Funny yet realistic, very well acted, not so predictable, good dialogue. George is so handsome. I will see it again. My old favorite was "Big Night", so I don't switch allegiances that easily.

Although the acting was impressive, the trailer was entirely misleading. It masquarades as a comedy, but I left the theater feeling depressed. As a matter of fact, one of the women in the audience was in tears. If you like happy endings, just skip this one.
