Sherlock Holmes had a deliciously dark feel without taking it too far. The cast was well chosen and the director did a great job.

I very much liked the relationship between Holmes and Watson. Holmes' attitude is given some updated humor without taking away from the period. Guy Richie's signature is all over this so that will explain the humor. My only complaint is that I find digital films hard to watch.
Its well worth the ticket price: acting, directing, writing, costumes, sets-all award worthy.

I only have vague memories of the Sherlock Holmes books (Holmes is a Kung Fu Master?) but this adaptation was very fun and entertaining.
All the acting was wonderful (the villain was especially haunting). The costumes (I want the female lead's dress) were lovely. The story was paced well, with drama, humour, and loads of action. I loved the supernatural/occult twist - excellent visuals on how a scary cult operates.
And of course... the mystery. Some were easy to solve as an audience member, and others were trickier - but the unfolding action lead me begging to know what would happen next.
Seeds of a sequel were planted throughout the movie (and not just hastily added at the end as an afterthought).
I look forward to more!

Definitely the best movie I saw in 2009 :)
Besides the cleverly written dialogues, it has amazing picture with so much details in production. I also enjoyed the beautiful wardrobes!
This is one of those movie you would want to own so you can watch many times. And I am sure I will always find something new..!!
Best Sherlock Holmes and Watson ever! Guy Ritchie rocks.... =)

I saw this movie on its release day. It was entertaining enough but not worth the price of going out to the theater. I defintely could have waited for it to come out on DVD or OnDemand. If there's a sequel, I will watch it at home.

Clever enough. Good sequences. Elusive plot at times. Felt wary and skeptical at first about the dark magic, but it was all resolved by the end with logic and reason which I found quite satisfying. Robert Downey Jr. has yet to disappoint me. Advice: don't sit too close.

Pretty good for the action but a bit lenghty for the story that it was trying to tell. Also, a little predictable, and while clever, most of Mr. Holmes' deductions were somewhat obvious. All said and done a good movie not a waste of time or money

Robert Downey Jr at his best and Jude Law ... perhaps one of his best too. Great fun from start to finish and I love that they hint at a sequel at the end. RDJr could be sitting pretty on top of two franchises: Iron Man and Sherlock Holmes). Fine with me .. can't get enough of him. He's brilliant in everything he does!

the effects in the movie were good, liked the plot, but the sorcery turned our whole family off. Because of that, we wouldn't recommend seeing it. If we had known there was sorcery, we wouldn't have gone to see it. The only reason we didn't leave once the sorcery was introduced was we knew that Sherlock was wanting to triumph over it.

My family enjoyed this moive very much. Congratulations to Warner Bros. Studio and the writers, directors, and produces, for creating a very entertaining movie that was without any bad language. Honestly, while leaving the movie theater I think that was the comment I heard most people saying. I will be keeping an ear open for the sequel.

The movie starts off with action right from the beginning and then builds to an exciting conclusion which neatly wraps up all the intrigue and mystery in the plot. Sherlock Holmes seems to have almost mythical powers of deduction and to keep from being bored he challenges himself with strange experiments which though might seem odd, prove to be useful in the end. Dr. Watson is a funny sidekick and the interactions between him and Holmes provide comedic twists to the movie.

Enjoyable movie. Good action and acting. If you are expecting the Sherlock Holmes characters from the book, you'll be a little disappointed. Holmes and Watson's characters in the movie bear little resemblance to the book's characters. But it was still a good movie.

I thought this was a really good movie. I do think there were some parts of the movie that moved slowly and could have been better written to transition better into the action scenes. The humor of the characters I think could have been a little more developed. Overall I like the movie and hope for a sequel.

This film was very exciting, never a dull moment. The twists and turns kept me interested. I especially enjoyed Watson's character in this version of Sherlock Holmes. Guy Ritchie did a great job directing this film. I think most fans of Sherlock Holmes will find it entertaining.

Just went and seen this movie. I thought it was pretty good. Special effects was pretty good, good fighting scenes. It was over 2 hrs long. It did drag in scene or two, but overall it was a pretty good movie. I think if they make another it will be better. I think they could have had Sherlock do better on the reasing and logic parts.

I went to see the movie knowing the plot sort of sucked because of all the mixed reviews, so I really appreciated Guy Ritchie's stylized version of old London with its costumes and grittiness along with the funny rapport between Law and Downey. It's a good movie, but don't expect to blown away by any one thing.

It's about time Hollywood put out a movie that is purely entertaining and meant for all to have a good time! I was not embarrassed to watch this movie with my son, and he as well as myself and husband were thoroughly entertained for the 2 hours! I have read almost all of the original Sherlock Holmes stories, a fan of Basil Rathbone, and was totally enamored with R. Downeys portrayal as well as the other actors! Even if you are a Holmes purist, the adaptation is just plain fun and entertaining! The evil one was truly evil, too! What fun! Only, the mumbling could have been improved to not so much mumbling. Go, enjoy the movie and have alot of fun! It is worth the money we paid to go see it!
