We're not trekkies by any stretch of the imagination, but even a casual fan of the 'Star Trek' saga will enjoy this 'prequel' storyline.
The action is great and definitely enhanced by the IMAX experience.
The new actors capture the personalities of their already famous characters so well its eerie!!
All in all, great fun: A must see for fans!!

The movie itself was great! It was the first I have ever seen at the IMAX....and that was totally cool. The advertising (not previews) was obnoxious. Even with this, plus the movie run time, I was so enthralled that it was well worth it! I highly advise everyone to see Star Trek, the IMAX Experience!

This was a great example of what a successful remake should look like. I felt like I was a kid again spending satuday morning with Capt Kirk and the gang and felt like they choose well in actors and story line. I would recommend this to Star Trek fans and those who fondly remember the original TV series from their childhood.

This was the best Star Trek movie. It was fabulous. We were totally entertained the whole 2 hours and 6 minutes. I would recommend it to anyone but especially Star Trek fans. Excellent movie! Really enjoyed the characters and special effects - especially in IMAX.
I normally do not go out to see movies, since we have a nice home theater set-up, but a friend recommended it in IMAX. Would highly recommend seeing it on the B-I-G screen!

I have to agree with the previous reviewers, this is the best Star Trek Movie EVER!! I rarely give a movie 5 stars, but this movie just blew me away. I saw it in IMAX format and was pleasanly surprised with how well this movie was put together. It's full of action, drama, and fun. I think new fans and old with throughly enjoy seeing this film. I especially liked the references that were made from the original series. I'm a huge fan of Star Trek now and I recently purchased the original series (season one) on Blu-Ray and it's just amazaing how they added new backgrounds and special effects to each show. It's like watching them for the first time again. I would highly recommmend you see at the IMAX before it goes away in TWO weeks.

I'm not one to pay the extra to see a movie at IMAX but being a space movie I thought it would be well worth it. I guessed right. This was a GREAT movie. They did a great job with the characters and it kept you on the edge wondering what might happen next. No matter if you see this in IMAX or a regular screening, it is a must see at the theatre for its full effect. Money well spent. I'll go see it again real soon.

I liked how they incorporated some of the old "Dr. McCoy-isms". An excellent mix of drama and comedy. Not many movies that I would see more than once at the theater but this is definitely one of them!

I don't see what was so amazing about it. I like it. It was definitely a good movie in that it has some interesting ideas, a good plot with few holes, convincing acting, but I didn't see what makes it an A movie. Maybe this is because I have no previous experience with Star Trek and so, if I had, I might further appreciate what was accomplished in this film, how this may have stayed true to the story and presented itself as a more than worthy prequel. Nonetheless, It is a fun ride that is different from the typical Hollywood action movie in good ways. I recommend it, and especially in IMAX.

This film is visually stunning. The photography, special effects and editing are amazing. It was interesting to learn Kirk's background (the premise of the plot). There were discrepancies in the story that lead me to believe it is a setup for a sequel (yet another!). But, if they continue to be this good, keep bringing on the sequels.
The only problem was the theatre. They showed the film at deafening audio levels. While I am sure they planned to increase the drama with the audio volume, the ear-splitting rock concert sound levels actually interfered with my ability to concentrate on the whole film experience. The audio and video need to work as a unit. In this case one far outweighed the other, causing a worrysome imbalance.

From the obvious to the subtle, trekkies will find lots of references to star trek lore, great insights on how beloved characters came to be, and a few surprises. While the development of the villain is probably sitting on some cutting room floor, I found that easy to overlook. It's a refreshing return to the old characters for trekkies who long for the days before the federation became so pc.

I was very impressed by this Star Trek even though I am not a rabid fan. It did refresh the memories I have of why I used to love the series so much. Having grown up watching the original Star Trek, I went in with expectations. What i saw was beyond belief, having followed all the trek incarnations on TV and Movies, this has to be the greatest interpretation of Gene Roddenberry's work.The characters were true to form, Spock was played the way I always thought he would be,more human, less robotic.If you are a fan of Star Trek i beg you to go see this FILM. I am not a huge Star Trek fan over the years but this movie was fantastic. Aside from the great special effects, the IMAX experience and a part by Leonard Nemoy, I thought the way the young actors caught the speach patterns, manerisms and humor of the original cast was phenomenal. I would recommend it to anyone who just wanted to see a great movie. I would even see it again.

You must see this on the IMAX. As soon as the movie started, the screen was so big, the theater was so dark and the sound was amazing. I thought I was in space.
The movie itself is so fun and entertaining. Everyone knows who Kirk and Spock are, but it's like seeing them for the first time again! Go see this film and go see it on the IMAX. Treat yourself! You deserve it.

Okay. If you are Star Trek fan, or a Special Effects fan, you have to see this movie in the theater. Otherwise, wait for the DVD/BD on your large flat screen TV.
And do NOT waste your exgra $5 on IMAX. Not enough of a difference to appreciate it on IMAX vs. the regular theater screen. It was disappointing.

I love this movie and would see it in a cardboard box. I liked watching it on the Feinstein IMAX screen in Providence, RI, but I would have liked the sound to be louder and to have the full screen picture instead of the letterbox (scope) presentation. I would still make the trip to see it again at Feinstein, but hopefully they will turn the sound up.

WTH.... Spock in a romantic relationship?? I could put up with the over-acting since that is part of Star Trek but when Spock is making out in the transporter room I gagged. Movie is a disappointment.
